My wife actually had a melt down and started crying at the range because it was too much for her. I have a military background so I am very direct and commanding when it comes to safety and firearms, and unfortunately talking to my wife like a Marine doesn't work. Great video and thank you for some tips from your perspective.

My wife did not like guns when we met, but I talked about them right away. Long before I met my wife I had once been set up on a blind date with a lady who I found out had been shoot by a boyfriend. That did not go well. After that I made it a point to bring up guns early. When my wife and I got serious I made it clear that I come with weapons and I am not giving them up. It's not negotiable. She accepted that but it took years for her to really get comfortable with them and eventually to like guns. Throughout our relationship and marriage I have been very open about guns. I refused to hide them or keep them out of her sight. I refused to treat them as if they were not just a normal everyday objects. I insisted that she learn about guns and learn to operate guns for her own safety and the safety of others since guns would be around. After a few years she got a handgun for her own self defense. Then decided that it was not quite suitable and got another. Now she has her eye on a 3rd that she thinks will be more suitable. I have not tried to tell her what is best for her or what she should get. I have tried to give good general advice, and if it isn't heeded then I step back and let her make her mistakes. Although really, adding another gun to our collection is never a mistake ;)

truecrimson1 that’s beautiful, thanks for sharing you and your wife’s story! I was blessed with an amazing woman and we got into guns together after about 8 years being married. I’m more into it than her of course, but she’s gradually getting more and more into it and wanting to go to the range with me and dry fire and everything and I absolutely love it. It’s fun and a great skill to have that could one day save our family or a friend or innocent stranger. And we’re getting into all the things that go with preparedness like medical and survival training and skills, and it’s all just so much fun. I am so happy for you and your wife. God bless you.

Its because of your channel that I personally feel more comfortable and less intimidated with guns. I gained the basic knowledge from watching your videos and felt comfortable to go to a gun store by myself and hold 20+ hand guns to find the right one. I purchased my first gun (kimber micro 9 esv) and signed up for some gun safety classes and will eventually carry. I want to thank you and your boyfriend both for putting up great content, you both truly helped and inspired me! Please continue doing what you're doing!

After 13 years of my husband trying to tell me why I should learn, I am more opened to learning. All these years, I was against having one, though not against him having one. Recently, he bought an M22 ISSC Omni, and because it is a larger gun with smaller ammo, I found it very easy to use at the range, because there was barely any recoil. He presented to me like this. "I bought this so you can try, if you want to, but if you don't want it, my mom would want it. So, there is no pressure. If you want to try it, we'll go to the range. It's up to you." Of course, he did all of the transporting it and loading it, at first. He cleaned it. Now, as I'm seeing the crap happening in the world right now, I have decided to get my permit and a smaller one that I can cc. I'm still working on it, and in the meantime am watching all the videos in this channel that I can manage to watch. Your information is invaluable to someone like me. I will be taking classes and further training.

@@davidbladen5667in my experience helping many women learn how to shoot it’s more about approach / technique than your biology. Women most often want things less confrontational, hard core, at least at first. They want to go at a pace they are comfortable with, usual slower. But once they start feeling a sense of accomplishment and are having fun also they often speed up rapidly.

One night the wife (completely against firearms) and I had a discussion about crime. I asked, "What would you like me to do if a burglar breaks in?" She said, "You're a back belt." I said "Fair enough, now how will my martial arts work if he is armed and 20 feet away?" She said, "I guess you need a firearm." That was step one, agreement. But I could tell she was still apprehensive so I didn't push it. One day, on a camping trip, our nephew happened to bring his Sig. I was able to talk her into pulling off one round while I stood by making sure everyone was safe. She shot and hit her target...AND LOVED IT! That was step two. In two weeks she was the owner of a Ruger .380 (Purple, her favorite color). Step three. And the third week she took a class with girlfriends taught by a female instructor. Step four. It was awesome to see her enjoy something she never thought was something she would do. It's about logical baby steps. Thanks for the video.

