    I’ve got the G6 and it has some great tones and also sounds good through my Marshall as a pedal board. I really like the looper and i’ve put an SD card in it for the extra recording time. I’ve managed to get my beat buddy connected and can use the looper to record whole songs as well as loops.
    The menu system is horrible to use its a real mess with a touchscreen that is so slow and outdated. I don’t use it much now i’ve made the presets i like thank god.
    The presets are awful please don’t let the sound of them put you off as you can make your own great tones but its not a pleasant experience going through the menus to make them.

    The first zoom pedal I have was the MS-50G. It’s a good pedal, used it as a delay / reverb solo pedal, but can not bank up or down only rotating. Then now I have a zoom G1X Four, with expression pedal, 2 foot switch for bank up and down, which is more easy to use; however, there is a gap/latency while bank up or down.
    Line 6 helix / HX / Pod Go with the snapshot mode solves this problem.
    I would rather buy a pre-own Pod Go than buying a brand new Zoom G6.

  • @TheBloggingMusician
    @TheBloggingMusician Рік тому +7

    Thanks for your honest review (and subbed) It hasn't dissuaded me to buy a G6 though... here's why,:
    1. Sounds. Zoom absolutely trounces Line 6 (and most others) for modelled tone, especially OD. That's counts for a lot.
    2. UI. I get the menu needs refining, but zoom are already doing it via updates. Also, once tones are setup its less of an issue. Not a deal breaker at all.
    3. PedalBoard mode. A few have commented they prefer the G5n bet that has the awful paging needed to switch between footswitchable fx. G6 solves this is by allowing you to configure them. The switching is also more flexible than the pod go which restricts you with only 4 custom FX.
    4. Build..well the G3 was plastic and never had an issue with that. Do I prefer metal ? Yes. Is plastic a negative? Not necessarily.
    5. DSP. A feature of all zoom multis....and never really an issue unless you try and Max the DSP with hungry FX. In a gig situation with an amp / OD / MOd / delay / znr / reverb..... never ever an issue. And never has been.
    All in all. The G6 is taking the sounds of the G5n, improving them (slightly) and sorting out the g5n switching issues by taking a leaf out of Line 6s book (but without the awful tone).
    They didn't quite nail the UI but I think the G6 is the Perfect G5n upgrade. Especially at around £300.
    Bought one.

    • @TheBloggingMusician
      @TheBloggingMusician Рік тому +1

      @@Ian-jh6mm Hardly anything. Tapping on the block now takes you directly into edit mode, which helps, but that's the tip of the iceberg. The whole UI + Limited switches is, in my opinion, at best unusable and at worst broken. These 'Fixes' won't ever fix that.

    • @Ian-jh6mm
      @Ian-jh6mm Рік тому +1

      @@TheBloggingMusician so do you regret the purchase? I’m leaning more towards the G5n because it has so many foot switches it makes it easy to change between stomp mode and patch/memory mode too.

      @@Ian-jh6mm Very much so. The G6 is a big let down. The G5n is far easier to navigate but bare in mind if you use amp/ cab sims, you will run into all sorts of tap dancing trouble if you have a switchable pedal before and after those blocks.

    Still using Zoom PS02 Palmtop Studio that I've had since 2001/2002. It is a 4 track digital recorder with built in emulating multi effect unit. Also drums, too. I've saved many useable tones in their own patch but need a unit where I can pretty much copy over the settings from my patches into another Zoom product, hence why I was considering the G6.
    My ancient PS02 has DNR (was the first product offering with it) like all current offerings. The drawbacks of the G6 may have me consider a different Zoom product. I don't play lead and pretty much cycle through settings I use for rhythm guitar and laying down riffs.

    I have the Zoom G6, firmware updates can be done via Guitar Lab software, you don't need the SD card for that. I agree with you (more or less) it has some flaws. But i really like the tones, effects quality and simplicity of my G6, and i've had a couple of the alternatives:
    - Mooer GE200: Didn't like the tones, effects quality is bad
    - Hotone Ampero: Amp tones are...decent, effects quality is bad
    As for other alternatives (based purely on UA-cam videos):
    Line 6 Pod Go: Sounds compressed and digital
    Nux MG-30: Just going to say this: COME ONNNNN!!!
    Headrush MX5: mmm...maybe, maybe...
    Going to be patient and wait for updates, or jump to the bigger unit the G11. I want to stay with Zoom, i really like the tones in this unit, it has great playing dynamics across the fretboard.

Modulations are better on G6, reverbs are better on G6 and finally harmonizer is better too. Pod Go have only 4 slots for effects and in real getting DoubleTank Rev and Rotary 145 eat all DSP power so you have only 2 effects and another two slots are not usable. To be honest pod go have stereo loop what is not much necessary for me.

    I'm just totally put off with the last couple years of digital gear but especially since Zoom stopped using tubes at the end of the circuit path. Their G5 and 9.2tt, both of which are dinosaurs, still sound phenomenally better than everything I hear coming out today.
    I'm a major fan of Zoom and I've bought something from everyone including Headrush and Line 6, and the Zooms that came out at the same time have always been superior.
    With prices rising though and their really trimming features down, I went back to the Zoom G5 with it's tube exciter that puts it miles about the sound quality of everything today.

