Any video that tells me to enjoy a coffee... well that’s the video for me.
haha
Love all your curriculum review videos. They are so helpful in prepping for the homeschool convention, such as planning any questions I may have or just which tables I want to hit. When cramming so much into just a couple days it really helps to narrow down the search ahead of time. Thanks for making all these videos!!!
I am so glad I found you! I am new to homeschooling. I have been learning and researching curriculum options like crazy and thinking in circles about it. This is the first (won't be the last) video I have watched through of yours. It has helped me find a way to organize my thoughts. Thank you!
Thank you for taking the time to share this with us! You’re AWEsome!!
This was very very helpful! I love how you give the most important key points in a concise manner. I am going to a convention this weekend but this helps narrow down possibilities and make the experience less overwhelming. Now I can go straight to the curriculum counters I'm interested in and take a closer look, with already a very good idea what it's about from a objective perspective! Thank you!
Your videos are so informational and great! From a first timer homeschool mom, thank you! You've helped me find my math and now science curriculum!
I just want to say thank you for making these videos. This is my first year Homeschooling our preschooler, but I'm a planner, so I'm thinking ahead. These videos are great to share with my husband since he really wants to be involved!
That's awesome! I'm so glad!
I've watched your math ... an many other videos on curriculum you post...you help make my choices easy an more clear being able to see the big picture..big thank you for your time
What a HUGE help you are in homeschool subject!!! My husband and I have decided to homeschool our 2 elementary level kids starting next school year. However, when I started to research the whole thing, I realized I have bitten more than I can swallow(((( I do work full time from home and was feeling down with so much confusion regarding this. Then I ran into your channel and these AMAZING & HELPFUL reviews. THANK YOU SO MUCH for these!!!! I am much more confident now and feel that I can do this.
These videos have helped me so much! I love how you discuss these. Thank you!
You'll never know how helpful these videos are!
I'm really liking the look and feel of Science Shepherds! Thank you, I had not heard of this curriculum!
Shew!! Thank you SO much for this amazing comparison!!! I really appreciate your research!
I'm so glad I found your channel! Your videos are great; thank you!!
So happy I found this video! You have helped me narrow down my few to really dive into and look at for our family!
We love Science Shepherd! This will be our second year using this curriculum. We love that it’s short, to the point, and very thorough.
Thank you for the comments, Andrea!
It’s def on the list after this review for us
We used it too, and we loved it!! My son does not like to write a lot so this worked out beautifully. I have heard him many times discussing with his brothers what he learnt.
Is there a new video for each daily workbook lesson or is it just one video per week and then you answer questions each day from the video you watched?
@@thewordrules each daily lesson has a new video.
I love that you do these curriculum reviews! I've been trying to find a good fit for me and my daughter!
Thank you! This is all encouraging and exciting information. My husband and I are going to homeschool our children and this video helped us narrow down our search a little. Awesome job!
Hooray for this video! thank you for reviewing elemental (my top choice this year)! Nice to get to see a flip through.
Great comparison video! We have been learning with Sassafras Science and my kids love it soo much! Begging to keep going because they were getting so engaged in the story. Making science super fun!
So excited for this video!!! Thank you Rebecca!
you're welcome! It was so fun to make!
I love your curricula comparisons! Thank you!
Great video. I love your style. You make me want to keep watching.
Wow...now this...is THE video to watch if anyone is researching curriculum. I hope Abeka and TGATB and the others gave you a chance to review their other subjects after this. This video helped me narrow down my choices soooo much. And as a beginner homeschool mom, this is the perfect video to watch so I don't feel overwhelmed with all the choices.
Love that you do this! We’re on our journey of figuring out if we are jumping into homeschool or not and the curriculum choices available to support us. It also really helps that you mention if they are Christian based or not.
I would love to see a top homeschool planners review!
Yessssss!!!
Pretty please
Yes! I can never decide which one to go with, there's so many out there.
