I always knew Alexi was one of the top notch players but i had no idea his rig is THAT small. An Amp, 3 pedals and a guitar with 1 pickup. It takes huge balls to play with gear like this and he is doing it perfectly, while doing the lead vocals as well. My respect for this guy has risen to the sky!
thats how rumors get started. For the record, it has been well documented that his "rig" was def not small. Some people say he actually used the weight of his "rig" to hold those arrow guitars upright in all those interviews where he would be sitting on a stool but not using his hands to hold the guitar while answering a question.
Started crying watching this, he seemed like such a nice guy, very humble and down to earth. It’s almost as if when he was on stage he became somebody else, he was so wild and badass.
I feel like many Finnish people may not even realize how integral bands like Children of Bodom were for putting Finland on the map for much of the world. If it weren't for Alexi, I might never know the wonders of Suomi perkele. I now know it to be one of the most Metal countries in the world. Thanks to COB I eventually discovered Korpiklaani, Finntroll, Ensiferum, Rotten Sound, Nightwish, Apocalyptica, Lordi, Wintersun, Moonsorrow. Alexi! While I did not grow up with you, I started listening to you in College and even after I had already developed my childhood influences I knew that you were a genius! Rest In Peace!
First heard of CoB when the other guitarist in my high school metal band busted out a copy of Hatebreeder after practice one day. I remember asking “when was this made?” because it sounded like 80’s thrash with synths, and finding out it was only a year or two old really opened my eyes to what these guys overseas were doing at the time. Been a fan for over 22 years now. RIP Alexi!
I always come back to this video just to smile at how geeky they both are just chatting about gear like two teenagers. One of the greatest rundown of this channel

Yeah my amp is a 4 channel amp with 3 different modes per channel, but i use basically only one of them. My guitar has only one EMG Pickup, but it's a passive one. Oh and a gain boost, which is turned on all the time. You just have to love this guy. Alexi 😄👍🏻
Cause the Lee Jackson preamp doesn't have a lot of gain but now even though the JVM has pubescent amounts of gain he's just use to having the boost gain in the guitar. Why didn't he try any of the DSL/TSL Marshalls before?

Less gain and more volume is really the secret to good tone. With too much gain you lose definition and attack. Unfortunately low gain doesn't sound good by yourself or in low volume situations. You really need to crank an amp up no matter if it's a Marshall style or Mesa style amp. The volume fills up the sound and gives you the saturation and sustain that you lack by turning the gain down below 12 o'clock. Treble pickup only also sounds better when you have a full band behind you.
lecorsaire I would have to agree. Blowing out the preamp on any amp that doesn't have a 100lbs primary transformer is going to flatten all the dynamics that are being created by the combination of the nuances of playing and the gain structure of the amp.
