    I’m sure people will appreciate you telling them to buy the lamp separately, I made that mistake myself when buying my V5. Why they don’t include an $80 lamp with a $6k machine is a mystery to me 🤷🏻‍♂️
    Always appreciate your videos, you have helped me tremendously in the last couple of years 🫵🏼🐐

      The lamp is a piece that people have very specific preferences. The reason behind it being that people who spend $5k on a machine that has a very specific single use, will either already have a very nice lamp that will just replace the one in the kit, will quickly buy one to replace the one in the kit, and may be upset they had to spend $200 extra for a lamp they didn't need or want. So in an effort to reduce complaints or problems, and to keep costs down, it wasn't included. However, I feel like the option to buy one to be included in the kit should be available. That just seems like an oversight to me.
      I think it's like if a car manufacturer noticed all of the stereos in their high end cars were almost always replaced, and they said "we'll save you some money and not include a stereo since you were going to probably were going to replace it anyway. To the people who don't already have one, you understand what level of product you're buying, now is when you get to make the choice of what you want."

    Hi Steve. Gee, I noticed what a nice set up you have there with the UT-V5. Currently, I am learning how to cut myself on a V2. It has an old transfer jig and my question is, if I get the new UT 45 degree tabling adapter, will it accept the old transfer jig? I thank you in advance to this silly question.

      Here’s on on North American Lapidary, Gems and Minerals. I'm currently selling my Ultra Tec V2 faceting machine. I'm hoping to sell it and use the proceeds to help fund my upcoming trip to Tucson. It has an updated digital mast and comes with multiple attachments, laps, and some rough.
      It includes a copper polishing lap (plus two 60k grit sticks), a master lap, a transfer block, a table adapter, 7 dops, some YAG for practice material, the water bucket, lamp, and owners manuel with all receipts of repairs on the machine.
      I’m asking $700 shipped

    Good morning from Canada 🇨🇦. I’ve just started following your channel over the past few weeks, very interesting. I’ve been interested in gemmology for most of my life. Quick question how would you recommend to dip their toes into cutting? Where do you start and with what.Thank you very much I’m 54 young and thinking of a new hobby.

      If you don’t know a cutter or have a lapidary club nearby you will need to buy a machine. I recommend the Ultra Tek V5. You will invest around $6500 for the machine and cutting supplies. If for some reason you don’t like it there is a strong resale market for machines. If you do order let them know I sent you. I will get a commission and I will send you some nice rough to start with.

    once I start cutting am I allowed to move the mast backward/forward? or should it stay in place from start to finish? and if I'm allowed to move it, do adjustement have to be made after moving it?

    • @Moregems

      You should be able to move it I do it all the time particularly when polishing . If it causes problems it’s a machine adjustment issue.

    Ok... I am confused why you would ever use a 45 degree angle piece with this machine? can't you just table a gem with the 0 degree reference? Less parts seems to mean less room for error. Setting up a "screw set 45" means having to ensure the down angle isn't kicked forward or backward (the issue I'm having on my current machine tabling). And the cheater would work the same here as anywhere. So why use the extra parts??? Great video, by the way. Thanks for taking me through the machine setup. I don't know why it's so expensive, given that they don't even include a light (I'd expect dishing out 5-6 grand to have a 19th century invention attached). The Mast and DAD seems like it would make any faceting easy (on any machine you could attach it to). The rest... kind of seems like the rest of the machines on the market. Motor. Check. Bucket for water. Check. Flow control. Check.

    • @Moregems
      @Moregems  10 місяців тому

      The 45 does give you more cheat and on occasion I do use it. Only on a high precision machine does this work. The mast needs to be perfectly verticals. I don’t understand the light situation.

    • @Marc030320
      @Marc030320 10 місяців тому

      @@Moregems I was messing with a marble I was cutting after watching these videos and said "well, I can turn my mast around and get about 1 inch over my lap, let's give it a try." My cheater worked fine like this (and my cheater stinks, as I have the second cheapest machine one can buy). In fact, they don't even call it a cheater... but I digress. If you're at 0.01 degrees, you'll be able to cheat it 5x as well as I can even control my height... so it shouldn't be a problem. I was just amazed at how far over the lap the V5 DAD/mast went (nearly five inches, which is where I usually facet). I thought "that is easily far enough to do a table" (you can't get much closer to the spinning nut without hitting it). Also, I thought: AND you don't have to take the dop out! So polishing without resetting the stone is easier! Win Win!
