The ZULUS is now available at DNT Optics here: us.dntoptics.com/texasplinking and code “texasplinking” still gets you the biggest savings currently available! Also checkout their ThermNight, it’s practically this optic with an added thermal scope! Code "texasplinking" gets you some good savings on that as well. In this video I review the ZULUS. A night vision scope that cost less than $500. (When using code "texasplinking") For that price you have to wonder, just how useable is it? I thought it'd be smart to compare it to analog night vision and explain the massive price differences and what you can expect from digital night vision by showing examples of both. If you're looking for a way to do some night shooting & hunting without taking out a mortgage, this might be the way to go. If you're interested in budget thermal, (under $1,000) check out my review on the ThermNight: ua-cam.com/video/9jRxigVOUtw/v-deo.html
Show the Zulus without the illuminator on..............................they are over priced for what they are and the components in them (a realtively cheap digital sensor without IR filter). The Zulus looked terrible without the illuminator given the amount of light available, there was a lot of skyglow which equates to NL3 conditions, this is not dark (1 - to 10 mlux and why your dog has a shadow) - in other words its not very good as a night vision device. Its a dawn and dusk device. The difference between HQ digital and this is around an order of magnitude e.g. effective down to 0.1mlux without illumination and good analogue is nearly two orders of magnitude better than this e.g ~ 0.05mlux. Context is important with night vision devices particularly broader ambient light conditions.
I ordered one a couple days ago considering it’s approximately 9 times cheaper than your single tube NOD and it works very well for the price I’d call this a big win all day and night long.
@@silaslocklear6467 Interesting. I haven't personally either but read about recoil damaging the tube or breaking the wire connections. Also burned in ACOG Chevron reticles. 😄

You taught me a few things today. I was planning on looking at a few more vid's but you covered a lot of my questions. Now I want to see it used on a night hunt to see the thoughts of the shooters and accuracy.
Two of the biggest markets I see these digital NV scopes working well for, is the PCC segment, and air rifle pest hunters. Their price, range, and capability are perfectly suited to the 2-300m range of PCCs, and it's a no-brainer for night time diapatch of rats/pigeons/etc with an air rifle.
I gotta say thanks for this Night Scope lesson, it taught me a lot . I didn't know there were two types and then I believe toward the end you mentioned"thermal". I am a sport photographer and modern digital cameras in the price range of $5500-6000 have become very good at shooting with super fine resolution in very low light. They do the best omitting "noise", the electrical circuit interference injected onto the signal by increasing the gain, Personally I'm ok with not seeing as well as analog , just fine with thermal vision white spot with cross hairs. Like varmints or terrorists etc. thanks again.
Great so far. Put about 20 rounds through it. Still on zero. Just wish my 308 saint liked nato speck ammo. Hand loads it's lights out, so not a biggee for me.
> most hog and predator hunting is within 100 yards Yea, first time I went hog hunting I took a .308 long range rifle, expecting a 2-300yd shot. My actual shot was 30 yards. These days I'm taking hogs within 25 yards. I haven't been super interested in digital NV, and I've mostly been looking at thermal. But, honestly, this seems like an extremely compelling option for the price point.
Umm, this is a no brainer. With Arken I can shoot in the dark at 100yds and hit my target. Why, would I spend 2 thousand or even 6 or 8 thousand dollars when this new Arken does basically the same thing and saves me tons of money to buy more firearms and not to mention the cost of ammo these days. This is a perfect example of an affordable night and day scope. Great video bro.
If I can save up & get this, will you come over & set it up with me 😂. Seriously, thank you for this video. This has been the best in helping me understand what I want 👍
First review to actually show the little tv screen that is what you see. I almost got a Thermal for $2500 until I saw the same little screen. Great vid and saved $$$$.$$ Coyote time!
I'm a bit of an optics snob and been lucky enough to enjoy some very top end day and night optics, but a friend of mine bought a Zulus with LRF for his air rifle and I've been very impressed by it. It out performs its nearest rivals and the ballistic calculator works really well. The supplied mounts aren't brilliant, but Tier-One are releasing specific Arken option for the QD UBM which will be very nice indeed.
There's a cool idea, Brandon......how about doing a 1 MOA 1000 yard night challenge once in a while! I would like to see a thermal scope with this comparison. Always good information. Thank you sir!
