I feel truly happy for this family when I found at the end of this video that both dad and mom were able to find jobs in LA, and their daughter got enrolled into a local high school.
What a gut wrenching story. They seem to be able to maintain a positive outlook throughout their journey. Their resolute and tenacity are what got them through, I imagine. Glad to see them eventually made it and are now settling down. I can not fathom what the 13 YO kid has to go through. I wish this family the best.
@@danielwells774You clearly are unable to distinguish between asylum seeking and normal illegal immigration. People have been escaping communist countries and religious persecution for a hundred years. There is no way to "legally" immigrate, the way your weak little mind imagines it, because their country of origin wouldn't allow it. You think a communist nation or a dictatorship is going to happily allow families to apply for asylum in another country but just hang out at home waiting for it to be approved? Think again. That's why America and other Western nations have always allowed asylum seekers to escape from their home countries and await approval while in the US (or other Western nation.)
Do you know why some of these people want to leave mainland China? Many of them are actually trying to escape massive debts from gambling or failed businesses, avoiding their responsibilities. Some have criminl records and can’t find legitimate jobs. That’s why they secretly take their families and leave. They bring their kids along because criminal gangs are less likely to harm families with children. In reality, it’s nothing like the noble reasons they boast about in their videos. They don’t deserve sympathy, and you shouldn’t let their stories mislead you.

