Hey guys, future owner of the guitar here. Just wanted to say that I'm incredibly happy with what Mark has done by building me this absolute dream guitar! Alexi was my personal guitar hero and what/who got me interested in lead guitar in the first place (even though I'm usually a strict rhythm player), so naturally I was absolutely devastated by the news of his death and wanted to honor him and his legacy as much as possible. Got in contact with Mark in early/mid-February and once we figured out exactly what I wanted and what base guitar we needed to turn the vision into reality, the project started. Customer communication was a breeze and Mark was always very open to suggestions down the line, even keeping up with all the nitty-gritty details I kept pestering him with down the line (sorry!).
All in all, I'm super thankful and I can't recommend Marks services enough! No matter whether you're looking for something basic or something more extravagant, he will find a way to pull it off for you.

Hey Mark. With paint bleeding, once you've finished your masking spray the base colour over the tape, or a clear coat. Spraying the base colour (in this case, yellow) it will seal the small air pockets in the masking tape. once it's dried, spray your top coat colour/finish, and it should have a nice sharp edge when the tape is removed. Try on some practice pieces first of course.

A couple things to correct: ALL of his signature models were Rhoads-style Vs. He never had a traditional V shape. Although the USA ESP signature models he had definitely had a little bit of a longer horn compared to the Japanese ones. Stupid copyright laws. He had also been known to use the ESP Eclipse live with The Local Band. Also, COB formed in 1993 as Inearthed. :)
Very well done rebuild! Looks and sounds great!

Tip for clean lines on the bevels my dude: After you've taped off the bevels, spray a coat of the color you've already sprayed before taping (in this case, the yellow) That way, when you spray the 2nd color (in this case, black) over that, the yellow has already bled through the tape onto the prior coat of yellow and creates a "wall" so you don't get the bleed-through of the other color. This is not so easily done on a Frankenstrat style paint job where there are 3 colors, but for dual-color, it works FABULOUSLY.

Hey Mark! I'm not a painter, but I work at a paint department in a hardware store. I was always getting questions about painters tape and paint bleed - among other things. One day, I did a test of my own. I tried out a bunch of different tapes that the store marked down to see what's the best tape. To my surprise, clear masking tape - those small rolls that are less than $1 and come in those plastic dispensers, worked better than any of the others I tested. Now this was water-based paint I was testing, not sure how oil-based will work. But hey, it's food for thought. Cheers!

Now I’m not talking about his signature stealth, there was a guitar he used around the spiritual healing and human tours, I believe it was a axtra guitar?, there’s only pictures of him using it, it looks like the stealth but kinda melty and sharp, seriously I don’t think that guitar made it into the circuit to have them be mass produced but it would seriously be an interesting project for sure

Hey GuitarGuts! About the masking tape thing, try 3M's 218 line. Its really thin and flexible, its used in automotive painting often and comes in several different widths, all the way down to 1/8". It takes a bit more time up front, you'll have to lay your pattern, then re-tape off the rest of the guitar since this stuff doesn't cover much area. But, its much more precise and easier to work with over typical masking/painters tape. Also, for bleed through; once you have your base color down, run your stripes or whatever design you are going for, then lay another thin coat of the base color over the tape and let it dry. This will create a bearer or seal of base color over the tape and will stop the accent color from bleeding into the base coat. Hope this helps!

Use the blue or green tape, but after you get the tape down, use some silicone applied thinly to the edge of the tape so seal in an air tight seal between the wood and the tape! Did this without tape too when painting house trim

Love the direction of the channel this series! Your video structure has been well thought out, very similar to the style of car restoration shows. I think you giving lots of information about the idea behind the project (In this case Alexi) brings a lot to the content, really good to see the research has been done. Keep it up and you will attract more viewers! Also might be worth reaching out to other Guitar UA-camrs to maybe find some collaboration space, maybe do a project for them or have you customize something for a givaway on their channel.
Only thing I would bring up is that if you have the same sponsor for a few videos then you should have a different clip for each (I know its a pain, but people are more likely to skip if its the exact same thing everytime. You could look at a channel like Linus Tech Tips where they read sponsors per shoot.
Anyway keep it up! Support from Scotland

the secret with masking tape (any masking tape) is to microwave it in 5 second bursts until the tape is slightly warm before applying it; its much easier to get it to sit flat and make corner bends repeat the process each time to roll cools, this trick also works for pinstripe lines. In my graphic design program we had to paint scales in gauche paint it was incredibly difficult and we were graded on craftmanship points like clean straight tape lines perfectly creased folds on vellum paper which is basically tissue paper. gauche is a pigment heavy paint that needs to be thinned constantly as it thickens in air paint viscosity is also a key factor in how cleanly the lines pull and how flat the finish sits but i'm sure you know.

You know I love my Gotoh G1996T trems, Gotoh is one of the only companies who consistently make lefty parts, almost as a standard...

just found this channel thankfully. Question could you route out the pull drop D thing just under the area to allow for the later part of the Floyd rose

I’ve got an old, goth black Epiphone SG that I decided to wire active/passive, with the EMG 81 on the bridge and then for the neck, some incredibly fat passive neck pickup that added some weight and tone to any leads I was playing, in those days, I had to wing it, because I couldn’t find a wiring diagram for active/passive, as it seemed like everyone chose either all active like Zakk Wilde or all passive live Dimebag. I’d like a three pickup black beauty with a big baby tremolo featuring two EMG and one DiMarzio. I do not know that such a thing exists, but you would probably be the guy to make it happen! All these years playing mostly active pickups, and these days I couldn’t imagine playing any rhythm without EMG level sustain and clarity.

hey Mark love the episode and the guitar came out killer 🤘🏻🎸, why not do a dime bag Darrell Dean ML tribute guitar, dean makes that model left-handed so I would say make two of them one right handed one left they don’t have to match you can make them two separate design concepts, I’m sure they would sell or be great for the patron giveaway keep up the great work 👍

If you just run a plastic scraper across the mask edge applying slight pressure it will solve any bleeding issues with the green 3m
