    Wouldn't it have been a wonderful idea by Jeep and Chrysler to actually have put a little door a place in the floor right above the gas tank where you could access the fuel pump that sits inside of a gas tank. The problem being is engineers don't learn how to work on things they just learn it in a book and put it together that way. Thanks for the tips and always there's a better mouse trap through the floor why couldn't the engineers have thought of that. Thanks again great video.

    Hey man. I just pulled this off with my 93 YJ and I want to thank you for the insight. I did it alone in the dirt but referencing your videos really helped and the jeep runs better now than it did 15 years ago. When I removed the sending unit the gasket was garbage and I’m thinking this didn’t help at all. Putting the tank back in wasn’t easy but using your video site helped. Thank you.

    One of the common issues with the yjs, is the lines going soft and the poly tanks getting cracks and soft. A friend of mine who worked for the refineries out here, told me the ethanol has permeated the entire fuel supply and the older vehicles weren’t equipped for the ethanol and it is the main cause of fuel line and tank failures.

    The best way I've found to put a tank back in is to use two wide belt racket straps. Hook up to rear axle, go under the tank, and hook racket to the roll bar in the middle of the roof line. Grab both rachets and start cranking. Where this versus a jack is when you have to apply so real force (and maybe a few swift kicks) to the tank to get it back into place.

      That sounds like a good method! I wrestled mine back in yesterday. Was a pain, but got it done.

    Thanks for the video. It definitely helped. As some others have said, if you have to replace the fuel pump and you don’t know when the last time these hoses were replaced, I would suggest replacing while you have the tank down. I recently replaced the pump on a 1994 YJ that hasn’t ran in close to 10 years. I got it all back together, the tank back in and it cranked and seemed to be running well after a few mins. I was so glad to hear it run again after a decade of sitting there. Then, I noticed it was leaking fuel from somewhere. Turned out to be the supply line. So, I had to drop the tank again last night. I got the hoses off and will be replacing both in the next day or so. I also went ahead and cut an access hole last night, so hopefully I don’t have to drop the tank again. It’s not too bad especially if you have a helper. I’m just glad I got the thing running again. But, I wished I would have saw this video prior before I dropped it the first time. Also, both the supply hose and return lines I pulled off of the tank say they are 5/16. I’ve read several different opinions on the hose sizes such as 3/8. But, both were 5/16 on mine. Not sure if they were the original hoses or not. I think the 3/8 will work, but I’m glad to get a definite confirmation.

    Easiest way to drain fuel tank is to remove the fuel line at fuel rail, put a hose over the line, remove fuel pump relay and make a little wire jumper from the positive to negative where the relay plugs into. Pump will run until tank is empty then remove the jumper wire.

      Nope. The tank is up between the frame. The frame blocks the access. Taking the tire off accomplishes nothing.

    Just dropped my tank to replace pump. I'm trying to figure out the small vent hose you pulled off. My short one popped off on its own too or was already off. My question is. The one that got pulled off. Mine comes to a. T .... with one side open. Is it supposed to be open or an i missing a cap. Id like to get it right before replacing tank. My concern is water if i was to go that deep. Any help would be appreciated.

    • @JeepSolid
      @JeepSolid  7 місяців тому

      If you’re referring to the vent hose next to the fill inlet, that shouldn’t be open. Should go to gas bezel along with tank fill hose. The metal bezel on the gas cap should have 2 spots. 1 for fill line and other for vent. If that’s not clear, try and catch me live 7:30pm pacific tonight. I have a live stream scheduled. We can chat there

    • @BuckIt00
      @BuckIt00 7 місяців тому

      @@JeepSolid thank you for the response. However im not referring to the fuel bezel. Im referring to the really small lines that are the two sides of the tank. Or top two corners i guess. . The one you removed from top right. Vs the one that pulled out on its own top left.
      On mine the one on the right just before going out of sight towards fuel filter are. Has a T in it. A small or should say short line branches off. Maybe like 2 or 3 inch long. Is left open. Should this be plugged?

    • @JeepSolid
      @JeepSolid  7 місяців тому

      Ah! Ok. I believe those 2 lines went to a charcoal evap canister. Shouldn’t be just open to air. Mine may have been T’ed together?
