You are my savior! Your videos allowed me and my son to know exactly what to expect when we replaced the pump in his '92 YJ! Thank you for your excellent videos! You've gained 2 followers!
Watching your videos gave me the confidence to do the work myself, thanks! My 30 year old 1994 YJ 2.5L had the same fuel leak issue. I don't drive it much anymore except to close by erand runs. For sure, installing back on is way harder than taking if off. To lift the tank & skid plate, I slowly stack 2x4 one pc and one side at a time. I hope all goes well but after just 1 day - no leaks!
Another successful job Dale . Makes you nervous though when you are cranking it up , like please start , please start , Yes it started . I always get nervous when first trying to start a vehicle once I replace the fuel pump . To many defective ones out there and pulling a tank out twice is not my idea of fun . Take care and be safe my friend .
Awesome man, nice jeep. I was looking for guidance fuel pump started making whining sound and some slight leak on top of tank cant see where from. This is go to vid. Really awesome 👍
Buddy, Thabkyou so much. This really helped me out! I am hoping to pick up a 92 YJ that needs a fuel pump to run and this made me much more confident. Thankyou so much, I will be sure to let you know how the Installion goes! You have a gained a full time fallower!! 🤙🤝
So my YJ has been running pretty rough, but seems to be happier when the fuel tank is fuller...I'm gonna clean out the carb jets first to see if that fixes it (I just replaced the filler hose and filled the tank to test for leaks), but maybe once I've got her run down I'll drop the tank and check out the fuel pump. And here I was thinking I was running out of things that I needed to fuss with. Thanks for the videos, keep 'em coming, but remember to give yourself some rest time too.
Nice job, pulled my tank twice in 1 year so I appreciate the job- seriously considered cutting an access panel in the floor for next time i need to replace the pump but i had just monster lined the inside and did not have an extra floor panel to make an over sized hatch- nest time i will lol
Wow, you made that look easy. Question - my 87 YJ is not reading fuel levels. The gauge is permanently stuck on full (or, occasionally it'll read empty), no matter how much gas is in it. By replacing this sending unit, do you think that will reset the gauge to start getting accurate readings?
I changed the fuel pump of my 95 jeep wrangler thanks to your directions , thanks!! But the jeep is not responding properly, it wont pass first gear because it chokes,it's like is not getting gas enough, any suggestions on what can be the problem?
Great video set, just had to replace the fuel line on a 95, however, now the jeep won't start. Is it typical for the fuel pump to cycle for about 2 seconds and shut off? been trying to start for about an hour, cycle on and off 2-3 times, no start. Wait 10-15 minutes so I don't burn up the starter, and no start. Wondering if I put the fuel lines on incorrect and best way to check that? any help would be appreciated
Hey so my jeep has just started to make a noise in the back and today i had it bog down and not recover for a long time and at the same time i heard a loud noise in the back sounds like a fuel pump going bad. but my issue and or question is my is a 4 banger will that pump you have work for mine I dont think i have a 20 gallon take i think my is more like 12 to 15 gallons not sure I always fill it up but don't really pay attention to how much goes in to the tank Mine is a 94 jeep wrangler YJ but it has a brand new 4 banger in it and no power steering soft top. Thank you for the video. As a monthly Box Wrenchers member I watch all your videos and find them extremely helpful. What is the best way for a member to make a video request ... Patreon or level up to Impact Driver? I own a 1988 Jeep YJ (2nd one) and it has the "bouncing fuel gauge" issue and from what I can tell this is a common problem so I'm sure others will want to know. The gauge needle bounces around about 1/4 of where fuel level is when I'm driving assuming caused by gas splashing around in tank. When I start up jeep or while sitting still my gauge needle will be pointing at the correct fuel level. Example: If I have 1/2 a tank of fuel and sitting still the needle will read correctly 1/2. But when I start driving around it will bounce between 1/4 and 3/4 until I stop and the fuel settles down. It's my understanding, it's a broken piece of "baffling" in the fuel tank where the fuel pump sits but I could be wrong. I welcome your insight and will make a Patreon ELITE donation if this helps :) Thanks again for all the time and work you put into you videos ... please keep making them.
Hey! Thank you for support on Patreon! I get what you’re saying on the gauge bouncing around. I’m sure it’s an issue with the sending unit, but I’d have to research it
Hello Dale, this video and the fuel tank video have been a huge help, thanks! Unrelated question, do you know what kind of doors you have on your Jeep? Are they Jeep half doors with a hard upper section or? Looking to get a set for my sons Jeep.
Dale is this for a 2.4 or 4.0 I am trying to find a video on a fuel pump replacement for a 1990 yj with throttle body fuel injection… not fuel line fuel injection
Hi Dale - another Dale here. Used your video on how to remove the tank on my '92 YJ yesterday. Success! New fuel pump (and gasket) should be here tomorrow. Are your new fuel line hoses slightly different sizes for attaching to the metal tips coming out of the new fuel pump assembly? Thanks for your work on UA-cam and in advance for answering my question.
Hello from Mexico, I noticed that my 1993 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 engine is equipped with a 15-gallon fuel tank and the pump you used is designed for a 20-gallon tank, could this affect its operation? The pump failed and the tank is in perfect condition.
Just wanted to ask where you connected each hose, im doing this on my yj but i just dont remember which is the send and return line and i dont want to put it wrong
My pump is less under two years old and now I have long cranks after an at temp start. I think it’s the pump. Don’t think it’s a crank position sensor.
Great video. Anyone ordered from the link on the pump? I did and received a totally different pump, all made out of plastic. Pushing back the wknd project -_-
This is very timely for me. I had my fuel line crack in the same place. Pulled the tank and the skid plate was rusted in 2 pieces. I decided it was a good time to weld a patch on the frame at the rear shackle. Then I noticed missing body mounts. Long story short my Jeep is all over the driveway. With all this money going into it I am torn if I should go ahead and replace the fuel pump. Is this the one you put 4 hole injectors in?
If you’re not sure how many gallons it takes to fill your tank, you could always take your VIN and look up your vehicle specifics online with a vin reading site.
I guess I’d check fuel and spark next. There’s a few things that can affect starting, that could be issue until cooled off. Could check fuel pressure, or spray some starter fluid into throttle. If it tries to start with starter fluid, you know you have a fuel delivery issue. Or spark, coil could be acting up when hot. I’d check spark too.
Hey Dale, What is the update on the pump and sending unit? The reviews on the Amazon pump in your description are horrible. In fact, the reviews on almost every pump and sending unit are horrible. -Tim. '95 YJ 2.5L
Currently restoring my '93YJ that my son gave to me ; it has 206k miles and a fuel pump replacement is also in order. Thanks for posting!