About 10 years ago, I had moved into a duplex. The other tenant was a single 19 year woman. She ended up coming over just to hang out. I was in LE at the time & told her I obviously have guns around & could tell she was a little freaked out by them. Her main issue was ignorance on the subject & nobody ever really showed her. I started by explaining & showing her different calibers from the .22 to the .45. I touched a little on rifle & shotguns. She agreed to go shooting. I shot each weapon a couple times before her, just to show her what to expect. She shot my .22 pistol & wanted to try my .45. I only loaded 1 round in the .45 just in case & told her why. The .45 was a bit much for her. She then wanted to shoot my Mini 14. She LOVED shooting that. She now enjoys recreational shooting. All she needed was someone to take their time to explain & show her firearms. Don't be condescending & don't try to make a new shooter, especially female, shoot too much gun.

My husband bought a revolver for me 4 years ago. I myself, never grew up with a family that shot guns so, it was very foreign to me. The first time I shot the revolver it scared me so bad I cried and was shaking. 4 years later my husband bought us both a Sig. We are going to celebrate our 25th anniversary this weekend and we are taking a class to learn how to shoot to celebrate. A Sig is definitely less intimidating and I have no trouble shooting with it. I love these videos because you both teach so well and are very informative.

I'm a single man who's new to shooting and absolutely in love with firearms already. But it dawned on me fairly quickly that it's a topic I won't be able to shy away from in my dating life, and I plan to inform my future dates early on that I take self-defense and gun ownership seriously. I'm actually excited though, because it also dawned on me fairly quickly that there are A LOT of women in the world who like to shoot, and the ones who do like to shoot seem to share my views on most topics. So I'm actually going to see if I can ask out a lady who already shoots (even better if she's a better and more experienced shooter than me!)

Thanks for this, Stav! I've been a subscriber for awhile but never saw this video, probably because it's older. I was TERRIFIED of the gun I bought in 2020 (thought the gun and the ammo would somehow get together on my way home from the store, load itself and fire). I was terrified for a long time after that--so scared I'd have an accident or do something awful. I did join a women's gun group and found myself driving an hour each way to shoot maybe five rounds, and I NEVER felt really comfortable there. It helped a lot when my son took me shooting--he could watch what I did and correct me, gently, so I began to feel better. I even got my CWP, a truly proud moment for me. And I used YOUR video to teach me how to clean my gun properly!
Then I had a spell of not shooting for about 18 months--I just felt too hassled and scared to do it. When I DID go back, about 2 months ago, for the first time in all that time, suddenly EVERYTHING was fine. It was a new range (to us), my son was with me, I felt totally comfortable with what I was doing, I wasn't afraid at all, and when we went back to the same range last weekend, I was hitting the bull's eye most of the time (despite the heat fogging up my shooting glasses so I could hardly see). I agree with most of your points, I'm just saying some didn't work for me. (I actually PREFER instruction with a male, over a female.) I needed to walk away from shooting for awhile and then come back to it--and when I did, suddenly everything was fine. Not sure why, but couldn't be happier about it, and in my renewed interest in shooting!

Great advice about letting the woman choose the gun. A few years ago, my DH decided it was time for me to get a gun and I was good with that. He already had a gun in mind, a S&W .380. He took me to the gun store and we ended up buying it, even though it really wasn't what I wanted. I took a basic class and then a CCL class. I was never happy with the gun, so I never really did anything with it. I shot my instructor's Glock 9mm and really liked it, although I knew it wasn't really a practical solution for me. A couple of weeks ago, I came across a Taurus G2C and after watching some videos and reviews, ended up buying one. I love it! I'm trying to renew my skills and learning all kinds of new things I didn't know I was interested in. Thanks for putting out quality content! I've always said I believe it's even more important for women to carry than it is for men because women are victimized far more often than men are. And that's purely because criminals see women as easier targets. A 200lb guy with the glock T shirt and tactical pants probably isnt going to have someone trying to attack him under most circumstances. But the 110lb girl all by herself on her walk home? Yeah. Criminals are opportunistic. But if that little 110lb girl suddenly produces a 9mm, well all of a sudden her attacker is going to be reconsidering his life choices. I am lucky enough that my girlfriend was already into firearms when we met. We even have little friendly competitions when we go shooting. But videos like this one are so important because men tend to not make good decisions when it comes to involving their female counterparts in firearms. Another really informative video. Great job.