    I think the old modeller stuff was better or at least not to far in quality programming. Some IR loader can save alot of time and if you using a proper cab I think you couldn't notice almost any improvement from old to new modellers, of course some brands like Mercuriall, Nembrini, Audiority are making with Neural some of the best digital audio simulations but Neural it's way overpriced and the other companies aren't selling equipment, so I waiting something like the teleport by Orange but with more connections or something that can capture some "Daw signal chain" into presets and load out of the computer.
    Kemper is still the best think for presets and stuff to make and sell online stuff. I use a plug-in IR, EQ, poweamp and ecc digital usb module into my EhX optical tube compressor (black finger) and that's it, this can bring life for any solid state stuff or digital. Plug and play this make a huuuge difference before my Yamaha ThR10 as I can use some eq and boost before (after the compressor) from the module with others type of IR like tape machine IRs, endless possibilities just with a proper way of using a proper old tech with digital stuff.

However, I will admit that at a certain price point you just start paying for features no one really uses or even needs. Generally if the gear is $120 or less with Zoom, it is tends to be a really great bang for the buck.

    My opinion , the LCD screen in zoom products are the worst I which I have came across, The screen faded off and is blur after some years of use. There is no replacement parts and back up service from local agent/dealers, I would not recommend 🙈

      My 23 year old Zoom PS02 works perfectly. No issues with the screen. Only quibble with this ancient tech:SmartMedia cards. Otherwise, I'd still be using to record demos, so I stick with using it as a practice tool with easy to program drums.

    Seems like there's a lot of potential, or a good idea in theory, but then it becomes compromised in the execution of the final product. Perhaps some of these things could be corrected with a software update, including the updating system itself being widened to something beyond just the SD card only option.

      I agree, every time I try one of the Zoom products I in general like it, but their always a little goofy to navigate.
      Apparently you can do it through the software, but like I mentioned I couldn't get the software to work so there's no way for me to confirm.

    I had a zoom 2020 in the 90s. It sounded exactly the same as this eg crap. Wtf have they been doing for the last 30 years. The pod go is far superior and cheaper here in the UK. Even the Boss ME 80 sound better and they are cheaper still. Sorry but it's a no from me

    Zoom has indeed turned into a really weird anomaly in the last few years. They seem to be making products under a "what's the least amount possible can we get away with" philosophy and, where they do splurge, it's on useless shit that just complicates the user experience. Honestly, the last good product Zoom came out with in the multi-effects world was the G3. They still make great field recorders.

    There is no nice way to say this. That thing sounds like hammered shit. That gold faced Peavey behind you has some awesome patches out of the box. This sounds like it really needs... It needs a lot of help.
    To provide some context just this past weekend my wife and I stopped at a garage sale. And for $50 I got a pretty much brand new in the box Line 6 shortboard Mark II and a line six pocket pod. That pocket pot is really neat! Unfortunately, even due to its age that pocket pod blows away this brand new modeler.

    i agree with u on the horrible aesthetics of that fake carbon fiber look. disgusting. weird UI in the touchscreen as well. but your whining about the SD card is silly. its a great idea to include a long recorder inside your pedal to record your own ideas & jam sessions with a looper without needing a separate computer. regarding the fx quality : i would expect the usual things i have seen for 20 years. usually, their reverbs are tinny & metallic. but the other stuff usually is very good. the tape delays & innovative ideas like filtered delays / pitched delays are their strength.

Instead of leaving butthurt comments slagging someone doing us all a favour, maybe try make better content than Taylor. However, I'd edge my bets on you absolutely not being able to. Zoom needs to go out an hire UX peeps. Lots of "almost good" products. They also need to have jrock bands endorse. wtf? Damn, get nationalistic in your branding and bring back Japan of the 80s in rock. I have G2s, G3x, G5s, MSs. Lots of quirky go lucky sounds. That is the shit. As is XLR out, bro. Don't go all IR matchy matchy the classic rock . Get tricot to start using beyond their clean sound. And don't keep using the cheap switches and displays and control knobs that die early. I don't care about plastic, metal or composite. I want the things we stomp on and look at and turn and rotate to stay good for years. And if you're going to offer presets, do end-user testing with solid state amps (katana?), tube amps (fender deluxe reverb) as well as power amps, headphones and USB. And yes, USB 32 bit 192 Khz has been a cheap af standard for years, so yes, put that in next time. Finally, if you're going to leverage SD in the looper why not with "processing". I don't know the architecture, but if you get a 256 GB SD and plug that guy in to get minutes of looping, why not get extra for baf reverbs, and pitch crazy sounds. That is your niche. You guys are/were the best in this in between pro-hobby world. So many south americans and africans love your stuff. Used. The whole MS retweak/hack world is a testament to how great you could be IF someone was connected to the market globally.
