@Jonas Jonaitis Exactly bro. Did you know the AMG E55 was also very fast as i saw one video done in a closed course where the driver took his E55 AMG to 198mph. Which back then no one saw it coming.
@Jonas Jonaitis Actually the M156 is widely considered less reliable than the M113, and the heat soaking issues with the M113 are easily fixed. While not being any faster in the real world (slower actually when you consider mods). The gearbox is better..when it works. The old 5G is outdated and slow but it is also more reliable.
@Jonas Jonaitis It's slightly faster in all out acceleration, by an insignificant margin (like 0.2 seconds faster to 60). It's an easily verified fact, the difference is so small that in many tests it's actually slower. Outside the race track or the Autobah, on normal roads where you'll spend 90% of your time under 3000rpm, the 55 is faster. It's 700Nm of torque at like 2600rpm vs 630Nm at 5000+, there is no comparison in terms of the instant in gear shove from low down. Also you can get very little extra power out of the 63 without spending a lot of money, a pulley and map on a 55 will cost well under a grand and will take it to well over 550hp and 800Nm, with an upgraded intercooler and exhaust you can break 600hp/900Nm no sweat. The M113K is a monster just waiting to be unleashed, you'll spend 5 grand on the M156 on intake and exhaust mods before it breaks 550. Those extra 800cc just can't make up for losing the supercharger. And the 7G is reliable-ish. I wouldn't call it very reliable, there are plenty of MB owners out there with complaints. It's not terrible, but it's not as reliable as the 5G.
@Jonas Jonaitis You're arguing like a 13 year old kid now so this is pointless. Now there's "E55" fanboys? There's people who fanboy not just on a specific brand, but one specific model of a specific brand with a specific engine? Do you really believe what you're saying? Do you think the E55 is the only MB I like? Grow up. I said the 63 is slightly faster outright. This will be in 0-60, 0-100, 0-150, 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, top speed, you name it, it's all the same test just ran for different periods of time. When you're cruising at 60mph in last gear and put your foot down it's not faster. There are even examples of several MBs (remember the E was not the only "55" that was replaced with a "63", MB used these engines across the range) where the 55 was even faster around tracks - that midrange torque coming out of slow corners really helps you know. And as I mentioned, but you don't seem to want to address, there is a small difference in outright performance in favour of the 63 when you compare them stock to stock. When you compare them in a lightly modified state there is huge difference in outright performance in favour of the 55. You may not like it, because you, being an E63 fanboy, can't accept it, but this is the truth. See what I did there?
I have a 07 E63AMG, absolute hammer of an Engine this M156 is, love it! and since Mercedes will discontinue all V8 engines in 2022, i have decided not to sell it.
@@streetdreamzgarage7170 For now it's not. Still enjoying it. You'll find one. Just make sure its clean. Check to see if the air bags been replaced. I had to replace my front airbags and front rotors and brake pads. All ran me $2k. Bought parts off of FCP Euro. Good luck!
Your cars look gorgeous. I had a 2004 E55 and sold it when it came out of extended warranty. I miss it everyday!...I also cross shopped the CLK 63 against the M6 as I wanted a 4 seat convertible. I ended up with the M6 just because the back seats were slightly larger. I like the CLK though. The M6's V10 was addicting as hell to be honest.
I took my friends 2007 clk 63 cabriolet to New England drag way and ran a 12.1, and then an 11.9 at 119.98 mph. It was the same color and looked exactly like this one. It was totally stock. It was 37 degrees out that night. I warmed up the tires a little bit and got a 1.8 60 foot and got an amazing run! That track is 60 feet above sea level and the engine clearly loved the cold dry temps. :)
Nice. Per dollar though, that E55 will make more power when modded. I loved my modded M156 but if I were making a car for the strip, an M113k would be easier to make faster.
Don't forget the fact that Car & Driver measures acceleration with Roll-Out method. To calculate the real time, you have to add about 0.3 second to both 0-60 mph and 1/4 mile times. For example, 4.2 s 0-60 mph for CLK63 with Roll-Out = 4.5 s real 0-60 mph without Roll-Out.
Looking and the RPM and listening to the gear change, I would say with a slight tweak to the transmission the E55 could come out on top. One more Great video from the Master of AMG
Anything that gets to 60 mph in under 8 seconds is fast, anything under 5 is very fast, under 3 is obscenely fast. It's easy to get a distorted view with cars sub 3 seconds, but honestly you get used to any level of power eventually after driving it for a few months, so who cares? There's things far more important than performance in a road car. It's just nice to have something that is faster than 99% of the other twats on the road so you can over take them quickly.
Beautiful cars, doesn't matter what this speed test is, they are cruisers designed to be enjoyed. The attention to detail and design in what I love, the amount of thought and effort gone into these beautiful machines. 0-100 is not high on my list of impressive features. I still think these models are some of the best designed by Mercedes.
I own an old W203 german edition. 2 liters Kompressor. I changed the head gasket like 1 week ago and I was surprised to see how low whear was to the engine. May be hard to believe but is not eating oil at all and runs as in the first day. Is not an amg but the quality is crazy.
My 2003 c240 still impresses me. My friends got newer Audi's and BMW's and my car still keeps up perfectly fine and never has any major issues even with 134k miles. It's not an AMG but I love that thing
Yes, the 240 has a great sound but the gas mileage is not that good. I like my clk 200. It has enough power for normal driving and the gas mileage is way better. Only the timing chain problems are just 🤮
The numbers on paper were probably done on a drag strip which is much stickier so if you had the traction you'd get those numbers or even better honestly
I'm not sure, but the magazines tested the 0-60 with roll out, so the time is lower if so. 4,54 seconds is just a great time with such a heavy rwd car.
The 2022 Golf R is quite impressive, showing the advantages of all wheel drive and launch control to get off the line better. However, the trap speeds in the 1/4 are about 5mph slower for the Golf R, so these AMGs pull well ahead in a longer race.
Yes, I have it set to measure actual 0-60. So it makes sense that I am getting 4.5 seconds 0-60 while C&D is showing 4.2 seconds in their test. From their website - 'we typically subtract 0.3 seconds of rollout from the acceleration figures'
that e55 never gets old, flawless desing, bulletproof engine, just amaizing

I rest my case. E55 is a well built car regardless of age. Always remember, Age before beauty 👊🏾

I love how people think that if a car is old it magically loses its power and the car becomes broken, even with low mileage.
The Need For Speed nod in the music was so appreciated ❤️ gorgeous machine!

As usual another Excellent video and information.
Would be interesting to see a roll race!
Yes a roll race is better indicator , I think M156 would have a slight edge only because it revs harder on the top end.

234K miles on mine and still love it!
W211 is a bit heavier and the old 5g transmission is way slower than the 7g. Considering this, the results are pretty awesome for an old 113K.
