    I like your fire, lady. No one is questioning parents who dump their kids in public school, but they question homeschool parents. Your kids are so lucky to have a mom like you!

    My husband and I have decided that if our kids come out of homeschooling emotionally healthy, it is enough for us. Obviously things like reading and math too but what’s most important to us is emotional health.

    Wow ❤️‍🔥 I "stumbled" upon an article you wrote last night titled "Why we stopped using Abeka". I'm currently in my 3rd year of using Abeka. After reading your article I went on your website and I'm so captivated by everything I'm seeing. I had a breakdown and just questioning what am I doing with homeschooling my daughter. You touched base on so much that I have in my heart. Thank you🙏🏻

    Switched to homeschooling this year because covid gave me the opportunity to try. Now...total convert. We are not going back to brick and mortar school. Here in B.C. the education system has not been beneficial to my children at all! What has been beneficial is the relationship we have started to grow and tailoring curriculum to each child’s needs. What a privilege!

    Let me add that even if your kids don't retain a great deal of what they are learning right now, it sets the foundation for later learning. Familiarity with concepts and ideas can be built on year over year.

    I love this soooo much. I have homeschooled for over 6 years and I still feel insecure. My sister-in-law told me, "As a homeschool mom, my call is to raise children with a strong foundation in Christ. Teaching just goes along with it." Love our kids, play games with our kids, teach them about Christ, read to them, and pray, and it will be ok!

      @@indy2316 oh sweetheart, if you do the research colleges LOVE homeschool kids. They have much more respect and know how to get work done independently. Not only that, but homeschooling has gone through the roof after COVID. Parents are pulling kiddos left and right because of what is going on in schools. We homeschool families must be doing something right. And, as a Christian, I felt called to do so. If this is where God wants our family, He will bless it.

      @HealthyHousewife Рік тому

      @@indy2316 her being homeschooled has absolutely nothing to do with it. Being a homeschooled kiddo means if you have a passion then the parent can gear your education toward that passion. We go through high school credits just like any other child and they cannot get their diploma unless they have completed those credits. I guarantee you there are doctors who have been homeschooled and teachers who have been homeschooled. You don't become a doctor or a teacher based on the high school you went to, you become a doctor or a teacher based on the college you go to and the major you choose. And homeschool kiddos attend college just like everybody else.

    i'm not a mom, not even close to having kids of my own, i'm just really passionate about learning and as much as i loved my school experience in tradicional school, i always feel this kinda of sad feeling when i remember that 1- i didn't have the opportunity to go deeper in subjects that i really like because my teacher had a curriculum to fulfill during the year, 2- i HAD to learn subjects that didn't came easy to me in a certain way because, again, my teacher had to fulfill a curriculum and could not slow the pace for one single student. after growing, resarching, and figuring out on my own and with professionals what works for me when it comes to learning, and talking to friends that felt the same way about school, i feel that tradicional school has a lot to learn from homeschooling nowadays. specialty when we talk about kids from 4-14. really loved the video, looking forward to more of them. xo

    Thanks for this video. I am a first time homeschooling mom of a 5th and 2nd grader. Then have one starting kindergarten in September when baby #4 is due. I've been already feeling overwhelmed at the thought of it all and thinking if I should put them back into school. Along with the uncertainty of covid which I am not scared of at all my decision to homeschool was more based on my 2nd grader not grasping the remote learning as much and not wanting them in the ungodly system with their teachers teaching them about yoga and new age stuff instead of actual things they should be. Add the stress of masks and more possible vaccine requirements it was just time to get out. I prayed about it and realized it's just the devil trying to get in my ear because yes; why do I feel like I need to meet the world system's requirements? I need to meet my children right where they are and not put the stresses of the world on to them. I want them to learn, grasp it, have fun while they do it and not have to rush to meet requirements for school to get funding. God continues to give me reassurance as well as my hubby but, thanks from another momma for reminding me about that made up bar. I will continue to meet them where they are and not stress it. It's our job anyway to teach our babies and help them grow. God bless you all.😘

    Thank you so much for this. When starting off homeschooling, we were very structured. Structure wasn't working for us. My kids were not engaged and they did not look forward to homeschooling. We are more laid back in our approach to learning now. And I have to say, they are retaining more information now than ever before, especially when we touch upon topics that interest them. I was worried if what we were doing was enough. Sometimes I get emotional because I'm afraid that I'm either failing my kids or doing them a disservice by pulling them out of public school. Im grateful for your advice and the advice of other homeschool veterans who tell me that what we do is absolutely enough.