The idea about "BB guns" is a pretty good suggestion, especially for Sig Sauer users as you can get the P365 and P320 in pellet pistols. They're great for practicing and backyard plinking. I also wear my real P365 a lot and demonstrate how safe I am with it. She now just views my holster and firearm as clothing. Also, when your spouse sees your proficiency at the range, it triggers their primal desire to be protected.

I took my petite skinny blonde sister to an indoors range for her birthday. She had never held a gun or even heard one being shot before. She kept flinching on every single shot that was fired. Our instructor even gave her tighter ear protection in hopes that it would help (it didn't). Our goal was to try as many guns as possible so we worked our way up starting from Glock 19. After firing several pistols she was still flinching when people around us took shots. We finally worked our way up to .454 Casull (Taurus Raging Bull). The instructor suggested to skip this one but my sister wanted to try. I went first and then it was her turn. We only took 2 shots each. That was all it took to get rid of her fear/flinch and relax. It even helped with her posture. Instead of leaning back she started to lean forward, bend her knees and widen the stance. The rest of the session went super smooth. So, if air guns don't help a woman in your life to relax around guns, try the opposite approach. Maybe the biggest and "baddest" gun (that she can handle) will do the trick :)

Over 30 years ago I had a friend who was very antigun. She knew I shot metallic silhouette. After I showed her my rifle and revolver and made her comfortable around them I took her to a competition. After seeing and meeting my friends AND their families there she started to rethink her attitude. In the end she became my spotter. Time and being around the right people works wonders.

I know a woman who has a S&W .327 Federal Magnum revolver (J frame). She tried a .38 Special but it hurt her hand. The nice thing about the S&W .327 FM is that it can shoot 4 different cartridges. She likes the S&W 32 Long cartridge for practice. She keeps H&R Magnums in the revolver for protection, but the gun will shoot the more powerful .327 FM.

My wife was deathly afraid of guns in general. She has 4 brothers that hunted and didn't understand guns. I bought a SR Ruger 22 and kept it in a safe. We were talking about guns and I noticed that she had no understanding of guns and half believed that guns would go off by themselves. I got her to consent to a pistol course. I had already taken one but, I told her that I would take it with her. When we introduced ourselves , I told him that this is my wife and she came partially against her will. (I was joking) The instructors did an amazing job at explaining guns, showing her the correct way to handle, load and shoot guns. My son and I both have guns and she's O.K. with it now. I'm able to clean my guns at the table with her being there and her not being nervous about it. My hat's off to the instructors who did an amazing job. I'm pretty sure that if push comes to shove, she could defend herself, if I'm not there. Hope this story helps! Thanks for the videos!!

    Great advice.
My oldest sister has always hated any form of firearms. On the other hand, my dad started me off with a 7.65 at 10 years old, seeing the rifle doesn't count and I flew over the ground many years before that. My work weapons have me gravitate towards a 9mm pistol, or an assault rifle on rare occasions when there are threats. So, super comfortable, and now shotguns are the easy to control.
Back to my sister. Her husband at that time passed away, and while I was at work, some unknown guy with a hoody entered her house and started taking things in her kitchen, where the knives are kept. Lucky for me, we are next door neighbors, with a gate between the two yards. Because she never wanted to look at self defense, I forced her to take my baby with her and had her sleep over for a week or so before this incident. She screamed when she realized it wasn't me, and my baby pushed her out of the way as she came charging through, braking and attacking the intruder to safeguard my sister.
Inadvertently, because our gun laws are different here in South Africa, and the process to purchase a firearm, is months, sometimes longer. I got her a smallish (pocket size 7.65 cz browny replica) gas gun with metal pellets capabilities, shooting at a skin piercing rate/force. Got the basics of shooting down, and had her going at about 7.5m (25feet) (yards unknown, as I can do inches, miles and feet conversions in my head) on a 4x4 inch target. Got her Breathing, grip, and trigger pull down, and she got her target in sight. Crappy thing, that same evening, the guy returns, and I didn't start the tactical handling yet, just the get comfortable with it on you and to shoot it. Another night shift, and she used the has gun to control the situation hitting her moving target, which I didn't teach her at that point, till my baby once again chased the assailant away.
For an anti weapons girl, to take even just a gas gun, that feels like the real firearm, as it was identical in feel, size and design to the firearm my dad taught me and my other two siblings on (slightly older sister and older brother).
Where I differ with you, I want a little 38Spl snubby, as my full size 9mm service pistol I can comfortably conceal with certain clothes, and I'm dressing more girly now then back when I just joined the force over 15 years ago. Where a Beretta a mod 92FS was heavy and satisfying to carry, to where a Beretta PX4 Storm (polymer was a big no no for me) became a reliable and comfortable service pistol. I just want is an all steel 38Spl double/single action handgun, as I don't like striker fired or internal hammers, I'm comfortable and feel secure with them as firearms, will recommend them to other people. But I'm old school with pistols and revolvers.

