If CAC wants to take part in drone funding, the NAFO 69th Sniffing Brigade is the easiest way to collaborate with. They arrange everything and youtubers only need to promote that. Over 100 euro donators get a quality badge as a memory. Or a fundraiser for a $18k truck and a chance to drive it from Estonia to Kyiv in a convoy.

Considering how crucial this is in warfare, the state should have long been investing millions, if not billions, in drones because it's a must-have, a game-changer in warfare (not a replacement for artillery)

The Baba Yaga drone has thermal imaging and can carry a payload of up to 15kg. It could potentially drop 8 60mm mortar rounds exactly on enemy positions in the dead of night.

Currently 2 most expensive russian pieces of equipment, destroyed by FPV drones are anti-aircraft missle system "Thor" (approx. 24m $) and AA missle system C-350 "Vityaz" laucher (135m $). Plus countless tanks, IFVs, artillery systems, etc. Pretty damn effective.

That is really impressive. The idea of using a signal booster drown with an attack drone to get around Russian signal jamming is just epic.
Besides homemade FPV drones, the Ukrainian Army now uses standardized versions produced by private and state-owned companies. President Zelensky said that in December alone, those companies produced 50,000 FPV drones. And in 2024, they will produce over 1 000 000 FPV drones.

We received not a lot military equipment
They have started to use Bradley 25MM HEI rounds as drop munitions. Which is extremely clever, as the rounds are extremely effective for their size, so allow multiple drops and is pretty much ideal for anti-infantry and anti-trench operations.

That’s honestly probably a better use for the 155mm DPICM shells anyway. I’m a USMC artillery vet and those were designed for mass fires not onesies and twosies like Ukraine is forced to do due to a lack of munitions and freedom of movement. I also fly fpv drones and have nothing but praise for the fpv pilots putting their cajones on the line. These are not long distance weapons platforms for the most part. These guys are up close and personal!

I'm a drone expert (engineer) for the US Air Force. This is a fascinating topic particularly because of how quickly the grass roots 'combat' drone scene has evolved organically. There are so many lessons to learn here and they go far beyond just the drone aspect. I hope to see more of this type of content and how can we not considering the direction things are moving.
To comment practically on some of this I am very glad to see them move away from using DJI drones. This was a big tactical error at the beginning. Lets be clear and say that it may not entirely be DJI's fault, but the risk is there non the less despite their 'stated' intentions. The bottom line is both China and Russia have 'hooks' into their software > backdoors if you will. What does this mean to the user? Let's look at the design/function of DJI first. They use their own mandatory software running on your personal cell phone (in most cases) which are then connected to the cell network. Then they combine that with real time GPS data of both the phone and the drone.
So what you have are very very serious, deadly in fact, OPSEC risks in multiple areas. First, the drone software can be hacked to basically triangulate the position of the launch sites as well as the drone current position. If there is a QRF (quick reaction force) on the enemy side they can target the user very quickly and with highly accurate GPS guidance data ready to go. That's a very bad thing. Secondary OPSEC threat is the phone/cell connection and the DJI software. China and Russia now have 'back door' access to your phone, where it is (you are), who you are, and any data that resides on the device.
So, the best counter to these OPSEC risks are two if a DJI drone is the only option. (1) launch and move - NEVER launch from the same place twice and NEVER EVER launch from a FOB or permanent location as these can be targeted. Launch from a random field site each time and after you do launch move out immediately. Movement is your friend in this case particularly because the response time of the enemy is so slow (this is going to change). They will quickly adapt and it's best to stay ahead of that.
(2) NEVER use your personal phone or laptop to run the software. Make sure to use 'burner' phones and laptops that also have no record of sale to a personal address you are associate with. Use a proxy for delivery and registration. And make sure whatever phone and laptop are connected are 'clean' with no OPSEC relevant or personal data onboard. Last, signals can be triangulated so just operate as if your position is compromised every time these are used. Move quickly and covertly.
These impressive folks have already started to build these in house and use the FPV system which is vastly superior for avoiding many (certainly not all) security risks. That is the way to go. Now they need some good software dev folks to help create a good system for their particular use in house that cannot be compromised. This is where this will go in the future. It's both scary and impressive what they are doing over there out of necessity. I am formally trained, educated and have 27 years experience in this drone arena for military and intelligence applications and I can tell you I am impressed by what they are doing.
We are also working on some very impressive anti-drone technology right now as well. Last, the Ukraine situation has brought to light what a large role mini-combat-drones will have in modern warfare and we have already made some amazing leaps in our own well funded field here. I can't talk about anything specific but there are some interesting hints if you look at Anduril Industries and they even have some short demo videos here on YT worth a look for anyone interested in the topic. -J. DJI was not "tactical error", thats gives crucial advantage at start of war. Nobody dont use DJI software, but both sides use own firmware on it.

