  • In this video, I paint some relaxing abstract watercolour butterflies and show you how I like to add mark -making over top once the first layers are dry. I also demonstrate a transferred royalty free butterfly image to my art journal, and show I paint it with acrylic paint markers.
I read a page from "How to Be More Tree", and do a little flip through of some pages in both, "The Botanist's Sticker Anthology " book, as well as, "Print & Pattern Nature" book , Bowie Style.
I show a card from my "Art Poetry" for Insights and Inspiration art deck,
    Available at www.allisondaw...
I talk about my art inspiration in the moment and we just explore relaxing art techniques together.
I use "Beam " paintstones as my watercolour palette:
    www.beampaints...
Royalty free butterfly image from the Biodiversity Heritage Library.
    Black transfer paper
    Book mentions:
"How to Be More Tree", Illustrated by Annie Davidson
Print & Pattern Nature, by Bowie Style
Coil 98 lb Canson XL mixed media book (watercolour journal).
    Mark making tools:
    Pencil
Studio gel . 5mm permanent pen (Dollarama Canada)
Posca paint pens in bronze (medium point) and aqua green.
Princeton flat and round number 12 watercolour brush
Crayola round number (large) watercolour brush (Dollarama Canada)
I used my "Masterson's Stay Wet " small palette, and the palette paper for collage.

Another great encouragement to play and experiment and not make it all too complicated. Thank you Allison!🙏💕

I think you're such a brave and generous soul by sharing your thoughts and your rabbit trails. 😊 I find you very inspiring. The other day I tried your doodling and markings over some watercolor play I had put on some paper. I got the best flowers and leaves. All my girls commented on my art. ❤ I look forward to playing with butterflies now.

I love watching your process. The butterfly collage at the end is fascinating.
I'm currently swatching out Derwent drawing pencils 24 set from my mini art haul this month.

I started a full life reset in April. I am almost done the physical reset. It has been cathartic. The only criteria - does it bring me joy, does it have use? If not - donate. Two car loads later... lol. But it is such a wonderful feeling!

I’ve been practicing in a cheap journal & doing some of your designs this week. I am finishing up an 8- week watercolor class. And I see that is also repetitive enough to become a meditation❗️

I really love your butterflies. Thanks for all the wonderful tips. When I work on my art or take a walk outdoors I relax and clear my mind. I am in the flow or zone. Being in the present moment and nothing else matters. 😊

Allison just about your plastic watercolour palette. You are actually right you do put the tube wet watercolours in those little divots around the edge and then you use the flat large surfaces for mixing if you want to. You don’t use the small little divots to mixture colours, I’ve never seen that done before and I’ve been doing watercolour for a few decades. Sometimes artists will put the paint right at the edge of the slots and let it dry so that they can do a large wash and water down colour in the deeper part.

Thank you!! I did not know this despite watching so many watercolour videos over the years. I SO appreciate you sharing your knowledge and reassurance. xx

There are three major differences between moths and butterflies, butterflies close their wings up together, giving them height. Where is the mouth closes their wings like a bird over their body and make some small. Moss antennas look like ferns and have a little fiddly bits that come off them in most cases, butterflies have that normal thin, curly antenna also just generally speaking moths are of the night and butterflies are of the day and I think Polynation may have a factor to, although I’m uncertain I have been obsessed with butterflies since I was 14 years old. They helped me into recovery from an eating disorder, how they are all unique in their own beauty.

wow, this is beautiful and such a thoughtful comment. I appreciate you watching my videos and taking the time to share your knowledge and vulnerability. How incredible that you feel butterflies helped your recovery... mother nature is the most amazing thing, isn't it? sending love and creativity back your way.

This is so fun... And freeing! Thank you!! It's been such a delight looking forward to these daily practices! I'm sure you mentioned it, but how do you adhere your watercolor collage onto pieces without activating the collage piece? If you just adhere the bottom, how do you seal the piece? 🤔

i often put the gel medium on both sides. sometimes i just use a UHU glue stick for journal collage.
