BMW is daylight robbery even here in the US! I rode the baby GS when it came out and, like many reviewers, stalled it many times and found it lacking the low end grunt too, apart from being very under-powered. Having recently ridden the KTM, I can say the KTM is more of a international motorcycle when it comes to power and features. As for riding in the dirt, you guys should do some training esp for dual purpose or big adventure bikes- where they will tell you that upright is not how you stand on adv bikes. You should always have knees bent, elbows bent, both not locked, slightly hunched over the handlebars (attack position)...though I do enjoy just standing upright (relaxing from sitting down) on a Himalayan, the right way to tackle trails is in attack position. That's how I can make even my FZ09 work on trails pretty well actually! ;) Another good video though- kudos!
Hi. I did hit the trail after shooting this video and yeah, I was in a slight attack mode most of the time. If was my first time out on a trail. Thanks Abhinav BMW or KTM all doubts cleared and thank you again for inviting Aditya who was really honest about his BMW and the comparison of both the bikes.
Dear @Abhinav and @Aditya, came here after i saw a link of this video in recommendations, and dare i say, this is one good comparison video that kept me hooked till the very end. This kind of comparison is something i've never seen in any of the indian auto mag versions and certainly not by any of the mainstream indian vloggers till date. This video answered many of the questions that was lingering in my mind regarding these two bikes, big shoutout for that. The way Aditya spoke about the minutiae of the bikes' personas speaks volumes about his eye for detail and passion for motorcycling, not to mention his excellent command of the language(And yours as well, good sir). Dare i say, if this guy writes a book, i'm gonna buy and read it! I would love to see you guys do such honest comparison videos of other bikes as well given the chance, and would certainly love to see Aditya having his own channel here. Cheers, ride hard, ride safe.
Really awesome and detailed comparison about each and every aspect of mode of riding which can be done on these two bikes. I must have seen this 3-4 times. Best part is you both are experienced enough to talk about it. Wish you guys can make vlog on 2020 310 gs. Thanks again for your efforts.
Excellent comparison! I'm 55 and getting my first bike and battling between these two bikes. I'm 6'2 and 240 lbs and haven't even been seated either, but according to reviews, KTM could be a bit cramped while on BMW the softness of the front suspension makes me wonder. Anyway waiting for the spring to try them out - BMW sure is a looker and in the vid nicely equipped. Again, very good comparison, thanks!

Guys, that was a really good review. I agree, it was unbiased and it really does make a difference that Adiatya has had his GS for a year. Perhaps a follow up with some thoughts about the bikes on modest off road riding, and some more chat about the controls and dash/ instrument layout and info. Well done; you really did add useful information to the other reviews on The Tube. Thanks!
One of my friends just bought a pre owned GS310 and the first thing he did was modify the headlights. He got a pair of dual beam led lights and it was fairly easy to install them. He also changed the horn to trumpet horns from Bosch. So i dont think fiddling with the electronics is troublesome on this bike. I myself would go for the KTM owing to its ownership costs and a full set of features.

Great review buy the GS owner. Real time experience is really good, no nonsense absolutely great. His sort of views is what I like. Real riders don't cheat. Better than fake interviews by auto journalists. Kudos..👏👏 If I buy it will be the BMW, has better snob value as well. 😊
Suspension bottoms out on the ktms because often we don't manage our weight well on the bike. I've met folks who've taken 600rr cbrs to ladhak with road tires without complaining. Any bike can be taken off road or on touring, it's just the extent of performance and the skill of the rider that varies. I remember watching a video with a 390adventure and an rc390 going off road onto a mild trail with rocks and grooves without much issues.
@@abhinavbhatt try starting from mountain bikes first. They only have a front suspension that to max of about 32mm stanchion and 100mm travel and I guarantee once you figure out weight transfer the ktm will feel like a toy off road. I've taken my 650 versys with the stock dunlops offroad and even crossed small rocks and boulders just because of effective weight transfer. The gs 310 is an okay bike, so are its bigger siblings. Would much rather prefer a vstrom or tiger which are cheaper, easier to fix and overall less finicky. Less is more when going off road.
