Long Range Made Easy? - AllTerra Mountain Shadow Carbon 6.5 PRC

  • In this video I review the AllTerra Arms Mountain Shadow Carbon chambered in 6.5 PRC as well as talk about what AllTerra offers in regards to providing a turn-key rifle kit that allows you to literally shoot long range with only the press of a button and the pull of a trigger. This could be very appealing to many people that don't want to do a lot of the leg work of scope selection, mounting, zeroing, load development, imputing info to a ballistic calculator, etc. Even without the kit, as a stand alone rifle the Mountain Shadow Carbon is so far proving to be a ridiculously capable rifle. Side note, AllTerra said if anyone mentions Texas Plinking when ordering a rifle you get a free trigger upgrade. That offer expires April 1st, 2024.
    Thank y'all for watching!

    No one should be taking shots on animals if they haven't put the time behind the rifle with proper training

      While I agree. This allows someone who is going to do much more than a couple of range trips to be much safer.

    Very nice rifle, but I am not paying $6500+ for a rifle that is no more accurate than a $1500 rifle.
    On the subject of people that don't know how to set up a rifle, it would blow peoples mind knowing how many hunters there are that can't set up their rifle. The owner of a gun shop asked me if I wanted to make a little extra money (mounting scopes and zeroing rifles and large cal. handguns). I asked why, he said many people that get new guns or rescope their guns can't set them up. And all of them wanted someone to check zero before hunting season every year. I went by his shop 2 days a week through the summer months to mount scopes and zero rifles on his 100 yrd range, I would keep targets with 5 shot groups for the gun owner with ammo info. I got to shoot all types of rifles and revolvers in all major calibers with someone else buying all ammo and paying me to do it. I done that for 4 years, even set bows up for the same reason.

    Seems like an accurate rifle. Not sure many people would think 3 round groups statistically mean anything. For that price there really should be all the bells and whistles, adjustable cheek riser/length of pull just to name 2. Great video as usual

      Very true but I think that fixed stocks are pretty universal excluding children. I shoot a weatherby vanguard, i’m 6’2 and set it up to fit me like a glove. Mother and father are like 5’9. Aunts and uncles are like 5’6-5’8. Little cousins is like 5’2. Outside of eye relief and scope height, the rifle fit them comfortably as well.
      3 shot groups do mean a lot for hunting, especially a sub .5 MOA cold bore. If you hit or miss an animal, it’s unlikely to remain stationary and if you need more than 3 shots to kill an animal, you need more practice. Walking around with a 5 lbs rifle beats walking around with a 9 lbs one.
      Also they guarantee a sub .5 MOA 3 shot group. My weatherby had a guaranteed sub MOA 3 shot group but it’s still very consistent 4 shots and up. I’ve shot 6 rounds within 3 minutes and all impacted roughly centered mass at 500 yards.

    • @michaelthrelkeld212
      @michaelthrelkeld212 5 місяців тому

      Still stand behind fact that 3 shot groups men very little for showing accuracy of a gun and a particular cartridge. Hunted all across the globe for 26 years now and agree with fact you shouldn’t need 3 shots on most animals. And just because a rifle has an adjustable cheek riser and length of pull doesn’t automatically make it heavy. At those prices those things should be a given. And yes most times I would prefer a lighter gun but not when shooter higher caliber gun like 300PRC, 300Win or .338 Lap

    I don't see 7mm PRC in the list. I would also hope you could get a longer barrel. A 20 or 22 inch barrel is no way to get the best performance out of a high capacity cartridge. Not what I would want for a $6k+ rifle.

    For the price I’d rather see a forged carbon chassis/stock instead of a typical weaver carbon design. Based on conditions I’d rather always test my zero confirmation. I still can’t see how even with materials and labor it’s still a 6k platform
    With no optic McRee and a couple other companies have shown these companies are gonna kill the industry by making stuff so expensive and set to the standards they use that entry level rifles will soon make a leap up on price again.

  • @ronevans9277

    Any chance to customize approach with 1,000 yard challenge or even reviews and focus on new shooter bracket methodology? I don’t have. 1,000 yrd, range nearby, just 200 yrd. Haven’t had my new rifle out because weather is awful. At the age of 50, never getting to shoot at all until a few years ago, and being highly competitive, find this all very interesting. Bought my first semi-auto shotgun 2 years ago then a beretta 694 and ,I’ve clay shooting, but can’t find the time. So why not buy a stag arms pursuit bolt-action 6.5 Creedmoor and give long range a chance. Hence, I have a lot,to learn and think it would be fun to have a “newbie” challenge or even “newbie” v. “tenured” challenge. And for the younger folk, I know “noob” is the way it is today, my kids tell me all the time. - appreciate the content.

      @kirbywhite2442 8 місяців тому

      The range finder uses Applied Ballistics. When you create the custom profile for your cartridge, there is a table to input mv vs temp. I'm not certain, but I'd wager that AB also accounts for aerodynamic jump.
