Lawn Soil PH

- Testing soil PH in your lawn is not hard, but to have a healthy lawn your soil PH needs to be regulated or your grass can not get the needed nutrients. See more info here: bit.ly/2UGZHeF
Soil pH is especially important because it enables a plant’s ability for nutrient uptake. If all of the nutrients a plant needs are available and the pH is off, it can’t pick up those essential ions. Soil pH affects nutrient absorption in soil. That’s why we’re outlining a basic understanding of what pH is and how it can affect your lawn. - Навчання та стиль
So I've been watching all your videos learning everything I can to perfect my yard, i installed a irrigation system and feel its going to waste... so my solution is to become your neighbor and just have you do it
great channel... i learned so much...thank you, for all your effort....it shows in your content!
My bad doc! I’ve been watching your videos for a couple weeks now and I just subscribed.
Your video and article don't explain what to do when you have very alkaline clay soil like in Phoenix, Arizona. I've heard of adding gypsum, sulphur or even just compost to increase acidity but I'm not sure what is best. Suggestions?
Doc, when I first moved to GA didn’t know much about lawns or what I was doing, because it wasn’t getting thick. I went out and purchased lime every year and put it down, thinking I was doing good by my lawn. My front yard has a ph level of 7, 7.5 and 8, I haven’t tested the back lawn yet. I purchased several soil test kits, but I better send my soil to the extension office. I think you said Bermuda loves a 6.5 ph level, so I googled and it stated put sulfur down if my ph level is too high. I hired a lawn company thinking it would thicken my lawn, which hasn’t happened, so I ordered princess 77 Bermuda seeds and I plan to over-seed about mid June after the pre emergent is gone. I’m explaining because you said don’t over-seed Bermuda, but I’ve been in this house since 2012 and my lawn isn’t thick and never has been. I’m frustrated!!
Would love to get a tour of your backyard and the natural areas you have created and what plants you planted. I would love to get more info on designing these areas.
Doc thank you for all your good lawn info. I bought the ph meter , the lawn was low on ph so I bought a few bags of limestone. The question I have is how long you have to wait to recheck the ph level after you have put limestone on your grass ?
Doc, THANKS!! I have beautiful Centipede lawn in central NC. My PH is about 6.8. Can you suggest a best way to lower PH. Thanks and keep the videos coming!! BTW, I have FIVE neighbors starting to use your program on their Bermuda.
Another good video Doc. I follow you even though I have a tall fescue lawn and will be murdering the Bermuda infiltrators with Pylex in May. I have 5 bags of Humic DG and 5 bags of Barricade DG ready to put down in Randallstown Md once the ground temps warm up. Is it possible for Anderson's to make the new fertilizer in the 40lb bags also? It's easier for us guys with bigger lawns instead of buying 10 18lb bags to cover 50,000 sq ft I can purchase 5 40lb bags like the Humic and Barricade.
Hello what if ur water has a high ph like a ph 8 ?
Are these pet safe? Is there a time frame to keep my dogs off the application? My previous products said "after dust has settled". Thanks Doc, great content!
I just got one of these based on your recommendation. Do you use the conditioning paper in between measurements? The instructions allude to it but is it really necessary?
Can you make a big batch and use it over time or does it have to be fresh every time? Wondering if it loses some properties over time if left to sit.
Great video Doc 😁👍👍
Doc
Where can i find your product links for the tea bucket and the strainer
How does Super Juice effect plants? Is it good for them too? Any plants it should get on?
Hey Doc how you doing? So I did my spring scalp I laid down my pre emergent and granular fertilizer followed by my first treatment of super juice 3 days ago. What can I do to keep pushing my Bermuda grass? Thank you for your awesome videos your wealth of knowledge.
So you use lime to bring the ph up? How much you add at a time?
Anyone looking at this. Want fast acting lime go to a brick yard buy bags of “hydrated lime. But pelatized lime acts continuously while fast acting gets you on target in days. But like the man said dont go too fast moving the ph.
Where's the link to the PH tester???
Your dog is awesome. Also your yard is the size of a football field. I can't find the link to the PH tester in the description??
When will superjuice be available again?
How would I go about putting this out with a sprayer? Or is it just easier with the hose?
need some self propelled spreaders I have a incline and it kicks my butt pushing a 100lbs around and up hill.
Excellent topic.
Thanks
Range for St. Augustine? Thanks!
What about lowering ph. Increasing is easy
Where can I get that meter?
Interesting content as always. Last summer, I tried to seed
my lawn with Scotts gold glove Bermuda, it came out patchy. Is this because of
the seed itself, it just hasn't spread. Still got more lawn to seed. So was
wondering if I should get something else or continue with it. Any suggestions
would be helpful. Also will you be doing a seeding video in the future? thx.
It's tough to seed Bermuda. You have to till and water a lot. Then it's still a hope and pray.