I found your bike to be really comfortable, its all about your perspective and comfort. Different people with different height and weight will have a different opinion on ergonomics. A very informative video for those in dilemma. Also, that kind of maintenance for a bike thats shares its engine with apache is not justified imo.
I agree on the cost of ownership part. BMW needs to get off the high horse and act sensibly if they want these bikes to move off the showrooms in India.
Agreed! i would highlight that the engine block is the same, shims, valves, piston and other parts are different, they do share parts but all arent the same. Even the service aspects are a lot more stringent. Owners like me always make it a pain in the a** for the service guys as we seek perfection, Guys at Lyutens and Kun are indeed supportive.
I have ridden the G310 GS. It has no low and mid range grunt what so ever. Surprising that he finds the torque delivery of the BMW more usable in the low and mid range.
@@abhinavbhatt Yeah that definitely is there. Just a sprocket change can fix it though. Very stupid of KTM to provide the adv with the same gearing as the nakeds.
Feel like there is a bias here, just sharing my thoughts here. 1. He himself has handle bar risers on his bike, add that to the KTM, it will be equally comfortable for saddling. 2. the shorter wheelbase is an advantage for manouvering the bike specially considering the breakover angle. shorter wheelbase fairs better in that term. 3. agreed about the footpeg and tank position but again, another thing which can be rectified by 2 small mods. (footpeg mods by carbon racing + Tank pad grips) . I had the opportunity to ride a BMW 310 GS for a month, took it offroading as well. it's an underpowered engine on a great chassis with major scope of improvement all around despite the new visual updates. Lastly, you can source the adjustable cartridges for the WP Apex suspension on the ktm from various sources in India meaning you can add adjustability to your front suspension someday, goodluck sourcing something like that for the BMW. Most people, specially the ones who bought the 1st gen 310GS regret their purchase (compared to 390) and felt betrayed by BMW due to the major price drop.
Well i just bought my GS in the 30th Septembre , it is due to arrive in January... long time it seams, so i keep watching some videos and realize BMW fixed some issues like the full led headlights, and electronic accelerator. Mine comes with 5 years warranty and 3 years full service with it. Nice video

Hi Martin! it's from ZANA, a manufacturer based out of Delhi, India. It costed around INR 2700 ~ 27 Pounds back in 2019. Presently, I guess it retails at INR 3000 ~ 30 Pounds. I use kinda semi-rigid saddle bags from an Indian brand "Rynox" Model: Nomad v2. I have no complains, they have served exceptionally well.
The ktm adventure is just a half-baked afterthought that's OK doing everything but not good at anything in particular! The pricing is what makes this bike good value! Also, I'm sure the tvs showroom would service the bmw for Rs. 1500!😂
Bang on review. All favours the BMW until we get into the costs of the parts and after sales support. Overall, KTM to me still is a winner. It does little bit of everything, just perfect for Indian roads. However I would have loved this to don a GT kind of body than an Adventure bike's. Would have saved it from negative feedback.
Great video, pls tell me what is the product name of those risers* as well as the windshield*. I expected you will have a links in description. Please tell me, inform me of those two products, would love to install them on my motorcycle. Thank you in advance.
What an honest review! I have the bmw, and yes its pretty confortable! I placed Oxford heated grips and led auxiliar lights from China for 50€. The only thing i dont like about the bike is the engine on high rpm, because its very "torquy" i'm thinking of changing the front sproklet to one with one more teeth to reduce its rpm's at high speeds
Nice content ! Up till now I just thought the BMW was overpriced, this shined some light on the GS. I am now convinced that riding ergonomics are better on the GS. Although I still feel both of these are road bikes and less tourers but then, these are the only premium bikes in this segment. Oh and yes I also like the Hero X Pulse which is not a direct competitor to this bikes.
If someone just wants to fo trails, the XPulse with the rally kit will run circles around these two bikes. But if you want to an overall bike, has to be one of these two.
Seeing this vid only now…a very comprehensive one from the GS owner…I am planning to buy it sometime. It would have been very nice if details of after market parts like crash guard, wind shield etc…where to get them? Is it available online?
Am glad there's a full English review on this so a guy like could understand. Most g310gs review from India usually only the video title is in English😃. Anyways, great in-depth review, I'm impressed after a year of riding without crash bar that bike is still in mint condition.

