For those wondering how this could happen so flippantly, be reminded that when royals like this had children, they did not raise them themselves, necessarily. Sometimes the parents of these children would seem nearly like complete strangers until they enter preteen ages when they're expected to begin social responsibilities.

Thank you for mapping this family tree. I am related to just about all the people in this tree. I would like to say Marie A.'s mother Maria Theresa did not have the Habsburg chin. Maria Antoinette didn't really inherit it either you can see this in the death mask. She did have the slight receding upper lip and fuller bottom lip. Actually she had a bit of a weak chin. People focus too much on the extended form of this defect on the more pronounced versions in her family tree. The current Habsburgs have Marie A. chin, it is a weak chin with a receding upper lip. I and members of many my family inherited the weak chin fuller bottom lip and slightler smaller upper lip. My smallest cousin is Maria Antionette's twin in appearance she in turn is near identical to her mother my first cousin but again we are from mostly from the very top of Maria Antionette's tree. Our ancestors also intermarried numerous times in the Catholic Church requiring dispensation etc. this was somewhat normal in Royal, Aristocratic and landed families. I would have difficulty even now figuring out how many times my own parents are related as distant cousins. The leading families would marry cousins and even in 1 case a niece to keep power, land and money in the family. If pushed I would have to say my mother and father are related at least 5 times through various distant family lines. Clearly they did not know this when they got married however there we are. My mother's family however knew that everyone they married was basically a distant cousin cousin dating back to the 15-1600's. After awhile everyone is going to be a distant cousin in this type of situation. I would say the all the Royal families, aristocrats and landed families are distant cousins etc. at this point. Many dogs are inbreed to try and strengthening certain characteristics (while also doing the same to negative health traits). The cases in history of inbred royal family trees is focused on titles and accumulation of power.

I love this channel. History lines are so fascinating! One thing my wife and I would love for you to add is the living years underneath the person's name like you have for Eleonora Gonzaga. I highly doubt it to be honest. I mean, the whole point seemed to be to keep(hoard) titles and assets as close to the family and allies as possible. The fact that most were very much aware that they were marrying their cousin in some cases makes me believe they saw the incest aspect less relevant than the wealth hoarding aspect. From my little Google search, it seems incest was still considered disgusting and immoral , especially among common folk. But...the choices get narrower when you're a noble looking for someone of suitable rank. (Please note, I am not an expert and I've done a very minimal search on this)

Arthur died six months after the wedding and Catherine firmly stated that she and Arthur never consummated the marriage. Yes. Henry VIII had to get one to marry Catherine of Aragon because it was incest to marry one’s brother’s wife. I think the Biblical interpretation was based on Deuteronomy. That was one of the issues that caused the pope to refuse a new dispensation allowing Henry to divorce Catherine and marry Anne Boleyn.

I'm the same as you DNA test I have too many Empress Maria Treasa and Marie Antoinette which means all the brothers and sisters and Napoleon Bonaparte mother's DNA Leticia Romolino and Napoleon married his second wife Marie Antoinette niece so both relatives married each other I have all 3 French lines Bourbon Napoleon and De Orleans and Spanish Hapsburg line and a bit of Portuguese noble Unfortunately I inherited a very painful genetic bone diesese which I'm sure wasn't identified due to no CT scans or MRI It be great to talk to you Google Princess Beatrice France she's Marie Antoinette niece blonde hair and you will see what Marie Antoinette looked like I'm the same I look like Napoleon as his younger pictures with him holding up flags behind him my Dad and his brothers look like Napoleon too only 200 years but that's still short enough time for family resemblance I'm looking for the more recent relatives that will be my connection Sure love to speak with you sound close enough of a relative 🌹

The cases in history of inbred royal family trees is focused on titles and accumulation of power.
Line breeding and inbreeding in dogs are two different things.. Line breeding is beneficial, inbreeding is not

I love this channel. History lines are so fascinating! One thing my wife and I would love for you to add is the living years underneath the person's name like you have for Eleonora Gonzaga. Anna of Cleves has her birth year and that's good too but birth and death year would be awesome and give a little more frame of reference to their lives. Great job overall though!

Anybody know if the royal families ever lost track of their ancestry and were unaware that they were marrying nieces nephews and cousins?
I highly doubt it to be honest. I mean, the whole point seemed to be to keep(hoard) titles and assets as close to the family and allies as possible. The fact that most were very much aware that they were marrying their cousin in some cases makes me believe they saw the incest aspect less relevant than the wealth hoarding aspect. From my little Google search, it seems incest was still considered disgusting and immoral , especially among common folk. But...the choices get narrower when you're a noble looking for someone of suitable rank.
(Please note, I am not an expert and I've done a very minimal search on this)

@@geslinam9703 apparently it was a well-known fact among the normal citizen class that inbreeding was bad. not only morally but health-wise (due to their experiences breeding horses). they had no wealth to keep in the family and they knew it wasn't a good idea, so i really don't see any reason that regular folk would be marrying their own cousins.

Marie-Antoinette's husband (Louis XVI) and his own children were third cousins 🤭 Yep, his maternal grandmother was Empress Maria Theresa's cousin. Also, Marie-Antoinette was (through her paternal grandmother) more closely related to Louis XIII than Louis XVI was. I love this family so much! 😄😍

They were second cousins I think but by looking at this chart I think it was not the cause.
@@savagedarksider5934Probably. Catherine was initially married to Henry VIII’s brother, Arthur Prince of Wales. Arthur died six months after the wedding and Catherine firmly stated that she and Arthur never consummated the marriage.
It was a strategic political alliance so the pope was asked to give a dispensation for Henry VIII to marry Catherine.

I love your show. I have a question about how accurate is Ancestry sites? How accurate is The LDS since they're library is the biggest collection around? I've been doing my grandmother's genealogy side which is on my mother's side. I've found some interesting connections. That started popping up on my tree I was putting together. Yes. Henry VIII had to get one to marry Catherine of Aragon because it was incest to marry one’s brother’s wife.
I think the Biblical interpretation was based on Deuteronomy.
That was one of the issues that caused the pope to refuse a new dispensation allowing Henry to divorce Catherine and marry Anne Boleyn.
