- Today I'll be taking a look at the Lowlander greatsword made by Hanwei in China and talking about why great swords may have used, albeit sparsely, throughout history.

Excellent review, thank you very much for this. I've been on the fence about this sword for a long time, because of the rattling guard. I believe you are correct about the shims though, I would just go with medium wood, as soft will break free and hard may re-profile the guard. I would also put some contact cement (like Barge's) under the fattest basal part of the shim just to keep it there much longer. Enjoy the blade. I'm thinking I may go with the Guardian from Dark sword... Great swords are my favorite, I have the three, but always looking for another one to play with!
Great video thanks jay.
Thanks!
I like the old German woodcut of Swordsmen.I have some repro Samurai swords ,In the $2-$3 hundred dollar range but I don't want to swing them and wreck the sword or a body part .Nice video
I have the same issue with my Hanwei claymore but seeing that the chape is peened to the blade gives me a sense of security. I think this problem is common with hanweis European swords.
short answer to title: why not
long answer: because why the hell not
can be used as a hedge trimming tool as well.
is the Dacian 2 handed falx a type of great sword?
The one on iamindi (Czech forge) is only 37", so I would say that one is not. I'm not sure what the historical versions were, length wise, but there is a min length for great sword vs longsword.
What did u drop on the sword in the very beginning
Just a water bottle, I was trying to figure out a jokey way to show an obvious loop.
A lot of the long items ,Pikes and swords were so you could reach someone on horseback.
What a beast
For milk jugs sure. Nothing solid however.
why is the fuller so short?
Good question- not sure. Seems more decorative than functional, as without it, the base of the blade would just be a blank slab? The blade may have already been too flexible to run a fuller the full length or just too expensive.
daddy likes what he sees
Anti polarm
Wall hanger display. A sword this length needs more weight to be durable. Don’t hit anything other than milk jugs, it’ll break. Hanwei is well known for breaking. I’ve broken 3 swords from hanwei. Hanwei Lowlander, hanwei claymore, hanwei bastard sword. They’re too fragile for a beast like me.
I chop a tree down in this very video, it held up fine. Skallagrim and Matt Easton both speak highly of Hanwei's steel quality and are both harder on swords than I am.
@@jaysblades go all out like i did, brutal but honest

"Great swords" were made as somewhat of a counter to poleatms. Longer reach and the rings around the handle maintain your dexterity while catching any spearheads that travel along the flat of the blade.