I also hope that the national security institutions have realized how large the risks are at home now - I consider it only a matter of time before either foreign or domestic terroists deploy these systems or something akin to it to make a statement. A Taylor Swift concert, the Super Bowl, an outdoor political rally....the implications are scary to say the least.

In fact, to avoid the cases described above, our drones do not use standard firmware, they are flashed and checked every day, the Russians do not always do this and we break them and see what they are and everything else.
Indeed we (national defense) do understand the emerging threat and take it seriously. Anti-drone tech is getting pretty advanced as well. Luckily the commercial drones are not hard to deal with for a technologically sophisticated and well funded country like US. But a foreign state sponsored program will have significantly better and more secure control systems. That is the current chess game we are playing. @@Darwinist

The drone warfare in Ukraine is terrifying. FPV drones will go into open hatches on tanks, dugouts, buildings and blow them up from inside. You can't hear or see them until it's too late either. I've seen footage of drones hovering over soldiers, and they have no clue they're being watched. And while the prospect of AI controlled drone swarms sound like the future of warfare, I think human controlled drone operators have their place. Case in point, I watched a video of 7-8 Russian soldiers in a truck somewhere on the Ukrainian front line. A drone was stalking the truck. When they stopped to unload the truck with ammo, the FPV drone flew straight into the truck which was destroyed along with all the supplies. The soldiers survived, but they're now out in the middle of nowhere with no truck and no supplies. An AI would probably prioritize the soldiers first instead of the truck. But the drone pilot knew that killing one soldier means nothing in Ukraine. So he took out a whole group by forcing them to walk home or render them useless without supplies. And they do this kind of strategic thinking all the time.
Something to note on soldiers who are unaware of drones, is IF they have bin on the front line for a long time, they certanly have hearing problems.
And from what I've noticed, a lot of People dont have protection for hearing.

A lot of my friends(and also me) learn of how to fly on FPV drones (FPV simulators mostly) to be somehow helpful for our army(and with donations of course 😅)
I am a French manufacturer and pilot of an FPV drone. piloting a stabilized Mavic can be learned in two days, on the other hand, making parameters, adjusting an FPV drone and another story. Driving in addictive mode, allowing you to go wherever you want, requires a lot of practice. at least a month to learn how to fly straight. Hitting a moving target at over 100 km/h is quite difficult and requires practice. FPV is my passion.

I remember my grandparents have quite similar things .. not sure what for .. pens or whatever .. and I never thought about it .. but supposedly it was manufactured from WW2 shells .. not sure what it was but looked like around 20mm shell and F1 granade as well. Скорее , ты помнишь что-то из гильз , возможно " зажигалку" , это могло быть т.к.в войну была проблема со спичками и огонь носили* от соседей даже ...А фитили - свечи были из гильз, но это предположение. Просто гильзы могли быть сувенирами из СА уже, но точно не 20 мм , в СССР за это в тюрьму попасть можно было .

Я не знаю коли це було виготовлено але припаси з другої світової дуже довго знаходили навіть років 50 після завершення війни. У людей в кого були господарські ділянки після чергової обробки/перепахування землі знаходили гільзи і навіть кулі. Не знаю чи це 20мм було чи просто дитяче сприйняття. це дуже давно було .. але точно памятаю шо були дрібніші гільзи і були досить таки крупні.

it has happened. The drones were used to geolocate the operators. It had to be removed by updating the firmware to give anonymity to the soldiers. It wasn't figured out immediately, so some lives have been lost to that, unfortunately
Those were Russian propaganda videos designed to scare Ukrainians. Ukraine was well aware of DJI Aeroscope before 2022 and had adapted through customization of firmware to avoid this issue.

Those DJI drones have default firmware installed that can show the pilot his position, drone regulation in many countries could require this kind of traceability, this software also has geofencing which interdicts flying in certain areas, i'am sure that they reverse engineered the firmware to strip out all these functions.
And also there is no GPS on the frontlines. Those DJI drones that are used in a warfare are jailbreaked and flashed with custom firmware. Not sure where they get it from. Most likely downloaded from the internet. :)
@@DmitryTurovsky Don't think there is full EW coverage along the whole frontline, it's gong to be a patchwork.
If modified firmware was not available the Ukrainians sure got software specialists to pull this off.