Great comparison. I just purchased a new 2022 KTM Adventure 390 and love it. I am impressed with this bike and would easily buy it again over the BMW. I considered the GS310, but after reading all the review's, and doing much research, the KTM is a better all-around bike in my opinion.
Bro himalayan vs dominar which bike engine is more reliable. For long term. Please reply Which one is easy to maintain. Planning to buy one please prefer me. I am planning to buy one but I got very confused. No off-road. only city and hilly terrains.
This guys is really good and so honest review…GS is in my mind too..How good is the pillion comfort in Adv 390 considering it’s acceleration..? I tour with pillion …
About the KTM rear monoshock rebound. I saw this trend start from the 3rd batches of the 2017 KTMs. Almost every bike bought after September had a very soft rebound. Now at first I thought that was a faulty suspension, but I saw this trend continue. Now all my KTMs had very stiff rebound and even preload (because I bought them before this trend), so far that I run my Interceptor's reload at 1 step below Max.
Simply awesome comparison guy's. I had g310gs but sold very quickly after realizing that one should never compromise on power to weight ratio or in other words, never buy similar bike in lower cc, I bought after owning tiger for 2 and half year's.
Very knowledgeable and insightful, that guy really knows these motorcycles quite well. Best review comparison I’ve seen so far. He pointed out the highs and lows of each bike perfectly. I was finding this in my suggested queue however did not click on it, that is, until today. And I am glad that I did. Aditya (with his G310GS) is a pocket-rocket a.f.a. his ownership feedback is concerned. Don't think there is a more candid review (and comparison with ADV 390) anywhere in the net yet. Thanks for catching hold of him, dear Abhinav, and of course for asking him all the right questions. Also, does Aditya have a YT channel?
What about the heating issue and vibrations? I felt it on the test ride bike. And I must say you guys are really honest nd very informative. Loved the review really. Thank u.
I can't speak about the BMW but the KTM does not heat up at all. I do feel annoyinng vibrations at the pegs though. Slight on the bars and mirrors too.
Few questions.. I hope you answer.! 1) How much is the suspension travel of both the bikes.? 2) Does GS's suspension bottoms out.? 3) What can we do to avoid KTM's suspension bottoming out.?
BMW GS310 - 180 mm travel at the front, KTM has 177 mm. The GS's suspension does not bottom out. You can modulate your body's position to not load the front suspension while it lands hard.
That guy can also start a UA-cam channel... He's pretty good in explaining 🔥🔥

@@rahuldasyam9070 You didn't understand the comment Dodo.
G310s no good also
You guys really gave me a deep perspective of both the machines...
Best review so far about these two beast definitely needed to hear this from someone experienced great job can't wait to own one of em
Really awesome and informative comparison, thank you! Great video!
This is more informative compared to most videos on these bikes.
Man he seems so much like you when talking about bikes to the camera. Just a different texture of voice but damn the way he speaks is so much AB.
Gr8 comparison ..almost all the points covered in detail
What an honest review! I have the bmw, and yes its pretty confortable! I placed Oxford heated grips and led auxiliar lights from China for 50€. The only thing i dont like about the bike is the engine on high rpm, because its very "torquy" i'm thinking of changing the front sproklet to one with one more teeth to reduce its rpm's at high speeds
You will loose the low end grunt on this..

Hahaha
Thank you Aditya. Thats a very sharp eye (or feel) for detail. Something a rider should develop after years of riding. 👍👍👍👍
@@abhinavbhatt Agreed 👍
Nice review, which camera you were using in this video?
GoPro Hero 7.
Thank you so much for giving a very brief idea of these two beauty 😊
Seeing this vid only now…a very comprehensive one from the GS owner…I am planning to buy it sometime. It would have been very nice if details of after market parts like crash guard, wind shield etc…where to get them? Is it available online?
Am glad there's a full English review on this so a guy like could understand. Most g310gs review from India usually only the video title is in English😃. Anyways, great in-depth review, I'm impressed after a year of riding without crash bar that bike is still in mint condition.