@juneyi187: How does medical care and education work in China? Is education free? Is the cost of living reasonable for everyone? What are the pros and cons of health care in China? Cost, timlieness/speed of appointments, diagnosis, treatment, preventative care, acute emergency care?
China has very low wages and that's the biggest motivator for people who want to leave the country. In the U.S they can work a restaurant job for 11 hours a day and make 4.5k a month as a cook. When you spend all your waking hours and days working you won't even spend any of that money and then after a few decades you'll be able to buy a house.
@@ponuni In this case it appars the reason to leave is religious. The US is extremely over-rated. Many foreigners move her only to realize they made a mistake and there is no more "American Dream" because it is not possible to attain. That was decades ago. I'd like to hear the response from *@juneyi187*. There is a lot of mis-information in western media that demonizes China. Foreigners living in China and visiting China are learning just how misinformed they have been. Many staying longer than planned, planning on future visits, or planning to move to China because it is better than the United States or the UK.
6:41 In Chinese, "我害怕死了" doesn't mean that I'm afraid of death. It's just an exaggerated way to say "I'm really scared" or "I'm terrified." It’s a common expression used to emphasize extreme fear, not a literal fear of dying Another example is "我緊張死了," which means "I'm extremely nervous" or "I'm so nervous."
China has a 9-year compulsory education system. If parents do not send their children to formal public or private schools for education, it is illegal and they will be fined.
It’s pretty ironic their daughter attending catholic school was so “important” they’d “walk the line” for that “freedom”, but now they’re in the US the girl’s just enrolled a regular local high school 😂
@@pinkcichlid that ridiculous term of freedom is the result of the brainwashing program in some Catholic churches. Unlike China, Catholic is legally recognized here in Vietnam but they are not satisfied, they still get angry and go to the road protesting to call for "freedom" and complain about how they were "suppressed" when the government plan to zone some of the church's land for schools and public construction.
I watched their journey on a different YT channel. It was pretty intense and dangerous, but im so glad they made it safely. Some of the others drowned or got captured by border patrol or immigration.
There was a Chinese woman who wrote that she and her kid diverted to Mexico after leaving China by air. They bought air tickets to Tijuana, joined a ‘tour group’ there who dropped them near the border and they just spent 20 mins walking to the US border. Total cost is less than $10k.
@@LillyLite Not sure about the visa issue but there are Chinese who go to Mexico for holidays as well. I’m just curious why she seems to be the only one taking this route because it does look feasible
As a Hongkonger lived in mainland for 10 years plus I didn’t really see the reason they are moving outside because of church ? Church is definitely allowed in mainland. Even if you don’t appreciate the way Chinese education systems work. You could always pay premium to enter international schools that are operated inside mainland.
they just pulled up "christian" and "anti communist" card to get green card, they forgot they look chinese , I wonder how long before they got beaten up randomly in US
I am a foreigner who lived in Mainland China for a few years not in Hong Kong. I’ve met some people who think seriously about leaving others who are actively trying and some people who I think contemplate it quietly. Not universal, but a huge aspect of discontent is the pressure to conform (often focused around some aspect like religion, politics, social norms). You see this also in how many people who leave for the West become disillusioned because that pressure still exists just differently and I’d say substantially less. If you don’t understand it’s usually because you either naturally conform, do not mind conforming, or view it as an obviously worthwhile tradeoff. I think many comments here are missing the sincerity of these sentiments. You perceive religion as allowed, but that’s conditioned on conformance. Virtually every religiously active person I’ve met in China perceives thieve conditions as being actively adjusted depending on individual and collective action.
They don't seem to have thought through or planned through the trek, as if driven by blind faith and supposition. I hope they do well after such trials and tribulations, but the reality is, if you ever been to the States, based on their skill sets and naivety , it will be an uphill battle in the USA, more so I guess vs their hometown. There is something odd about their recounting of their story, why di the parents send their daughter to an illegal "Church" school when the education system , like where they are from , Cheng Du, are a relatively well developed region with well funded free public schools. I feel again it is religiosity at play here, warping what could have been a good life in China. It does seem the family is relatively well off judging by how they could afford many amenities at the start of the journey. And at the same time, the parents did not once mention economic hardship at home... the power of Hollywood and word of mouth, I guess, chasing the "American Dream". So this was documented before the current context... I think America is headed towards a repeat of the "yellow peril" era, due to their policies and politicians. Its going to get tough for such Chinese immigrants
China is definitely not the paradise as advertised, but if you compare it to Africa/Southeast Asia/South America/Mexico, then China is indeed a paradise. He definitely learned his knowledge from UA-cam. As we all know, there can't be church schools in China. It is a very bitter memory for China, which reminds people of the story of the Opium War.
@@亦先汪 Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, it's his choice, but I suppose his blind faith and gamble got the family there. On the other hand though, he could well had imperiled his family, like the corpse they reported to have seen. Its definitely blind faith and dumb luck. I guess, based on your opinion, from your comment, you also agree that his decisions are based on poor judgement, clouded by some religious sentiment that is not grounded in reality. I bet the dad got into trouble with the authorities, not because he attended a "church" school, but because he prevented his child from attending school and getting an education. This, I recall, is illegal in China. Again, this hints of some form of serious disillusionment on part of the dad. Plenty of people in China gets a formal education, but end up still practicing Christianity, attending Church, and live a life without harassment from the authorities. It goes to suggest that, the parents must have a pretty extreme religious minded position, or a warped sense of "politics or freedom" to end up deciding to prevent a child from attending schools, and in turn go about making religion the central motivation for taking such a dangerous trek to "freedom". I watch somewhere (a video by a UK expat in China) that the government of China has no beef with Christianity and Churches, but are vehemently sensitive of any religion that has accult tendencies, or sends religious adherents against the state. I guess, the only indoctrination is reserved for the State, like any nation, USA included. If we take a deeper analysis into this family's story, I guess it's also a way for the family to get a "get out of jail free card to the express lane to get asylum in the USA, just by citing the "CCP" for "persecution". I'm sure the USA immigration agents would have been excited to have a case like this. Makes good propaganda out for USA. But that's said, still glad the family found their "religious freedom" in the USA and have their child in USA public schools and have some starter jobs in USA. It's clear they just didn't fit into China's "collectivism with Chinese characteristics". Most Chinese citizens who wants a different type of life and political system would have worked hard for it, and migrated the official way, but this family probably didn't have the heart, mind set or the means to do it that official way. Perhaps they're too fixated with their perceived "persecution" which sidetracks them into dangerous missions like this.
I think it was fear of the government or religion since the CCP hates religion. They have the money to survive but they don't want to live no more in a government constantly putting them down
I just searched online and with their Passport they could have saved almost 90 percent of their money if they just booked a flight from shanghai to Nassau in the Bahamas because theirs visa free travel to the Bahamian country not to mention it;'s also the cheapest flight compare to other Caribbean countries and the closest to the us.
This is an amazing and deeply touching story. I even started googling if/how I could help them when I was watching the show. Wish them the best. They are everything this country is all about.
the parent are adult, they can do what they want with their life, but putting their 13 years old daughter's life at risk, I really doubt it. what if something happen to their daughter? they still feel their freedom? I have been living in US for 20 years. now in Canada for 30 more. US is not what they think.
Agreed. They have a safer life in China where women can walk at night alone and feel safe. *Freedom to feel safe* walking around does not exist in America like it does in China. Watch videos of foreigners living in China and foreigners visiting China. Then you'll understand.
How the hell is the daughter allowed to go to a publicly funded highschool and both parents work without any restrictions? Also why the hell did border patrol release them?!?!? Nothing here makes sense, like there's no consequences?