I love funschooling! So glad you showed it! :D
I so needed this video. Thank you!
Choosing what is sustainable for your lifestyle is such a good reminder! I love the look of Berean Builders and my son would love the experiments but I also have two four year olds and a three year old. I definitely feel like I would end up putting it off over and over. For that reason Science Sheppard appeals to me because he would still be watching experiments but I wouldn't be responsible for gathering items and conducting them! I'm so appreciative of these videos!
Next year we're using Elemental Science's lapbooking curriculum. It cost me $18.50 to receive the download for all the unit studies that we're doing next year.
We're doing the Lapbooking through Biology bundle which covers human anatomy, plants, animals, and habitats and the Lapbooking through Rocks and Fossils. It is a 4-day a week schedule, though you can adapt it to 2 days a week and the books that you get can either be procured from your library, or you can buy them yourself. I have found that the books are very inexpensive. They have a schedule for younger and older students.
My kids helped me pick this out this year and are super excited to do this. I highly recommend this to any family who's children are hands on learners as they will be building their own lapbooks.
The Hudsons are a great homeschooling family. I have had the pleasure of meeting them and spending time with them.
I have never really found a science we loved. I have tried several you mentioned in the video. Next year, we are using Masterbooks and it looks to be exactly what we were searching for. We are so excited!
That's great and totally my goal: if not to help choose curriculum, then to help validate your decision ;) haha
Your comparison videos are super helpful! Love this! I definitely learned about some new science curriculum here that I'm interested in trying. The sassafras one looks really neat! Definitely looking forward to your Socials video!
Great review! We have life for beginners from Master books and my girls love it. Even though it's for K through 2, I got it for my second and third graders who are good readers so they can do it independently. The lessons go quickly which is nice, because the girls are so active and don't want to sit still for long periods of time. Highly recommend Master books! Thanks for sharing
I’m on the hunt for a curriculum this year. Thank you for doing this video. It was so helpful. Some of these companies I have not heard of yet.
Greatly appreciated! Thank you!
I really need to see a noeo review! And also the good and the beautiful, abeka, apologia... Goodness! You just need a part two :)
I agree. I would love to see these as well. I was not able to attend the homeschool convention this year.
We love Noeo Science. This is our 2nd year using them. I actually have a video about it in my channel.
Is she still making videos? I can 't find any recent ones...
The Good and the Beautiful has excellent science units. They are not expensive and they are coming out with new ones all the time. My 5,11, and 12 year old were all able to do Space Science together and loved it! We're now moving on to Marine Biology. We can't wait.
She will not mention the good and the Beautiful, her hate is real towards them.
Mahagony1985 why?
@@dominique573n9 this lady was all for the good and the Beautiful curriculum and then she just started to say things to discourage people all because she wanted to start her own curriculum to sell.
@@dominique573n9 she tried to make it seem that she couldn't use it because the lady who started it is a Mormon although the curriculum has nothing to do with Mormonism at all she was just trying to be underhanded because are entitled their personal their personal lives outside of their business.
Mahagony1985 wow... that’s too bad.. I don’t like judgement based on religion.. as Christians we are taught to be kind and love and respect everyone. I was just watching her video about it and it didn’t make much sense to me. I have looked into the Good and the beautiful just ordered the language arts writing and math curriculum from them and the books are not based on that at all!!!! So she is pretty much saying bc the creator is LDS she will no longer use it?! That’s such a terrible excuse. What ever happened with her coming out with her own curriculum??
Real Science 4 Kids does have upper level available. I'm excited to check it out, thanks so much!
This was so helpful! Thank you!
This was SO helpful! Thank you and God bless you!
