    Just finished up replacing both hot and cold seats, springs and cartridges. Hats off to Delta for having their replacement parts Made In The USA. Parts were free but took a while to get here. Hit a few snags, the seat on the hot side didn't want to come up, was stuck down, finally got it. Also getting the spring and seat back in took me many tries, it's winter so figured the rubber might work better if I warmed it under kitchen faucet a little(don't lose down drain). That seemed to help both hot and cold seats go in easier. Lastly, I ran into trouble with cold water side metal nut, whole assembly turned when I tried to take it off. Had to go under the sink and tighten the two screws that were supposed to hold it tight, once I did that, it came off fine. Thanks for showing how to do it and for showing the little screw up at end, think we all can relate.

    Thanks. Worked just as you described. BTW: I called Delta’s 1-800 number because the owner’s manual that came with the faucet states, “All parts… of the Delta faucet are warranted to the original consumer purchaser… as long as the original purchaser owns his home.” As a result, Delta mailed to me, free of charge & shipping costs, all new seats, springs, and stems for the faucet.

    Just reaching out and saying thanks for posting this video. Was pretty easy except the old little white cylinder did not want to go back in with new springs.
    Just my experience below.
    I tried a few times nothing so I called them nothing. The rep said my faucet was discontinued couldn't help. Other option was to buy a new faucet( well i need 4 and they are not cheap) or try the hardware store for parts or they sold them online for $30-$40. He also directed me to UA-cam and Google to find the answer (young kid).
    So I stayed silent and waited until he was panicking if I hung up. I asked him to review warranty for Delta, as original owner these are to be replaced for free from delta directly.
    He eventually gave up and would send me three since I was going to home depot to get parts for the one I was working on.
    Basically be persistent, they offer free parts to fix of it can wait. Don't turn away and say ok after the 1st no.
    This video was great thanks.

    Very Helpful. By far the most straight forward approach to replacing the seats and springs, including the tools best for the job and how to use them. Nice Job. My sink was a Peerless brand (Delta) but same process worked, seat and spring. Thanks!

  • @kmariebox1

    Some people may not know this either:
    There is a specific way the seat & spring must be seated.
    When you go to put them in, the easiest way to do so, is by threading the Allen Wrench through THE FLAT END of the seat & then through the SMALL/SKINNY END of the spring... Hold them on the wrench and then tip them into the hole in the valve- You don't want either of those two parts going in the wrong way (upside down). Great video though & thanks ;)

      Most times with plumbing issues people want to fix them right away so the fact that Delta supposedly mails free replacement seals doesn't really help, does it. Plumbing, like heating, is a serious thing. That's why there are HVAC and plumbers on 24 hour call in many areas.

    • @thorsky2754
      @thorsky2754 6 років тому

      If only that were true. I've got 16 Handles in this in this house that need cartridges. while I'm not the original owner, they are original to the house and they're all failing over the last month. I've gone through eight so far. I had to talk to Delta for half an hour just to get them to Goodwill me out 2. I'm now flushing all the lines and replacing them along with the spring and gasket but to me something that can fail this easily is a design flaw, not just 1 or 2. I still think I'll be switching out to a different brand with ceramic cartridges next time.

      If it's a fast leak you might be better off buying it yourself, it took several emails and over a week for parts to come. It was December, I'll give them that, but still might be not worth it as far as saving a few dollars, when you can just go to Lowe's and buy it.

    • @jimwatchyyc

      I went to Home Depot with a copy of the receipt only, no old parts. The cartridge in my case. They gave me a new cartridge and just asked that I return the old one. Probably not standard practice I imagine, but having the receipt may have been why.

    Great video. Warning to others some complete kits(with all the valve parts, not just spring and seal) as sold by a lot of hardware stores come with the right cartridge mechanism but wrong spring(narrow straight side vs tapered wide base) and spring seal(too tall won't let the cartridge compress it) and may include some mystery tubular plastic bit with no instructions or super generic instructions that don't cover all the actual parts in the box.

    Please take no offense. When he removes the "silver ring" he uses the channel locks in the wrong direction. There is right way. Not a big deal, but useful. if using "channel locks" the improper way while trying to get a very tight...nut lose, you could slip off and damage something or yourself.

  • @ninemilliondollars

    The video was good. A couple of additional comments, however. There should be an O-Ring gasket on the cartridge. Now is the time to replace that as well. Also I found there is a product - "Faucet and Valve Waterproof Grease" - at my local home improvement store. You can spread some of it on the seat as well as the O-Ring to provide for a tighter fit, yet allow more of a free smoother movement, and last longer. Finally, I changed both faucets since I already had the tools and all at hand and the water off. BTW, on the Delta faucets with the little plastic stops preventing the handle from turning more than only so far, that helps the seats and gaskets last longer. On other faucets, the handle can be overturned and eventually split and tear the rubber seat. So Delta is a better product.

    I have a different model, but was concerned as to how to safely remove the old cartridge without damaging anything important. Your video was very helpful, especially because I had no idea why they sent these little rubber seats with springs. A different model, but it works the same.

    Excellent. The only difference I'd make is use a crescent wrench instead of channel locks and BE Gentle! Channel locks are only slightly easier to use, but can mess up the bonnet nut. NOTE: None of this stuff does well when overtightened. The bonnet nut is aluminum and as such will distort if over tightened, the O ring can be damaged, and it isn't going to do the base of the cartridge, seat, or spring any good either.

    • @davidsmyle6262
      @davidsmyle6262 2 роки тому

      I might suggest getting a second wrench to hold the rest of the faucet assembly while you try to unscrew the silver ring. Wrap a cloth around the assembly so you don't damage it with the second wrench. You may also need a second set of hands to may hold the faucet assembly from underneath the sink if the aforementioned doesn't work. You should probably take out the two plastic pieces first before trying to hold the upper assembly with a wrench. Just take a photo of it before you take out the plastic pieces so you remember where they were.

      sometimes the sink valves are crusty and old and should be replaced, same for the main shutoff to the house, sometimes you have to go to the utility valve at the street and shut everything off, even then you can get a trickle of water, leave the hose closest to the main house valve open in that case, I work on renovating old houses all the time and this is what I do when replacing interior plumbing fixtures.