As an Australian, I think immigrants have a better shot here as our health and education are cheaper plus I like to think that we are less racist, well racism isn't socially accepted. Wish this family the best too.
I'm Chinese living in Mainland China. I work as a teacher, my life here is not good, and not bad, just so so. I don't understand how good life is in the US, why it's worth risking their life to go there like the family from Chengdu. I'm from Sichuan too. I will never do that like the family in the show. Whether I like China or not, I will always live in China, and take the good and the bad. Luckily things are getting better in China.
You are a patriot. People need to stay in their country to work and better the lives of their countrymen. If everyone wants to leave and just go to an already developed country then that causes an excess brain drain and hinders the advancements of the country they’re leaving behind. This is partly why third world countries tend to always remain poor. China progressed greatly in the past few decades right? However there are some people who thinks they deserve more.

There is no religion restrictions in China. They only say this because they know this is what the west and western media wants to hear. And they say this because they think it acts in their favours when it comes to US Home Office.
"From the frying pan into the fire" is the first thought that came to mind about this family's story, coupled by, "The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence". This family has absolutely NO IDEA what it is really like living in the U.S. without much money - and health. They see only the bright side seen in UA-cam and Telegram - social medias. They didn't talk to actual Americans who fled the U.s. to live in China and there are many of them in the larger cities. My own parents supported and went to the U.S. from Malaysia because of my father;'s fond memories of a U.S. he was educated in as a young man - in the mid-1930s and 1940s but certainly altered into an uglier side by the time the 1980s rolled around. He remembered great U.S. Presidents like FDR, but never thought that his successors would be radically different to his social policies. My father died from cancer in the U.S. - discovered too late because he didn't have enough money for regular medical checkups and he was declared "too old with pre-existing conditions" for insurance companies to want take him on and so, he had no medical insurance. This is one of the realities of living in the U.S.
You have absolutely no idea what it is like living in China. Certainly worse than living in the frying pan. Oh yes, they know what the US is like, from the constant propaganda of their government about US shooting, drugs etc.
"They didn't talk to actual Americans who fled the U.s. to live in China and there are many of them in the larger cities. " 😆😆😆 CCP leash is too tight! Your brain is generating nonsense!
Also to be fair what do you think would your father had as treatment back in malaysia at that time ?xD cure dor cancer? I watched the entire 3-part documentary. It was something I’ve never seen before. The anxiety as they keep progressing towards the border and the changes in their appearance shows that they’ve been through a lot. It felt like a movie except it’s not a movie, it was real life. I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
I understand wanting a better life… everyone in the world wants a better life. But what about all the Chinese who are in line to migrate the lawful way? This family broke laws to come to America, they should not be praised. Breaking laws does not come with a reward. More than likely they will be deported at some point and not allowed back in to America ever again.
Ask Ai Wei Wei. He was loved by Americans when he was anti China. When he voiced out against the Isrealis war against Hamas and Palestinians…..he was sidelined. His shows were cancelled. Western propaganda can be very persuasive. Anyway, I wish him the best of luck.