Definitely cool for the category, but for real night hunting, thermal is the way. I used several digital night vision optics, then after using an iray thermal, I can't go back.
Great review! It is a crime that you've only got 2% likes for this video. It's a shame that folks can't be bothered to show a little appreciation. All the best.
Haven’t watched the video yet but I have the Arken Zulus and have it set up on a 5.56 to go shoot pigs. I have video of it on my IG, daytime video at the range, and some night time video in the back yard. I think this optic is great for the price point. The One Shot Zero, is awesome... freeze the screen and aiming point then change the zero on your phone by moving the reticle, next shot or series is pretty much zeroed
I have been debating between the Zulus and the Wraith 4k. My understanding though, is that the Wraith does not have rechargeable batteries and it goes through batteries pretty quick.
Sounds like it's a very usable and especially well priced night optic. What I would like to see is you shooting a group on paper at 100 yards during the day and again at night, then for the grand finally banging some steel (day & night) out further. Now that would be a really fun and interesting video to watch
I look forward to your testing the LRF. I love the fact that it is useful at night, but forget that: digital optics are the future in daylight. An integrated rangefinder tied to a ballistics calculator to give you an on-the-fly dead-nuts reticle? I think it would be stupid not to want that very badly. Hopefully they will eventually open the range to get down to close to 1x. Then you have a home-defense optic useful for low-light cqb out to beyond any range likely still considered home-defense with a laser and computer calculating your holds on the fly. Yes, please. Mount his on a bullpup, and what can it NOT do? Very pumped.
Definitely cool & certainly has it's place, but I'm personally more interested in a thermal monocular device that can be hand held,or can be mounted on a pic rail,or clipped to the objective bell of your scope. There was a vid from shot show that gave an overview of the device(I don't recall the company),but I think it was about +/-$900

Great tutorial man. Thanks! The only issues I have is no black reticle. Not a big deal. And I can't set the date and time. When I set it and quick press the record button to lock it in, it just keeps changing it. Not sure the problem, but again not a deal breaker for me. So far a really cool fun entry level night scope

Nice review! Thank you. I assume that if you use the IR emitter assist, you become a visible red dot to coyotes etc if you're trying to eradicate them. Correct? Would you say the non-IR-assisted mode is at least good enough to get a good sight picture of vitals of predators within 100 yards?
I have the LRF one, you can hit at any range first shot, it either gives you a hold over on the screen or moves the entire cross hair, set which you prefer. I also got the 940nm light to be more invisible when hunting. @@GreatLakesLogger
@@doomfathertm8771 I've been eyeing it for a pcp air rifle. Is the daytime resolution good enough to have good detail on a squirrel or sparrow at 100 yards? Is there any latency at all?
Yes, I use mind on a pcp air rifle (fx dreamline) I use it on rabbits out to 200 yards at night, in the day you could triple that if you had a center fire. @@GreatLakesLogger
@GreatLakesLogger It has one of the best day images on a digital scope. I have tested over 10 digital scopes and this does great. At 100y I could see a 2" spinner. I have a few videos on my page.
I thought the very same thing and was ready to breakout the plastic from my wallet if it was worth a shit. Not happening.,... The IRay units that are out now absolutely spoil those who have them. I can't imagine what our special forces are using now. I've seen some videos of the new thermals that have AWS & Alphabet configured into the firmware. They are flat unbelievable. I can see exactly what why the conduct operations at night. I truly believe they are much more capable of working in the dead of night than they are in broad daylight.... There is no fighting force as capable as the US Special Forces. I wouldn't want to be in their list of targets, as they will find you and they will execute their orders regardless of where you're located!!
The rubber cone is to keep the light IN".. Because if you were using it at night and aiming at someone--- your little viewing screen would light up your face like a Halloween costume; and anyone would be able to see you. So that rubber eye piece stays sealed to your face and keeps the light contained so that you're not giving yourself away.
Thanks for this. Been thinking about getting a Zulus, and this helps. I have a L3 pvs-14 so I expect it to be different, but I'm looking for a hog setup, and I think this should work just fine. ... Thermal Someday, lol
that was helpful i always wanted to kno especially now im looking into NV why the prices vary so much, do you have an idea why thermals have a massiv price shift aswell like u can get a hand help mono for 500 bucks but the iray rh 25 is like 3-5k? whats the cost difference on those and how does that tally to usefulness. it boggles me. cheers again!
