- Come along as we climb up onto the roof of a brand new 2024 KZ Durango Gold, let's find out together if KZ RV is doing things better than the other manufacturers out there. #rvmaintenance #rvrepair #rvrepairs #rvinspection #rvinspiration #rvrenovation #rvcommunity #rvlife #rvlifestyle #kzdurango #newgenerationrv #newrvs #rvamerica #rvliving #rvtravel
I see a lot of imperfections in that roof that you were quick to point out in the GD that you skipped here
TPO membrane will show every little spot when it's adhered correctly to the OSB sheathing, the main things are how it is sealed directly to the plywood which in this case there are no air bubbles, pockets of air where the membrane is 'lifting' from either too much glue or not enough glue, every seam is laid down tight with no air pockets or 'lifting' at the seams, all of the Dicor is spread smooth and even with no bubbles or lifting, not a single nail or screw pop to be seen, all of the edges where the membrane stretches over the edges are perfectly tied in and sealed with no areas of loose fitting membrane. Remember, OSB sheathing is the same plywood we use when building a house, or covering up rafters on a house, OSB plywood is rough in its natural state not a completely smooth product like AC or sandable finish plywood, all in all 3 people have inspected the roof and all said they did a good job.
Good to see!!!!
Nice job and congratulations to you guys on your new rig!!! Best of luck with this one. Mark
Phew!!!!!!!! I was worried!!! LOL!!! Well KZ for the win so far!!! Keepem coming!! I am so rooting for you two! KZ was my first travel trailer back in 2003, Loved it!! Not 1 problem. Kinda partial to them. Hoping there still great!
I’ll sleep better knowing that you’ve finally found peace ☮️
So, it is clear that KZ is using OSB as roof sheathing. While that's not a problem IF the appropriate side of rated OSB is up for fully adhered membranes, from your crawl across the roof, it appears that a couple of sheets are likely upside down. Those areas are the ones to keep an eye on because if separation begins, that's where it would likely be first. Just part of bi-yearly inspection and maintenance to keep and eye out for separation and lift. Good luck with this one.
Nice to see they have implemented attic vents is it edpm or pvc roof thanks Greg
Our last fifth wheel was a KZ. They must have cheaper out their roofing material since then. Ours was much thicker and perfectly smooth. We had no moon craters. Yes I was up there multiple times to clean and inspect.
Do I detect wood shims under the AC units as levelers? If so, I would think that they need to be sealed against the elements.
There are yes, they are cut from treated wood, the same wood we use to construct decking material. You don't actually need to treat it or to seal it.
what happen with the grand design videos and updates did you settle with them ?
Your Right I don't see nail pops, bubbles, but looks a little rough. Shouldn't it be smooth?
The manufacturers use OSB, oriented strand board, which is not a smooth surface, it's the same sheathing we use when we build homes or additions. The only way to get a perfectly smooth roof would be to use what's called AC plywood, which is a very smooth wooden plywood.
@@CruizinWithTheCarsons Thanks
Looks like an inspection of craters on the moon. This video will self destruct in 5 days.
If you're unfamiliar with oriented strand board as a roofing substrate I can understand what you're seeing. OSB is a type of plywood used for wall and roof sheathing. It is not a perfectly smooth surface. When you take a TPO membrane and adhere it to the substrate you're going to see all of the imperfections of the OSB that it is attached to. It's actually not a bad thing. In this case the TPO membrane is actually adhered quite nicely to the OSB substrate.
Ha Ha.
Such a better 5th wheel.
Where’s the video of the other roof you inspected?
How can you tell if nails or screws are popping as rough as that roof looks it looks like stucco on house
Nail and Screw pops are very obvious on a TPO membrane roof. Picture a bed sheet laying flat on your kitchen counter, now take lets say a piece of a toothpick that's about a 1/4" or 3/8" and stand it up underneath that bedsheet, that's what it'd look like.
How about a tour of the new rig?
The video right before this one.
Don't worry, those other manufacturers will be slowing down since no one is buying them now after the debacle.
Riverstone has a fiberglass roof!
Nice!
The two rear ACs are not mounted correctly and the shrouds are probably damaged. If you look in the lower right corner, you'll see that there is exposed metal near the edge. The shroud cover is supposed to go over this metal. The front AC is mounted correctly. And using treated or untreated lumber to shim the AC is really a rookie horrible technique.
The rear a/c unit mount is cracked in the corner
Not seeing what you're seeing, at what time mark in the video are you seeing what you mentioned?
At 2:39.
The left side had to be shimmed???
The right side is flush (no shim). But the shroud is cracked, wedged up because of the metal base…
I’d be worried as to why one side is shimmed .
Is it centered, or is the roof bowed more to one side ?
@@TheDesertdawg1 first rainstorm water everywhere, but will never hear about it on this channel. Just like Sarasota Tim says, can’t believe a word he says.