Hey Doc. I am new to your programs and videos. So much to learn. I have a question for you, can you use super juice on a fresh lawn?
It's very mild so you can apply to anything. New sod, new seed, etc.
Hey Doc, so I just bought the Humic DG soil conditioner you recommend. How should I use that product compared to these products in this vid? Or should I return what I have?
Humic simply adds "carbon" to the soil. It improves the soil and really does nothing else. Put it down anytime.
My soil test came back low at 5, but calcuim levels are extremely high.. and I know lime is good for that kind of issue. I'm confused.. can i still apply lime?
What's a good Spray
Hi Doc,
I overseeded last fall, can I still put down a pre emergent and or a fertilizer, this spring?
Hmmm.... the PE might restrict some root growth, but then you have to worry about weeds all year. I'll leave that call to you. As far as fertilizer, no worries.
Can you do a video on how you keep Bermuda out of the flower beds and how you edge your beds?
Yes, it's a pain. but I usually put grass killer (old round up) in a spray bottle and mist the growth carefully in the garden. Or... get a rag and wipe the grass when it shows.
@ Kaily Frugard I have had good luck with monkey grass. It works great as a border. Keeps bermuda at bay . Probaly due to how shady it gets underaneath
Are u against humic acid?
What do you think about using Milky Spores for grub control? Is it too early to put it down? Moles are driving me crazy!
The new doucide will be out in a few weeks. That should cure them. I'll be doing a video.
Would like a follow up in a month or so to see how much of an impact the lime had on the soil..thanks
Will do. Me too.
need to find out where you bought the ph tester from
www.howtowithdoc.com/lawn-soil-ph-testing-and-treatments/
Hey Doc, Does the LaMotte Garden Kit give you the same test results as the Kelway meter? I can only afford to purchase one. If you had to purchase just one, which one would you buy?
If you are a patient person... then go with the LaMotte. Yes, the results were close.
How To with Doc Thank you
Whoa. You said in later videos (April 2019) that you've only used Super Juice on your lawn (and you say it here at 25:00 ). So naturally, I'm confused.
What is the LaMotte kit number? Model EL 5679-01 ? The links on your page are not working. Thank you in advance.
Do you have a chart showing how much liquid Calcium to apply? A chart similar to the ones the granular products have? As an example: Pounds of Limestone Needed to Raise pH (per 1,000 Square Feet) from 5.5 to 6.5 in Clay Soil is 100 lbs (80 lbs for Loam; 30 lbs for Sand)
The more expensive pH tester leaves a big hole though. Isn't that a headache for using it?
Does your videos relate to fescue?
There is a ph range for fescue on the page.
So you're putting super juice down before it rains? I though you said not to do that.
There's almost no foliage... so it really doesn't matter. Also, the majority of foliar uptake is done within the first 6 hours and the rain was not coming in until later that night.
@@HowTowithDoc Haha. I was going to ask how you expect to lower your pH by mixing calcium in a "foliar application" but I forgot you have no foliage. Good video.
That's a nice pH meter but it wouldn't work in my yard! Mine ranges from 8.1 to 8.3. It will take 5-6 years of maximum (10#/1000SF/yr) sulfur treatments to get the pH down to the good range for Bermuda. If your pH is already adequate, or low, consider yourselves lucky!
Wow thats crazy! What area are you located in?
The cheapy PH tester you've shown and was reading over 7, don't you have to calibrate it before use?
Nope... stick into soil and get reading.. then throw away. FYI... I bought 2 of them just to make sure. I thought one was broken.
Yep phosphorus is High, yes I use milo yes I am concerned my ph is 5.2
That dog 9:50
Where can I find Dimension? Not seeing on Amazon.
Sorry, asked before end of video. Found what I need, thanks Doc!
Doc, my average soil ph is 7.5. Should still use lawn lime or would I use a different product to lower my ph?
Lime RAISES ph....
Your wife will be mad you are using her tea pitcher to mix your super juice. lol
Dangit! I bought one of those cheap ones from AliExpress and should have known when literally nothing was moving the needle. Guess I'll just default to my original plan and send a sample into the local extension office.
👍👍
Doc i need you help i got my soil test and i need your help to lower my ph can email u my soil test so u can see and tell me what i need pleaseeeeeeee
Your clocks are not in sync... Spray it with super juice! :D
Doc,
You're using a liquid measuring cup to measure dry ingredients. That wont give you the right amount of material. The dry ingredients cup and wet ingredients cups are a little different. Just want to help out the community!
B
The only time I measure "dry" is really the super juice and there is no need for "total" accuracy.
@@HowTowithDoc Good to know! I didnt want to over do it! Thanks for getting back to me!
Doc the Mad Scientist lol
Link is dead doc
Thanks... think we got it fixed now.
How To with Doc just ordered using links thanks doc
