One of my acquaintances, a schoolteacher from Kharkiv, serves in Kraken as a combat medic. She used to teach children Ukrainian language and literature, and in her free time, she coached them in a fencing team. Now, she's been wounded twice and is a Knight of the Order of Princess Olga. The tough guys from Kraken and other units were not long ago just civilians with peaceful professions who never planned to be at war. Now, they are the elite of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

@@vinovat8730 That's right. Kraken is a special unit of the Main Intelligence Directorate. And yes, they are highly trained fighters now. But at the beginning of the invasion, it wasn't an elite special forces unit. Kraken was formed from volunteers. Some of them had experience serving in Azov, but most were civilians. The backbone of the unit consisted of football fans and simply motivated young people. The fact that they were incorporated into the structure of the Main Intelligence Directorate doesn't mean they were a special forces unit from the very beginning. Their combat experience made them strong.

Russia has also always laughed at the weak Ukrainian army. there are many different videos until 2022 from Russian politicians and military experts, which say - “if Russia attacks Ukraine, the war will last a maximum of 3 days.” At the same time, Russian propaganda was able to convince Russians that “we attacked Ukraine first because we were defending ourselves. If we had not done this, the Ukrainians would have conquered all of Russia.”

It's actually very moving, in this dire time, when your politicians have essentially turned their backs on us and cut aid. All my friends and relatives who are at war, who are in the rear, dream of victory, because without it, we really cannot live normally. Now our whole life is postponed until victory. The majority of people like me, who returned from abroad to their homeland, where the war is going on, have now stopped imagining their life anywhere else, except Ukraine. We really want to defend our home. Everyone just wants to stop and not be afraid to lose their loved ones, friends, relatives, loved ones every day - it is impossible to get used to it. It's really awesome that it's happening, a lot of the recon groups and foundations that provide fpv drones had been talking about the much needed structure for the training of pilots and specialists. they are all super happy that its happening and it's really going to help refine their drone developments.

I know a lot of people from Kraken. They are super motivated and have super different background, but yeah, a big part of them, at least at the beginning was from football fans, but even back then it wasn't the majority.

My classmate was fighting in the Davinci Wolves and is among those who died on the March 7 2023.

UPD: Name of my classmate was Illya Okolodko, and technically he didn't die on the 7th, but received a fatal wound. He then spent 3 months in a coma, and only then lost his life.
It was a really sad day for all of us, and made the war feel much closer to everyone personally.
I've worked with him in MacDonald's... He was a good man.

I’m sorry but fuck them. I started my career in the Marines 36 brigade 501 battalion. We were attached to a group of them and they did horrible things to the four of us that were Jewish.
I’m now in a different special unit and the last time I served with them I made all of them do the hardest work. You cannot treat people the way they treated us because of our religious beliefs one of them was named Vitaly which is honestly my name and he had an SS tattoo on his back

The guy who refer to as having the “radio voice” is the commander of the azov brigade. He was also exchanged in that prisoner exchanged and send to Turkey, after a while he came back to Ukraine recently and took up the position of the commander of the Azov once again.

But looking at your work and efficiency, and your calm confidence from the very first days of war, looking at your creativity and constant development, new tricks and your level of organisation, looking at the amount of occupants casualties, it just gave me some confidence, calmness. I can live, I can sleep, I feel your shoulder. You are more than fighting units and the damage you do to the enemy. You became the beating heart of Ukraine.

old post but. its not only faster its literally impossible to make a plane like f16 for us. Many countries that aren't in a war and doing fairly well economically cant all of a sudden start making jets with all R&D, financing and stuff required, it takes years if not decades. There are like 8-10 countries in the world that can build them so most just buy from them. so yeah the only way to get jets is if someone gives some..

Watching all this drone warfare become more and more common in modern war scares the shit out of me for ground troops. And in general.
Good top-5 for sure, but also we have K2 battalion within the 54 mech brigade, also special operation forces are quite strong and experienced (staff fighters being involved in regular battles from 2014) - there are elite 3rd and 8th regiments of SOF (former special forces of GUR - Main Intelligence Directorate), and ofcourse actual GUR special forces (unit #10, ShamanBat and some others), also special forces of National Guard (another one SOF NG unit besides Azov) - Omega Company. Among regular linear brigades I'd point out 93rd Mech brigade, 59 Mech, 72 Mech, 92 Mech, among airborne brigades - 79 airborne brigade, which was holding Mariinka for 1.5 years against russian division...
3-th brigade - one of the best!