Thanks so much for this review!! We have been leaning towards Science Shepard, so I was pleased that this was included. I'm wondering something though, because so many of the programs are recommended for a broad grade range. Obviously your not going to do the same course multiple times for multiple grades. So my question is which company offers more of a grade specific program that you can continue with for consecutive years. My concern is that you choose a great curriculum that covers a broad range of sciences, then you do a totally different program the next year that also covers a wide ranges of sciences. It seems like their is a probability of a lot of overlap of what the child will cover. Just wondering what you would recommend, and I hope this is making sense and I'm getting the point across. ?? 😬🙂
Great video! Thank you so much!!
Thank you for this. I have not been able to make it to a convention and am struggling to find a science curriculum I love.
I wish your video came out before I picked my curriculum for the year! I’m homeschooling 4 of my 6 kids this year... 8&under. I had went with apologia.... i really like the sassafras!
I just get overwhelmed with joy when my box of curriculum comes in! ☺️☺️☺️
I tried Apologia with my 7yr old and sadly we didn’t last a month there was soooo much reading and note taking my daughter hated it she said it was so boring and it was even for me doing the lesson with her!!! Now the hands on was really fun but for us Apologia did not work hopefully it will for ur family!!! Maybe when she’s older we may try it again but jus not at this age!!!
Currently we are doing Science Shepard and she loves it!!!
Loving this series! Thank you so much for setting this all up. I'm working with Sonlight at the moment, but am very open to switching up Science in the future..
Used apologia chem and flying creatures last year with my 4th grader. He loved loved loved the hands on science projects. We did not however like the heavy amount of reading and note booking. I feel a bit much for elementary. I think this year we will go with Sassafras and buy lots of projects at home science tools! Thanks for all the great ideas!
Fantastic Walk Throughs!!
Awesome! Thank you so much!!
Hi there, thank you for your video! Now a year later, I was wondering if you could do a video about a "review" about the books that you used this year.
I used to do large curriculum comparisions years back when I started my first channel. Sadly i've used about 90% of these programs over the last 5 years. 😏
Not sure if this is helpful to anyone, but as a secular homeschooler who has a science background, I prefer to use Apologia Science, hands down. Usborne, Real Science 4 Kids, public school textbooks, Biology For the Grammar Stage, R.E.A.L Science Odyssey are good, but I fell in love with Apologia after trying it this year. I am as secular as secular can be when It comes to teaching my kids about science, and I am able to modify it without issues. We LOVE it.
I should do some giveaways on the various programs that I am not using to help another families. I need to get rid of some books before the new school year starts.
Do you blog/vlog on how to do this for those of us wanting a super-strong secular (NOT neutral or nonsectarian) science curriculum but without your science background?? Because that would be awesome. :-)
@@jlfields88 I can do some comparison videos on the books I still have. I'm not sure what you mean by, "Without your science background." If you can clarify, that would be helpful. ☺
@@ToniaTutorials Thx. Sure! You stated above in your comment: "...as a secular homeschooler who has a science background...".
I do not have a science background. Just a basic education I've mostly forgotten.
@@jlfields88 Well, none of the programs require a degree. 😊 Everthing is laid out in the curriculum no matter what to pick. Yes, I can some video comparison on secular programs. It would not be professional like Rebecca's, but I can walk you though what I have used. I believe I have 3 left on my shelf to compare. Real Science 4 Kids, public school textbooks, and R.E.A.L science Odyssey I believe. I can do it this week. Come over. 😉
I’m waffling between REAL science odyssey and apologia this year. Why would you choose Apologia over science odyssey?
Thank you! Thank you! New to homeschool and I can't tell you how much this help. Please, please, middle and high school. And I would love to see recommendations for multiaged homeschoolers.
Thank you so much for putting this video together! I love these curriculum videos!! Would love to see a video on Canadian Resources (for history/geography etc) down the road. :)
We're Canadian homeschoolers and use the great Canadian adventures for history and geography, it's seen super fun :)
Thank you for the excellent overview. This is very helpful, especially for new homeschoolers. However, I also have a child close to high school. Do you have any reviews for high school level curricula, especially science?