Do you want to see a motorcycle that can possibly F up both these bikes and is made in India? Head over to my Instagram page now: instagram.com/p/B-PQVOQAZMa/
this is a great review! best ive seen so far with details and sharing honest experiences.
hope you would keep this up guys!
Thanks
Great comparison. I just purchased a new 2022 KTM Adventure 390 and love it. I am impressed with this bike and would easily buy it again over the BMW. I considered the GS310, but after reading all the review's, and doing much research, the KTM is a better all-around bike in my opinion.
@Abhinav , either you should lower your volume or come in front of cam, as your voice sounds interrupting while presenter was speaking.
Bro himalayan vs dominar which bike engine is more reliable. For long term. Please reply
Which one is easy to maintain.
Planning to buy one please prefer me.
I am planning to buy one but I got very confused.
No off-road. only city and hilly terrains.
I haven't ridden either extensively so I wouldn't be the right person to ask. However, I do think the Dominar would be a better pick.
This guys is really good and so honest review…GS is in my mind too..How good is the pillion comfort in Adv 390 considering it’s acceleration..? I tour with pillion …
Hi abhinav which would you recommend in 2023 ktm 390, 310gs or himalyan 452.
Why did you sell the Tiger?
Abhinav Bhatt tiger abhi zinda hai 😇
Hahaha. Nice. I assumed you sold it. It is such a lovely bike, the Tiger. Once the lockdown ends, I think about time I should show mine too ✌
I'm just in awe of you guys English
Wait!
This was in English?
It's a language, what's there to awe about?
@@grimmywizard they have a good vocabulary
Great Analysis Guys, many thanks!
awesome comparison!!!!
Thanks, Ashwin.
Very impressive review. Your English is impeccable.
Very knowledgeable and insightful, that guy really knows these motorcycles quite well. Best review comparison I’ve seen so far. He pointed out the highs and lows of each bike perfectly. If that’s you’re friend I highly recommend you have him review bikes with you. He’s one of the best reviewers I’ve seen yet hands down. Great video sir really liked the honest thoughts and hello from the USA. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I love both bikes! The 310GS in Canada is lower price by quite a lot.
They've corrected the price in India too now. It undercuts the KTM by a small margin.
u got a perfect partner for making videos man. He is just awesome and gotta your kinda explaining style. Thanks for video
Himalayan or gs310 for adventure touring and weekend rides??
8:25 - Triumph Tiger left the chat. Just wondering how much would wear and tear parts such as brake pads, chain sprocket cost for BMW G310 GS.
A lot of the viewers have insisted that its high time i should start making videos, maybe i can make use of this quarantine period
Breakpads (front: Brembo 2800 rear i got EBC HH this time for about 3K Note: company gives organic pads from bybre for 1400) chain set with sprocket is 5.5K other parts like air filter and all are around 500 or less
Cool details for each motorcycles. I would really want to know what mic are you using to record this video. Since both your voices are pretty clear compared to the traffic at the background. Thanks
shot on abhinav's gopro
Good Video bro, but I felt a completely different experience, thank you and keep the good going bro.
Great video brother ❤️👌👌👌
Can't get more information than this video anywhere else. Superb ❤️👌👌👌
A Perfect Comparo Man. What a review. Love your vlogs bro. ❤👏🏼👍🏾
Thanks
The content we need but don't deserve.
Thanks for this! Honesty indeed goes a LONG way!
Hi. Not yet. But he might start soon.
Every thing is ok with gs310...but what is service cost of bmw??can you share it?? Ok got the answer from the later part..
Hy Abhinav sir I'm bit confused what to take whether the gs 310 or ktm adv 390 what do you prefer?
What about the heating issue and vibrations? I felt it on the test ride bike.
And I must say you guys are really honest nd very informative. Loved the review really. Thank u.
I can't speak about the BMW but the KTM does not heat up at all. I do feel annoyinng vibrations at the pegs though. Slight on the bars and mirrors too.
This is Why you should listen to the owners 🔥
I always say this: Nobody knows the bike better than owners. I don't trust reviewers. Only and only owners.
@@abhinavbhatt thats is also the reason why i have subscribed you and watch your content RELIGIOUSLY 😬
🙏
Very Detailed Explanation, great going Sir...
Pure content!!!!