Enjoy your time in Fl, we're on the other side a bit farther North. Love the channel, and you really contribute to the other great women led channels out there. You guys make a great team. Also, if I may add something- that is don't push the sig other too hard and keep it fun, and guys find a channel like this to get the wife to watch. My wife for years told me she would rather die than take another life, I couldn't understand it. That changed after we had a son. Now she is asking me to take her out. Give it time, and don't be afraid to give the training reins to someone else, a third party. I've been an instructor for many years, firearms included, and sometimes the teacher and student are on different wavelengths. Start with basic terminology, safety always, and the right gun for her is the one that she will carry, can be safe with and can shoot and build confidence with. The full size sig left in a drawer may not be the answer. Make a friend like me who will let you borrow 4-5 pistols, revolvers to try out for a few days.

My fiancee was extremely anti-gun. I waited until we dated a bit and then one day I put on a gun debate with Steven Crowder while she was in the shower. When she got out and joined me in the living room I asked if I could keep it on while she was drying her hair and we'll start our movie after. She was cool with it and sat listening to the debate with me while she dried her hair, not having any idea at all that it was setup. She told me there were points she had never considered before and asked me to put on another debate, so I put one on by Ben Shapiro. We went down a rabbit hole and a few months later she told me she didn't want to live in a house without a firearm and she has since joined the NRA.

My husband first introduced me to firearms by spending hours and hours at home using dummy rounds going through firearm operations, reloads, parts of a firearm, types of malfunctions and how to fix them, etc on every type of firearm he owns so that by the time I shot the first rounds at an actual range I was super familiar with how the gun felt in my hand and what it was going to do and the only new aspect was the sound and recoil. A few years later and I may own more than he does now and participate in competitions and ask to go to the range more than him

This is very helpful. For me with my lady it took 7 months of us being together before she went shooting with me and she has handled my gun before but very nervously and she has talked about wanting to try shooting it but she always gets too nervous. I did the whole talking with her thing to explain about why guns aren't dangerous and why they are useful tools in the right hands and alot of fun and that helped. I'm just thankful that she is ok with me having a gun and shooting because with some women it would be a deal breaker. Some ppl are just so rabidly anti gun and it seems like it's more women than men and especially in the southern New England and New York and New Jersey areas and the West coast. I grew up in WV which is a very pro gun state but live now in MA and it's shocking how anti gun it is in this state

But just to let you know I tried that with my CZ SP01 Shadow and it did not eject the chopstick (wooden BBQ skewer actually) during the trigger pull. 1) Let her get acquainted with one gun at a time - then, when comfortable, add on- don’t overwhelm at first (my husband did that to me as he was over excited for me to be involved, and I was happy to be there but it brought on some anxiety as they all were very different and for learning purposes I couldn’t remember all the details about each gun when going back to shoot again)
    2) Don’t start with a gun that has a huge kick - start small and let her move up at her own pace (don’t show off and scare her!)
    3) Limit the time- those first couple times out I was beyond overwhelmed as we were out for hours - maybe an 1- 1 1/2 hours would be plenty enough time for first goers.
    4) Last- make sure she’s dressed correctly and even bring a hair clip- I wore the wrong shoes, clothes, I was freezing, it was a disastrous first trip for me- and I was really trying to learn.
Since then, I’ve learned the ropes, got my Ccw and go target shooting with my husband once a week- it just took some adjusting. 😀