Thanks for your videos. They are such a big help. Currently in thr process of replace my fuel pump. Have to wait on gasket from Amazon.
My 89 YJ with the 4.2 still has the fuel pump on the side of the block. 10 minute job on a bad day.
I have a 90 yj . fuel pump easy but my fuel lines are leaking .
@@stevealvis7068 all or just a few?

Have you run into any problems with the pump yet? I saw some bad reviews on Amazon and I’m kinda iffy about buying it
Thanks for the video. If you can remember, what size were the fuel lines from the pump?
love your videos

What happened to the transmission jack that you had when you dropped the tank?

Same issue. Idk what to do won’t start and I flip the lines
Will this fuel pump work for 15 gallon tanks or only 20 gallon?

what is the torque for the gas pump?
Do they matter which line goes to with tip on the fuel pump ?
Yes. 1 is supply. Other is return
@jeepsolid will this fit a 20gal tank for the 2.5L ?
Would it be the same fuel pump process for the 1987? New Jeep YJ Owner here
A 1987 will probably have a mechanical fuel pump so much easier
Just wanted to ask where you connected each hose, im doing this on my yj but i just dont remember which is the send and return line and i dont want to put it wrong

Hey! That's great! Glad the timing is good. 👍🏽 The 4 hole injectors went on my other YJ.
I am thinking about those to boost my 2.5. I read something about upgrading the fuel pump too.
Love the videos brotha I have a 90 yj. Is the instalation the same for both years??
Should be very similar
Did you end replacing your 90yj fuel pump? I have the same year and that is my next task.

yup! it was super easy.
What pump brand do you recommend?
I included the link to the pump I used in the video. It has done well. No issues with it.
Where do I get a fuel line for 1993 Jeep Wrangler 4.0. Hose by the door to the engine.
Nobody has fuel lines for that old of a jeep.
How to tell what size tank u have ? I have a 94 2.5

My 95 yj won't start until it cools off after driving, figured I ask a professional.
That stinks. Could be a number of things, It runs fine until you shut it off? Then cranks but no start?
That's correct and I've changed all the sensors.
