I am 75 years old an American female and when I grew up everyone follow these rules. it was considered good manners and our parents would allow nothing less. I think Society would be greatly improved if we went back to the days of good manners. I did not come from a wealthy family so if you are thinking that you are wrong. perhaps, the United States could implement manners month... much less important things get a month so why not manners?

I'm 62 and an American male and many of the things in this video applied to our family growing up in New England and I too am far from ever having been wealthy. Clothing and appearance in particular were strictly regulated. It was not until the early 1970's when everything turned to crap and nobody cared what you wore.

I spent a lot of time, teaching my 4 kiddos. I taught them table manners, showing courtesy to others, Especially, I showed them restaurant politeness, treating the server, kindly, speaking to any server with courtesy. Also, when traveling by air, to be very courteous to flight attendants along with people you don't know who are seated next to them.
My kiddos resisted, didn't see the value in what I was teaching them. They thank me, now.

It hard to find a godly woman like you who are willing to educate their kids 24/7. Many parents leave it to school educators to "toilet train" their adolescent. I was teaching these kids. Believe me they were a handful. Be encourage, you will reap good wheat once you instill daily respon- sibilities in their growing years.

Well said. It’s mainly left to others to teach their kids and this can include wiping their bums when they go to the toilet. Modern parents just see that it’s up to others not them. The number of times I see young mums/dads on public transport who are looking at their mobiles while the kid’s sat in the push chair. There’s no interaction between the parent and child. So sad to see.

Really? I don't think it's that special. Unless you never had the opportunity to take a foreign language class in school, most people know some foreign language to an extent. I'm American and have been here my whole life and everyone I know has had to take a foreign language since at least 6th grade and well into high school and then again in undergrad (I was in school in the very early 90s and took Spanish from 3rd-11th grade and my elementary school was Title 1). Most of my friends speak another language, they may not be 100% fluent, but definitely can have a conversation with someone in another language or can read another. It's not that special. I learn ASL on my own and sign with my co-workers and some friends (I'm a SPED teacher so i use it to help my students who are nonverbal plus I'm also losing my hearing so it's giving me a leg up for when I no longer can hear) and study Latin in my free time. Knowing multiple languages is cool though. We do also need to decide what the true definition of "fluency" is. I mean, American children are still not "fluent" in English. They are still learning yet that is/will be their native language. We can then talk about dialect and regions. There are words and phrases throughout America (and I'm sure in other countries, as well) that people in other parts of the country do not know or don't say. I'm from the north and have heard phrases that I never knew existed before until I visited the south. Makes you think how one can truly be 100% fluent.

I grew up with some of these rules, sitting at the table , dress code etc. No harm done . I then taught them to my children and often had compliments how well behaved my children were. I could take them to restaurants, vist people etc. You start young and main constant. My children also learnt how to make their own beds , clean at around 9, I would include them to help from early on, spray bottle of water, wet cloth, they were very happy. Better than sat in front of tv, or as nowadays an IPad. Children do actually need rules , guidance. It’s our job to raise them so they can go into the world and contribute not hinder.

I will never dream of disrespecting my grandparents by not having basic manners. Blue collar raised in the American south, I still say no and thank you mam/sir even to those younger. I like seeing children get excited being adressed as an adult. Holding doors and picking up after ones self. Respecting staff of anywhere, especially service jobs. I'm asian and I do bow when I greet. I feel awkward actually shaking hands, especially to elders or professionals or authorities. I was actually taught to bow to the drivers when they let me cross the road.
However I'm not familiar with dining etiquette at all because I only know chopsticks etiquettes. Also some countries' etiquettes contradict. I don't look at people's eyes when I talk, especially to the elders. I don't ask how people are doing because it's not appropriate unless the person shares about anything. I don't compliment others unless the person's way younger, because one should be higher at the hierarchy to judge someone.
Those are hard to change even if I try to remain conscious, and that has resulted in people thinking I'm poorly educated when I go to other countries.
Anyway it's always good to have good manners but there are culture differences. Also at places where have rigid rules of manners, the social collective pressure is always high. For example, people sleep on the street at night because you have to over-drinking to please your boss; gender inequality/discrimination is super serious because of the traditional "manners". There are always two sides of a coin.

But "NO CUDDLE RULES" for kids is SICKENING! Children needs hugs and kisses from their parents. Humans are created to be social loving beings. And we naturally seek physical love with our parents. Now I'm talking "normal" hugs, kuddling up together or hugs when sick or sad. Everyone needs to feel loved not just by words but by action. Like Princess Diana. She raised her boys with lots and lots of hugs and kisses. But then again, she lived the whole world. God bless her memory!

My parents had it easy. We were naturally well behaved without anyone teaching us to be. I think we read a lot of books as toddlers all the way to children from Enid Blyton, Ronald Dahl, Nancy Drew, all the fairytales, Miss Sunshine series, just tons and reading the right books I think naturally created civilised kids in us. In public not once did we ever misbehave. We were taught to have fun writing by starting our own diaries in Mickey Mouse padlock diaries. We had a lot of time to play and had toys. We were surrounded a lot with Art, music and Ballet and dance videos too. Andrew Lloyd Webber as well. Art is great for kids. All this I think balances out a child but for Royals probably more rules and etiquette to follow.

A lot of parents work full time and some have 2nd jobs. The economy is terrible. I taught high school special education and preschool. I’ve seen parents who take the teachers as their child’s babysitter. I’ve actually have seen a parent who got upset when they were called to pick up their sick child. Teachers put up with a lot with both, parents and children.
Now days, lots of parents don’t spend quality time with their children. They don’t take the time to teach manners and respect. A lot don’t even show concern for their children. If their child doesn’t know how to do something, they blame their teachers. I’ve had a parent yell at me because their child was failing. This child never did any work. This parent never checked the daily progress folder that we sent home. We tried calling but phone service was turned off. It was sad. Child had no manners and an I don’t care attitude. I finally got in touch with mother and she yelled at me, blaming me for her child failing. I set her straight.
It’s sad when parents don’t want to be responsible for their children. I see children as gifts of miracles. 💜💕❤️

I'm 41 and grew up with similar rules a
For etiquette. I taught my children those same manners. I still teach the younger children in my husband's family these manners. I have dinner parties for justtge children that starts with tea. The kids love it. I have formal family dinners every Tuesday. I cook the meals and make the desserts. My husband's mother used to have Sunday dinners and the family had to be dressed in suits and elegant dresses at least tea length no cocktail dresses. I explained to my nieces and nephews that if they wish to invite friends to our tea parties or dinner parties that they must be well behaved and dress at least in slacks and dress shirts/ tea length or floor length dresses. I had one mother complain. She heard the menu and she said my son can't eat that fancy food. I said I'm sorry I can't eat fast food. I have allergies and food insensitivities. She wanted me to just cook boxed Mac and cheese and frozen bagged burgers. I can't eat either. Alot of those bargain burgers contain soy products as does the Mac and cheese along with preservatives. All of which gives me a nasty stomach ache. The meal she complained about was roast duck stuffed with apples and bread stuffing, on top of mashed turnips and potatoes, sweet peas, with a duck gravy.
A salad of grapes, cranberries, baby spinach, arugula, romaine lettuce, carrots, and cherry tomatoes.
Then petite fours and Lady fingers with chocolate fondue and fruits and cheeses. I made a ginger ale punch with orange juice, mango puree, peach puree, strawberry puree pineapple juice and pineapple slices.