@SivalinPuthery Your complaint here doesn't seem to be about freedoms, but about safety. More freedoms=more risks. More safety=Less freedom. The challenge is to strike the right balance, and different people have different ideas about where that balance should be. It seems clear that Americans value freedom higher than safety. They believe that safety is the responsibility of the individual, while the government should guarantee freedom. Most Asian countries value safety higher than freedom.
Church schools are indeed illegal in China because the government forbid preaching to citizens under 18. Even parents taking children to religious places, except for tourism reasons like visiting a popular ancient temple, is technically not allowed. Although this is not strictly enforced apart from Xinjiang. Anything related to the Falun Gong stuff like "organ harvesting" is with hearsay evidence at best, if not straightforward lies. But underground Christian/Islamic schools and the banning of such schools is a real thing in China.
It’s actually hard to believe someone from major city in China with sufficient funds to pay for the trip would risk their lives to do this. This is type of people that betrayed their home country n disrupted the other country by illegally entering. This action should not be encouraged.
I hope the family makes it and have a good life in the US, stay strong! This documentary shows us to be grateful to the things which are normal for us but a blessing to someone else
this father likes to do illegal things. send his daughter to an illegal church. then going into US illegally. I bet he is wanted by authorities in China for illegal stuffs. That is why he is desperate to leave China.
As much as i want everybody to live a good life i still can't agree with going into any country illegally. Sorry if that pisses people off but both sides of my family came here legally and if we don't demand people to come here legally like the way its going now we end up with other countries criminals other countries drug dealers gun runners gang members etc. it also allows increased amounts of illegal fentanyl to enter this country. We americans are just as important as good people trying to come to here. We deserve security. The fact of the matter is that we cannot save everybody but if they come to this country legally we have a better chance of helping the people who are truly in danger in the birth country but because of the illegal crossing they are taking the resources away from truly needy people and putting our legal citizens in danger.
Most PRC people are 'fake religion believers', some may have certain level of faiths, but only about 20% or 30% compared to those who truly practice religions. These '润‘ folks are true Christians, which is why they wanted to flee, just as Uighurs who are largely true Muslims, and Tibetans and Mongolians are true Buddhists. CCP promotes atheism and doesn't like to see religious faiths, which is why they have been continuously removing contents about Taoism, Buddhism, and so on, from PRC media websites.
I watched the whole 3-part doc. It's nice to see this family have all gotten jobs or are in school. They may not get rich, but I think they will do fairly well over the next few decades.

I know many commenting here will not understand, but I’ll try to explain as simply as possible to those who have an open mind. Christianity is “legal” only on a superficial basis in China, which is ruled by an officially atheist CCP. There largely exists two types of churches in China - the state sanctioned church and the underground church. To belong to the state sanctioned church, you must fundamentally acknowledge that the CCP government is the authority above all else, including Jesus. To belong to the underground church, you simply believe that Jesus is Lord. The CCP authorities will of course say that religious freedom exists in China and cite the large number of state sanctioned churches, without ever mentioning that many underground church leaders have experienced various forms of discrimination, hardship and even jail terms for simply trying to live faithfully according to what the Bible actually says, that God is supreme over any human government. On that basis, I completely understand the father’s desperation to get out of a country that may be wonderful for any atheist who doesn’t care, but a prison to those who to wish practise their faith freely. I don’t know if California is the best place to run to because there are other negative influences for people of faith to be aware of, but there you go…

