Thank you. Thank you more than you know. This video just helped me immensely and it gave me the confidence I needed to fix mine without sending it off and paying 250 dollars to have it done.

This video instruction is very useful and informative. The bezel can easily be rolled around the edge of the housing by rolling the plastic handle of a small screwdriver against the bezel. This does not cause any damage and the bezel is fixated.
To protect the needle of the counter, you can leave the counter resting on the plastic ring while carrying out the repair.
Be patient and don't rush. This is precision work. Regards from The Netherlands

Thanks for the video! The only issue I had was when I put it back together the speedo needle was pointed at 6 o’clock. I gently rotated it to the stop (around 160) and then continued to gently rotate it to the max. Upon releasing it it rotated back to zero. You may need fine adjustments so that it stops at the max and rests at zero. No need to remove it.

Excellent post. Fixed mine OK. I managed to do this without removing the needle (which seemed like the most fragile piece) I instead taped the lens onto the body to protect the needle while I did the gear replacement.

This video is excellent! However, is putting everything back easy? I am specifically relating it to the bezel. You had a hard time prying it off. How was it put back? Does it have something that clicks and locks? Or, do you need to glue (I hope not)? Thank you.

Putting in a new engine, and was wondering if the speedometer can be returned to zero?

That's one of my biggest reasons for making this video ... to repair the odometer without touching / removing the speedometer needle. If you MUST remove the needle, such as when replacing the gauge face plates, then this video isn't for you.

Hi. Could you explain how to change odo on US spec car from miles to KM. Car was imported into Euro. Need odo change to KM. Car is 993 turbo. Thanks.

Excellent video. Is this process the same for the 964? Mine just let go...old, but only 19k miles.

Part of my making this video was because everywhere I looked for information on this, I was told that repairs had to be done by taking needle off, which I showed was not the case - at least for the 993. OdometerGears.com had instructions for most Porsche models for doing this procedure. But they also mentioned taking the needle off. Not sure if you can do it with my technique. I haven't done it on a 964 so I cannot say for sure.

FYI. The process is different for a 911SC. The speedometer needle must be taken off as well as the gears. odometergears.com has a pretty good article on it.

I titled this procedure for a Porsche 911 993 subtype. Not sure about an SC. I know odometergears.com states needle should be taken off, but they said same thing for the 993 and I did not.

The odometer on a 911SC is built differently from a 993. I could not see how it is possible to change the gear without removing the needle for 911SC. Just wanted to post this in case someone out there hopes this video would also work for a 911SC despite the title clearly stating it is for a 993. I think it is great you posted this video for the benefit of other 993 owners though.