It usually works like this: you make a post, people who know you share it saying 'I know those guys, they need this and this, here's a link to a mono jar', and so on. It's harder for smaller volunteers, sometimes bigger ones re-post to boost the donations. Our most known volunteers are quite fpv-oriented now.

It is also important to know that the drones are used because of the lack of artillery munitions on the frontline. In some zones of frontline Ukrainian artillery is almost silent and the drones are used to entirely replace artillery coverage. However, it is just a temporary measure. Drones are still less effective than artillery. This, artillery munition production numbers should be increased

Drones with AI are already working, which choose the target themselves. That is, the enemy's EW system no longer works, because the drone flies on autopilot. FPV drones with night cameras also work now... The future came yesterday.
AI drones not used in warfare and won't be used for a very long yet as it may be unpredictable and may friendly fire
Not fully AI-controlled yet. It's require an operator to lock on target, so basically means you need to direct the drone all the way up. Still it's great, because at last 100-200 meters AI control the drone (when rist to lost it is highest), and almost guarantee a hit, even if you lost connection, which is really common, because of terrain, and low attitude at the final points of trajectory.
A drone with an autopilot system that when it loses a connection simply retraces it's steps until it can re-establish it should be a good option as well. If one target is a no-go because of EW perhaps it can be re-routed to a secondary target that isn't covered.
Such drones, unarmed but with extended battery instead of a payload can be used to probe and map out EW coverage. Every time they run into trouble they just go back and now you know not to waste your more valuable drones over there. With multiples of these in the sky triangulating the source of the EW emissions becomes a possibility and then the artillery can go to work even if you don't have eyes on.

Theres no english name, its called Viburnum by scientists. It is one of prominent folkvice significant plants in Ukrainian culture, the famoust wartime song "Ой у лузі червона калина" gave it some promotion. It is special in a way, how berries can survive deep freeze during a winter, preserving furtility, and rich nutritional value for consumers. I presume, this resilience against harshest cinditiins is what earned its place as venerable symbole.

FPV economics looks approximately like this:
Drone costs 200-300$ + costs of ammunition (it could be the rpg head dirt cheap or some advanced price stuff)
On one armored vehicle are often used 5-10 FPV drones. So to destroy BTR, BMP or tank is aprox. 1000 - 3000$ + explosives
If FPV operator does not see a machine in googles but sees infantry, he sends infantry "to the moon".
If your FPV destroys 1AK it is economicaly effective everything above that is "profit".

The Drone fight is a real thing - scary as hell - going forward I'm waiting for an AWACS drone to identify and deal with an area to counter drones
Usually, we have to reinstall the firmware on Chinese drones, or modify them, before we hand them over to our fighters. Otherwise, using a drone without special firmware is dangerous for the drone operator. The Russians have systems that determine the place where the drone was launched without special firmware and they immediately apply fire.

The drones and the way Ukraine has been using them is probably the most cost effective weapon ever used in modern warfare. Like you said if a drone is 100 and the munition let's just say 1,000 and you disable a tank( which I've seen a few times on UA-cam).that's 1100 ( give or take for the cost of munition) taking out millions $ for the tank. And it's insanely versatile. The drone can do many different jobs in the field. To me it seems almost as important as the machine gun was in ww1.

5:50 Most likely it is TOS-1A Solntsepyok of the Russian Army (translates as sun - burns), very powerful thing and very scary, as it literally sweeps away everything in its path, but there is one rather big disadvantage, it works extremely close as for MLRS, the maximum range of application is 15km in the newest modification.

the other thing that drones enable that you dont really see from this video is making smaller units 'occupy' a larger portion of the front. someone was saying that where previously Ukraine would need a company of guys to occupy X amount of territory, they can lower it to a platoon or even a squad depending on how big their drone element is. so if you look at the map of the war, you'd think its WW1 style densities but its way thinner on the ground without any corresponding weakness.

Excellent video. One correction though; flying fpv drones takes quite a while to learn, especially with any degree of proficiency, includes hours upon hours practicing on a simulator before actually flying the real thing. It’s not like flying a Mavic. With that said, you can probably get guys trained and on the front lines within a month or so of intensive training and practice but that’s really pushing it imo.
Just imagine in a near future when you can apply a smal thing like a size of an matchbox with huge explosion and impact just like a JDAM, HIMARS or something like that