When you were trying to hold it steady on your porch... Idk why you didn't hug up against that post and brace yourself. You should make that a habit.. That should be your first instinct when aiming at something.. especially if you find yourself in a gun battle. Not only for use as cover-- but for stabilizing. I guess you were more one track minded in staying in the shot for the camera to see you....... But then you jumped to the internal recording of the scope, so it wouldn't matter. :) ... ALWAYS brace yourself, if it's there.
Hi Tex,how much eye relief does the unit have and what would be the maximum size cartridge you would use this on without a muzzle break ? Cheers from Australia 👍
It's definitely not a "FFP like you said... Yes it does expand a bit.. But I noticed when you were zoomed out, the reticle was wider than that white tower... But as you zoomed in much further, the reticle was not nearly as wide as the tower anymore. So it does expand a little bit, but it's not proportional like a true FFP scope--- Still seems pretty slick though.. It zooms quite a bit
@@TexasPlinking interesting.. So the mils stay the same, but the span of the reticle changes. I really like this thing.> I was just about to get an EP4 with the japanese glass.. But I might just get this instead. I have a 6.5creed and 308 that both still need scopes.
Not a hunter here, but would these be more expensive than the night vision binoculars? Actually, I'm looking for an analog night vision I guess that can zoom in better for that tower you were showing! What is your expertise in this matter? Thx much
Just got mine yesterday. Won't mount on any of my 5 pellet guns. Great for pcp manufacturers lol...now I have to wait for a new FX to show up. Rat videos coming soon 😆

"...with the protons and the croutons..."
Haha! I'm gonna use that.
You should check out the atn x-sight they perform similar to that unit
I have a zulus it's amazing
Which version?
Finally a comparison I'm interested about.
Edit: it's NV.. I though it was thermal, nevermind.
Ever try putting your PVS14 in front of your LPVO? I heard it'll work, and there's probably mounts for it to work as such.
🤔 interesting, I definitely want a good Day/nightvison scope ✌️
Even with zero IR it did well. That makes it worth 500 imo
Can the cantilever mount be removed? Other options? Seems to put the scope way forward?
I'm interested if the camera has a decent frame rate, at least for daylight.
How does the Zulus compare to the Wraith???
Seems about equal but I'm a nv rookie.
Thanks
Hi Tex,how much eye relief does the unit have and what would be the maximum size cartridge you would use this on without a muzzle break ? Cheers from Australia 👍
Second this comment. 45mm eye relief seems shallow for anything with decent recoil.
@@forrestbowman6598 hey,I have a 7mm rem mag with no brake,probably not an option . 6mm max 🤔🤷♂️
@@StevoRicho just don’t know really. Haven’t seen anyone put on anything over .223. I’d like to know if it would work on my .308 or 7prc.
The mils stay true and adjust to the zoom. So it does behave similarly
@@TexasPlinking interesting.. So the mils stay the same, but the span of the reticle changes. I really like this thing.> I was just about to get an EP4 with the japanese glass.. But I might just get this instead. I have a 6.5creed and 308 that both still need scopes.
We need more Tucker!
Do you have any idea what the recording resolution and frame rates are?
Not a hunter here, but would these be more expensive than the night vision binoculars? Actually, I'm looking for an analog night vision I guess that can zoom in better for that tower you were showing! What is your expertise in this matter? Thx much
Just got mine yesterday. Won't mount on any of my 5 pellet guns. Great for pcp manufacturers lol...now I have to wait for a new FX to show up. Rat videos coming soon 😆
Tucker Rules!
Looks like 10x better then overpriced analog "true" nigh vision
Thank you 👍
How does it hold up on a 308 platform? That can be a lot of punishment on an optics.
lol. Come on man. You got a post there to stable. Good stuff once again
Yes it is
I miss Rush Limbaugh.🇺🇲🗽
And Epstein didn't off himself.
Man watching this turned my damn stomach shaking the video like that.
What would I need to mount that to a dovetail? My Henry .22 lever...
How would you compare this to the new holosun Drs NV
Bottom line one is night vision the other is a infrared camera. Has to have a infrared light source
Nice review! (mine is being shipped). Subbed!😊
You had a column right there to steady yourself, right?
Blah blah blah
@@TexasPlinking really?
#OUTSTANDING VIDEO THANK YOU SIR 🎯🎯
With the Zulu will you see an IR laser ?