In fact, all these units, except for the Magyar Birds, originate from 2014, when they were volunteer battalions of nationalists (that is, people who fight in combat tasks, while not being officially part of the armed forces and NOT receiving any money for it. They fight just for their ideas. This was the situation in 2014 due to the fact that the army was destroyed politically and demoralized by the previous pro-Russian governments, so it can be said that the first Ukraine did not lose the war in 2014-2015, thanks to these guys. During the Revolution in 2013-2014, two centers of widespread conservative movements - the Right Sector and the Patriot of Ukraine movement, which went to fight as volunteers.
The Da Vinci Wolves started fighting in the Right Sector, and the members of the Patriot of Ukraine movement created the Azov Battalion, which was extremely motivated and effective, which eventually allowed them to grow first into a regiment and then into a Brigade.
When, after a couple of years, the regular army was finally put in order, Azov and the Right Sector officially entered the service of the Armed Forces and the National Guard.
In the early days of the invasion in 2022, many veterans of this unit, who had returned to civilian life, took up arms again, along with a new generation of teenage nationalists, thereby forming several units on the ground at once. Kyiv and Dnipro Azov, including several slightly smaller Azov groups, eventually formed the Azov Special Operations Forces regiment, which was later renamed the Third Assault Brigade. Kharkiv Azov was subordinated to the Main Directorate of Intelligence and became the "Kraken" unit.
But all this time the Separate Special Purpose Unit of the National Guard "Azov" fought in Mariupol and other hot spots.
That is why we have 3 well-known and large "Azov units" and several small separate "Azov" battalions and units. All this in general is the Azov Movement.
Other nationalists and conservatives also formed their units: young traditionalists and metropolitan intellectuals (who were engaged in the publishing of conservative literature) from the Vanguard Union, the conservative movement "Tradition and Order" created the "Revansh" battalion, radical Christians created "Bratsvo" and so on.
Therefore, in fact, I do not understand why American conservatives and Republicans constantly block aid to Ukraine, considering us supporters of leftist ideas, which is completely untrue. We actually have a politically free country where everyone can be who they want to be, but it is thanks to the loyalty of their homeland to the nationalists that our country has not yet lost to Russia, which has a numerical advantage.

16:42 thats my home area, I was there at first days of invasion. Kraken and Freikorps filled the road around city with burned russian armor, as I heard (but not saw, luckily, only heard. Saw videos of it few days later.). Russians were then trying to locate them, shelling everything around unprecisely with grads or plain shooting from tanks from few km afar, so I had to leave home, to not get hit, returned only some time ago. Luckily, only some windows were damaged in my flat, but the closer other houses were to the road, the higher was damage.

DaVinci was a famous Ukrainian Soldier - who gave his life in defence of Ukraine.
The legendary soldier Dmytro Kotsyubailo, known as "Da Vinci", died in the battles for Ukraine. At one time, he received the highest state award - the title of Hero of Ukraine and was one of the youngest heroes of Ukraine.
Dmytro Kotsyubail was 27 years old.
News of the soldier's death first appeared on social networks, later it was confirmed by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
"Da Vinci, hero of Ukraine, volunteer, man-symbol, man-courage - Dmytro Kotsyubailo died in battle today," the president said.

Kotsyubailo was the battalion commander of the 67th separate mechanized brigade "Da Vinci Wolves". He died in the battle near Bakhmut.
"One of those whose personal history, character, and courage forever became the history, character, and courage of Ukraine," said Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
Comrades of the soldier wrote on Facebook that he died while performing a combat mission.
"He died with a weapon in his hands, he died, going into battle first. He lived and died as a Hero," reads the message on the page of the "Da Vinci Wolves" unit.

And you're like "okay? what's happened? did the russians break through or were thrown away?". And then you hear the explosions start again. That was like that for about several days in a row.