Haha, I was hoping you would do one of these soon for Science! I literally just purchased RS4K with a coupon, but I'm glad you have it reviewed :)
Thank you, this was helpful!
Very Informative. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing this video. It was incredibly helpful for me.👍
Yay! I'm so glad Melissa! I don't get paid or sponsored for these videos so the biggest payoff is offering value to the homeschool community! I hope it helps make your decision a bit easier.
@@HomeschoolOn yes it really did. I had decided on all my curiculum choices except science, so this was just what I needed and now i have made me decision THANK YOU!
@@petagayejolly7577 What are you going with?
I love you Rebecka! Thanks for all the work you do! #fanclub
Thank you !! So helpful.
im new to homeschooling and your videos was very very helpful thank you
My children love Apologia books to read alone at bedtime. They also absolutely love Rod and Staff science except the 3rd grade year-it is oddly boring...but the 2nd and 4th-9th is just awesome...little bites within a unit. They mostly can do it independently and love the simple experiments. I absolutely love Rod and Staff for its simplistic yet in depth programs.
I have just finished watching all 4 or your curriculum comparison reviews and am now officially in love with your vlog.
I know there were some curriculums you just couldn't get ahold of for these videos but if you are able to get them I would love to see comparisons between All About Reading and Logic of English, Mystery of History and Story of the World, and Berean Builders and Apologia science.
Yes, and add TAN Books Story of Civilization to the comparison for history please! ❤
Thank you for this review! Any chance you can do a more in-depth walk-through of Sassafras?
Thank you so much for this - well done!! As a homeschooling mother, I feel that I personally am at the kindergarten level, so this was very helpful. This past year was our first year homeschooling and I focused on English and Math first, and then tried to pinch hit on Science, Geography, and History. I used the Evan-Moor Science workbook for my 5th graders. The workbooks are good for what they are, but very brief lessons, broad and shallow. I had the sense I wasn't really doing a full curriculum but didn't know where to turn. Your presentation has given me several avenues to explore. Keep up the good work! One question: Is it necessary to buy an entire book/workbook/kit PER child for science? That can get spendy.
Very helpful thank you.
I get too overwhelmed at the homeschool conventions. So this is super helpful!
Me too! Plus my people pleasing tendency makes me feel like I have to buy if I take up a person's time. This is such a relief!
Thank you for the wonderful video
I can't wake until you review the other subjects!
Thank you so much! Could you do a video on 6th grade social studies?
Hey. For Berean science curriculum: do you know if one book would be enough for the year to cover what they need for the particular grade level? Thanks 😊
There are a number of good options presented, but getting additional STEM resources such as hiring a college student tutor for a local college or community college or getting your kid involved in 4H or citizen science/science rec classes administered through a university can be a great option. I have an MS in physics and was homeschooled and can say that that wow moment when you discover something new about the world can't be over estimated. I was involved in an land grant extension class in middle and high school and helped discover flying squirrels lived in our area. The discovery made the front page of the local paper and I credit it for starting me on my professional path (I've dabbled in many sciences - can't seem to make up my mind which field to stick with even after getting my degree).
Could the Berean Builders work for high school as well? I'm doing family subjects for science and history
HI thank you so much for all of the reviews! This is my first year that we will be home school. I had a 100% yes after the conference was here to look at books so this is perfect thank you.....I need a few reviews on a grammar (only ) book and a writiing (only) for my 2nd grader.. can you give me ideas? I would like them to be seperate books so he can have 2 subjects any ideas? thank you
I feel like for the science video it would have been great to know which of these teach evolution and which teach creationism. Christian/neutral/non-Christian doesn’t really answer that question, and it’s a really really important one.
Agreed. That's essential to know
Agree.
typically christian would teach from a biblical stand point of creationism, secular evolution and neutral they don't go into either.
@@jerricad123 neutral is probably evolution as well but maybe without the Big Bang Theory
hmmm...i thought she said if it was secular, non-secretarian, or Christian. I took that as creation, evolution, or neutral.