THE CHRIST WAS NOT A CAPITALIST!
I'm American and Christian. I'm very blessed to be to be able to practice my faith without persecution in this nation. But for foreigners coming here for economic opportunities. You better really have a serious plan because America is expensive and daily living expenses like rent, food, cars ect are outpacing wages here. Many Americans are financially struggling, let alone a foreigner with a language barrier, no work documents, even if your educated, your education may not even be accepted here in America. Putting you at the lower end of wages in this society...sometimes you may be better off where your coming from if you invest the same time and money into improving where you are in the nation your born in. Choose well.
They're gonna work for other Chinese immigrants who own Asian restaurants. There's not going to be a language barrier. Most Chinese immigrants don't end up working in farms and construction like the Hispanic ones because they work for their own people who came before them.
They were evicted and basically under persecution. Sometimes they won’t even be able to work. So honestly I get why they took the risk and I pray for their journey, and that God extend his in their favor.
"Your education may not be accepted here in america ..." no truer words are written. My father was a pharmacist, educated and graduated from the University of Columbia, USA but he migrated overseas for many decades before returning to the U.s.. By that time, his qualifications from the U.S. and overseas equivalents, were no longer recognized in the U.S. and he would have to retake the exams to re-qualify is he wanted his licence in the U.S. Also, my sister graduated as a medical doctor, specializing in geriatric medicine from the University of Singapore which qualifications are even recognized in the U.K. - but not in the U.S. So, someone from China with little to no english speaking background, little to no qualifications, little money, no connections, sneaking into the U.S. with no legal documents and where the hiring of illegals is actually punishable by law - wow. The thought is staggeringly amazing - these people are either delusional, foolish, naive, and gullible all wrapped up in one nice neat package - or really, really desperate - and I tend to think that they are in the former "nice, neat package". In any case, let these discover the truth for themselves. China already has far too many mouths to feed and clothe and losing a few thousand dis-satisfied malcontents, is no loss and definitely no pity or even prayers for them.
In leftist states like CA, they'll get free housing, food, medical care, even a funded debit card, etc....all on tax payer's money! While we have homelessness all over SF and LA, the illegals take precedents over citizens here.

Vietnam used to have this kind of people back in the 70s and 80s. They are call boat people. Many are not even oppressed but are too politically indoctrinated, baseless fear or simply looking for better economic prospect led to rash actions. It's stomach churning the horrible ordeals journey many people went through and how the international community did little to help protect them from pirates. @@pinkcichlid that ridiculous term of freedom is the result of the brainwashing program in some Catholic churches. Excuse and lie
they just pulled up "christian" and "anti communist" card to get green card, they forgot they look chinese , I wonder how long before they got beaten up randomly in US
I am a foreigner who lived in Mainland China for a few years not in Hong Kong.
They have the money to survive but they don't want to live no more in a government constantly putting them down
They will quickly find out the “American Dream” no longer exist and anti-Asian sentiment is prevalent and violence increasing.

It seems clear that Americans value freedom higher than safety. They believe that safety is the responsibility of the individual, while the government should guarantee freedom. Most Asian countries value safety higher than freedom.
Something tells me the "church school" story was adopted from his research on YT and Telegram.
People need an excuse to do what they do. basically all of them went for economic reason.

He is so sweet, what a great father.
I'm curious what religion they are... did I miss that? Cuz I have Christian friends in China. Dont seem to have an issue.
100% cult. You know, those who want your property, body, and mind in the name of god.

A rash man who risked his family's safety.. at one point of their journey, the entire family was strip-searched by bandits which a woman of their party disclosed while his wife/daughter remained silent and he looked embarrassed.. I hope the wife/daughter were not sexually assaulted.. how traumatizing it must have been for the young teenaged daughter and what a irresponsible rash father to subject his family to this. If God made it so difficult, maybe He doesn't want you to go. USA is poor now and racially biased, he has not gotten his facts right. I cringed every time this rash man speaks. Remember "only fools rush in" ...
The USA is not poor or racially biased. The USA is one of the richest countries in the world and one of the least racist and most accepting of immigrants. However, we do not want people who try to come here illegally. Follow the law or don't come. There is also a housing crisis here, so we don't want too many people to show up and make it worse.
I have lived in The US for 30 years and it's nothing like what people think it would be. If I can turn back time, I will never come to the US and go somewhere else instead. There are so many crimes and people are so racist here.
You could always go back. Just saying…