    I am a new homeschooling momma. I absolutely love the freedom of it (I get that, unfortunatly, that sometimes get determined by state standards/homeschooling laws) and I cannot imagine going back to such rigid scheduling. In order for our family to take a vacation we had to not only put in for that time at my husbans work but also "request" said vacation and have it approved by the school for four children. We are now expecting baby 5 (first girl) and the ease with which scheduling comes for our family now, its a HUGE difference. The single biggest difference however was being able to take this past year "off" and do nothing but review with my four boys. I needed to know where they were at for them. Not for the state, not for the school system, for THEM. Because that alone has helped me learn where they are, what they need help with, what kind of learner they are, and where they are strongest. The "unschooling" for me was probably more diffucult. What the public school system does to parents is just sad. I had to really step back and look at myself and realize that trying to mimic school at home was hurting them and myself and keeping me from truly homeschooling. Also, I found that so many different people homeschool. It is a vast over stereotyped trope that only religious families do it. I have seen and hugely wide variety of homes, homeschool their children. It is refreshing. THank you so very much for this video. I completely understand your "Angst" in the video because even after only a year of "Defending" myself to people with pre-conceived notions about homeschooling, it is so tiring and frustrating, I can't imagine having to have done that for years. I'm sure I will learn how, but now I have this video for reference!

    How much did WE retain when we went to school? Probably only the stuff we really NEEDED to know, like reading and writing and math. Those are the things we really need to focus on “academically”. Other than that, to me it’s the stuff our kids are gifted in and interested in, because most likely, that will be what they do for a career some day. That, and character and knowing God!!!!

    Thank you I needed to hear this! We started homeschooling this year only because of covid and I was so worried because we have been told over and over our daughter was advanced in reading and math and everything else was right at grade level, but when we started homeschooling her grammer was so behind, and she couldn't creatively think problems out she had been relying on her peers, and she didn't take risks in her education or have opinions. What troubled me the most was she was so used to her teachers telling her what to do and when to do it that she didn't even know how to learn or what interested her because she was just going through life coping everyone else. We don't plan to go back into the public school system atleast not for a few more years maybe highschool depending on what she want to do.

    I agree with a lot expressed here and don't think it matters so much what order things are taught but I think a lot of people asking this question about curriculum are more concerned with the progression of foundational skills like reading and writing. The thing about that is that the answer is different for every child so parents need to figure that out for each of their children and use whatever tools that child needs. There is no one curriculum that will guarantee success for all students in my experience.

    Great video. I agree with the overall sentiment. However, I would challenge the "teaching them Greece" example. It doesn't necessarily matter that we forgot many of the things we learned in elementary, middle school, and highschool. The forgetfulness doesn't logically conclude that the experience is/was pointless. We don't remember much of our daily lives as children either right? So does that mean that "living life" is also pointless since we don't remember every minute of every day we ever lived? Kids don't remember every single thing a parent says to them, so does that mean parents should never speak to their kids? Etc. The act of learning itself is what is important. It is exercise for the brain. Have you ever met someone that barely got their GED, and only as an addule in their 20's? They struggle with so much in life, because their brain hasn't practiced the art of "learning unnecessary things." And just because some children may forget everything about a Greece lesson doesn't mean that they all do. I know people who fell in love with Greece at a young age, and end up visiting it once a year as an adult. Overall: Just as you say that Tests are not a good measure of what a child knows, it is also true that "remembering" is not a good measure for determining what should vs should not be taught. Good stuff, and great thoughts though!

      @zenbane1876 3 роки тому

      @@yourfriendsliving1231 Actually, I never said nor implied that "learning is all that matters." I said it was "important." Big difference. One can have many things in life that are important, not just one. For example, it's important to have a balanced diet; not just eat one single thing.

      @HomeschoolOn  3 роки тому +13

      Thanks for your comment. I understand what you're getting at, however the point was that learning about Greece in a specific grade for the sake of the government telling you that in that grade it must be taught is not a measuring stick to be used to determine our success. Of course learning in and of itself is about building a foundation and is all about learning how to learn, but we can do that in a way that has so much more impact if we teach to the child rather than teach specific content in a certain way because we're told to, or trying to reach some abstract principle of "normal". Hopefully the heart of the message came through