This will be our fourth year with God's Design science. I love how easy the lessons are with multiple ages, and the hands-on activities are usually pretty easy (otherwise I would skip them!) My sister switched from AOP's lifepacs to God's Design because of the multi-age component. Different lifepacs for all the different ages of her kids was getting to be too much for her growing family.
Just saw your you tube about your Bible lesson you are doing are you still doing them? if so where can we buy? thank you
Would sassafras work for eclectic or a family whos more unschool ISH
Thank you for the video! Thank you for not including the most popular ones, so I could see other companies. Funschooling looks exciting! Looked on Amazon and my son wanted to get a bunch of them right away!!! We ordered one workbook from them. I wonder, if they have a curriculum..
hi, what are you thoughts on bookshark science K?
Thanks so much.
Are you still going to do the reviews for older grades?
Great video! I wish apologia was in here as I’d like to hear your opinion. Very thorough though so great job and thank you!
Loved this! Hoping you'll do this type of video for history as well!!
Coming up next!
@@HomeschoolOn oh yay!
Would love to see a video on The Rainbow science curriculum that's specifically geared towards middle school students (also Christian).
Any high school ideas?
I am a homeschool mom of five as well! Ages 11 down to 4. I also love curriculum 😂
Thank u for this video
Hi there, I was curious are all of these young earth?
I NEED that apologia review. I'm stuck between masterbooks and apologia! Help!
Have you tried or seen “The Good and the Beautiful?” science studies or History?
I was wondering if you could please do a video on American vs Canadian homeschool curriculum. I am interested in teaching homeschool as an option in Toronto. I know you live in BC but you are the only Canadian homeschool youtube channel I've found that goes into detail with these things.
Can you do a video about Christian Lights Education, it's hard to find videos about them.
Do the conventions have cheaper pricing than what it is online?
I am going insane trying to figure out which science to go with on master books... gods design for beginners or adventures in creation for grades 1-2 ish 🤔 🤯 Do you have any insight as to why someone should go with one vs the other and what master books maybe intended to be the "intro to science"
I can’t decide 🤦🏻♀️ I love masterbooks but we have never tried their science. This will be our first year doing science. Should I stick with what I know and love or should I try out berean builders because that looks awesome too?
I say buy both, we are doing MB Life and love it. I use the book as a text book and have them draw/answer in their journals. I have the 4, 6, 7, and 10 you doing it and find it very adaptable. BBs and Shepherd caught my eye as well though 😂.
These types of questions makes me glad that I have multiple children lol I can try different programs. I love books and love switching out curriculums
Being as yhis will be my first year homeschooling I went with master books zoology course for my science. My duaghter who is very into mermaids and all wanted the swimming creatures of the 5th day from Appologia. I happily abliged jet since this is the girl who hates science. So we are going to give it a try if she decides she doesn't like it, Masterbooks is my plan B. I also have the Nature Journal and Mom's First H
Year Homechooling from Thinking Books. I was purchasing Dyslexia Games for my duaghter and those also looked very appleaing. I may go back and order the endangered animals you showed for her too. My daughter is a huge animal lover. It might be fun addition to the morning basket for her. Thanks bunches for this review. I have chosen Masterbooks for my curriculum this year thanks to you reviews.
I have been told by so many people that apologia science curriculm is geared more towards highschool students. If I try to use something else my girls always asked to go back to the apologia. They are in grades 3 and 4 so given what I have been told I was surprised. What's your opinion?
Which of these are secular, if you don't mind providing a list. Thank you
Thank you.
Thank you so much for posting this !!!!!!!! this is our second year homeschooling my son is 5 and We use Abeka for our core subjects ( Math, writing, Phonics reading) but the science and social studies was lacking based on what we needed. Ive been scouring the internet to find something that works and this one video was all I really needed! I wish i had seen it before i spent hours combing through google lol .