I don’t know if California is the best place to run to because there are other negative influences for people of faith to be aware of, but there you go…
While the educated know that thousands of Americans live in China, MOST ARE CHRISTIANS including me - I'm a Roman Catholic from South Africa with the BRICS. YOUR UNCLE SAM'S BOGEYMAN CCP, which is the CPC COMMUNIST PARTY OF CHINA, was founded by the partnership of the SOUTH AFRICAN COMMUNIST PARTY in 1921, due to the fact that the fishing village, RESOURCE-POOR HONG KONG, was built by the BRITISH RULE WHO IS ANGLO AMERICAN INVESTMENTS founding partners of OPPENHEIMER GROUP, who founded the FIRST AFRICAN CENTRAL BANK in South Africa, controlling ALL AFRICAN CENTRAL BANKS. It's no big secret that the RESOURCE-POOR HONG KONG was built as a free-market capitalist model with an exceptional smuggling port providing the world with blood-diamonds and conflict minerals from the African continent, powering the dull currency Hong Kong dollar tied to the RESOURCE-POOR UNITED KINGDOM Pound and then to the RESOURCE-POOR UNITED STATES dollar since 1983. Therefore, the RESOURCE-BASED COUNTRIES BRICS RISING AS A MULTIPOLAR WORLD rejecting the US dollar reserve status will have Uncle Sam's puppets commenting on CCP B.S.
Uncle Sam's puppets DON'T KNOW THAT THE RESOURCE-POOR UNITED STATES dollar is FORCED on resource-based countries as the WORLD'S RESERVE CURRENCY, powering the WORLD BANK funding NATO military weapons investments from the time of the BRETTON WOODS AGREEMENT. ALL THE RESOURCES WHICH THE RESOURCE-POOR UNITED STATES DEPENDS ON FOR ELECTRONICS, TECHNOLOGY, AND MILITARY WEAPONS INVESTMENTS ARE FROM AFRICAN AND MIDDLE EASTERN COUNTRIES WHO HAVE JOINED YOUR UNCLE SAM'S BOGEYMAN, COMMUNIST BRICS (Brazil, RUSSIA, India, CHINA, South Africa representing AFRICAN UNION)!
MAKE UP B.S. for your Uncle Sam ALL YOU WANT, the resource-based countries BRICS and BRICS PLUS (AFRICAN and MIDDLE EASTERN COUNTRIES) are rising strong without the US dollar, which in effect has caused the RESOURCE-POOR UNITED STATES to have an over $30 trillion federal debt, with the economy affected by galloping inflation. Surveys reveal Americans are 3 paychecks from being homeless. It is no surprise that educated, wealthy Americans have been transferring their investments to the low-tax haven China, with the BRICS investments --- while YOU'RE POOR typing B.S. online with a technology device provided by resource-poor United States tech corporations dependent on manufacturing in China, with the resources from African countries.
Further, YOUR BOGEMAN CHINA BELIEVES IN BUDDHISM, and with firm belief in REINCARNATION, no different from the SAINTS OF CATHOLICISM and Judaism. There are karmic effects of being your Uncle Sam's puppet as a capitalist plague on the earth's resources, like Judaism and their belief that the modern-day Roman Empire is the United States, which is scheduled to collapse, and most souls who didn't have good value while on earth will descend to the animal kingdom, with lesser world populations dependent on capitalisms destroying the earth. THE CHRIST WAS NOT A CAPITALIST!
Sounds like a narcissistic Chinese government to me.
Thank God they reach there safely.. praying the best for them
I'm American and Christian.
@jessicapenaloza9321 they could go to other Asian countries. But no, they want to go to the USA for economic reasons. They are criminals.
In leftist states like CA, they'll get free housing, food, medical care, even a funded debit card, etc....all on tax payer's money! While we have homelessness all over SF and LA, the illegals take precedents over citizens here.