    All schools are listing to BIG BUISNESS ! Business model tells the schools what " They" need us to think feel and believe . So that we can continue working THEIR jobs and relying on them to provide us with our little piece of life that we are so uncomfortable comfortable with . They don't want INSPIRED outside the box thinkers. Any type of " trouble maker" behavior is punished. I remember getting multiple detentions in highschool for not bringing my books to class and then getting three hour Saturday detentions. I WAS BEING PUNISHED because THEIR classes and the things they were trying to shove in my head was not something that I wanted in my head! So i was told for the longest time that I was bad. I went to the special room with the other "bad" kids because I wanted to make kids laugh and smile during class instead of stare at a book or powerpoint with dates and names I didnt care about. Those dates and names didnt help me figure out what to do with my sadness and abonnement issues. They didnt teach me how to stop trying to impress every kid and just be authentically me. Children have a innate essence that is unique to each individual. Class clowns make great speakers and leaders. The ones who dont bring supplies to class are subconsciously screaming " GIVE US SOMETHING GREAT TO LIVE FOR" Children these days don't know what they want or who they want to be in the future. Given a very small list of occupations to choose from. Placed in front of screens at such early stages of development. Agenda 31 , has broken down the family units , parents and children hate each other, children and parents both find relief and belonging in peers or thru social media, sex. food etc. WHAT IF .... what if we told each child at a very young age . " This world IS broken BUT THEY have the power to fix it. Let your children know the people in charge DONT CARE ABOUT THEM! They want your money ( which money is power right now ) so basically they want your POWER. They take away very important information like how to grow our own food and work together within communities to help each other and How to eat the right way to heal your body of all sickness. United nations are scared. They know that their time is about come to an end. That is why there is constantly race and religion wars , now its straights against gays . the list goes on and on . They are TRYING their best to separate us in every way they can . I guess they are not smart enough to know that the more lonely and separate we feel , the bigger the fire of resilience & determination for love and freedom get . We are creating a new earth. Yes there will be birth pains that come along with that . If we want to change the Macro Cosim we have to start with ourselves then our friends and family then the world . I love you all :) Be aware of the problem then FOCUS on solution!

    I am a new homeschool mom to 3 kiddos this year (1st, 3rd, 7th). I have found this year very challenging with how to best use my time and split my time between all my children. I have watched many youtube moms and most of the time I feel like I am not doing enough. I also struggle with your view point (tho I don't think you are wrong) and I think that comes from attending Catholic schools from K-12 and pushing myself to my limits to do well so that I could attend college and have a career. I did graduate with both a BS in nutrition and a MS in public health which I had to pay for on my own working 30 hours a week and keeping up a 4.0. I think this is why I feel I cannot subscribe to a more relaxed approach- its likely my own brainwashing as a kid that the only way you get anywhere in life is to study nonstop. Do you feel that maybe you are able to have this viewpoint because I believe in an earlier video I watched you said you knew you always wanted to be a mom and homeschool- not sure if college was not on your radar? Here in CT the cost of living is one of the highest in the United States and without being highly competitive in schooling it would be difficult to survive at a minimum wage job. I have been home with my kids for the last 8 years leaving a very high paying hospital job but have always had to have a side gig waitressing at higher end restaurants to make ends meet and we definitely live within our means- there are lots of our peers that do not! How do you feel your approach may change as your children enter high school? I am trying to be more relaxed with my younger two as I have a 3rd grader who struggles greatly with math but my soon to be 8th grader I feel I need to push- he is lazy otherwise and I fear for his future. Any suggestions? Thank you for taking the time to make these videos.

    Totally agree with every single word you say. School system is broken. I feel bad for the parents who can't homeschool for one reason or another. Because not everyone can. I'm grateful I can. And my 6 yr old is already doing things that you're not supposed to learn until 2nd grade. She'd be learning things she learned when she was 4, in kindergarten right now. No thanks.

    This has to be the most brilliant video I have seen in a very long time. Thank you for bringing a light to this subject. I am new to your curriculum and my kids are loving it. Yet I constantly get questioned by those around us, family, are they learning enough? Are they where they need to be? Are you doing testing to make sure they are keeping up? This video answers all of those questions so well. Thank you and keep doing what you are doing. Your time and talents are a gift to so many of us.

    Whewwww!!! I felt you hard on this one mama! You just lifted so much weight off my shoulders! I was weighing myself down feeling like am I giving them enough or am I teaching the right things trying to stay up to date with public schools or will they be smart enough to go to college and on and on. We have 5 kids 13, 13, 12, 12 & 2 (no twins just a beautiful blended family) and we just found out our 2 yr old will be on the autism spectrum and I’m at a place where I just want to slow down, enjoy life with my family and be the wife, mother and woman of God that he’s called me to. Slow living!!! I needed to hear this and I felt your passion and drive. Thanks Rebecca!

    We are doing our 1st Gather Round unit (North American Forest Animals). My 10 year old has a learning disability that makes reading and writing a challenge and she avoids it at all cost. For some reason she really connected with the Wolf lesson. She is devouring books about wolves and asked me if she can please use my computer to write a paper about wolves. We went to hobby lobby so she could spend her allowance on supplies to make a wolf mask. She’s spouting wolf facts left and right. Everything in this video is so true.

    What I don’t understand is how a unit study covers all the language arts basics for all ages. I mean, because unit studies can be done at any time, how does it cover what is needed when it is needed? Can you please explain? I’d love to do a complete unit study covering all subjects if I could understand this.
