She was more of a nuisance than an assistance to the police. Blaming innocent people for being the ripper was extremely dangerous and could have led to injustice.
Exactly what I thought. I don't think she was lying on purpose, but probably was very confused by what happened. In fact, the fact that she was hit in the head with a hammer may have had affected her memory.
Eleanor! This case is really close/personal to me because my grandfather actually worked with the Yorkshire Ripper as a lorry driver for an upholstery company while he was active. He always says that he initially thought they'd caught the wrong guy because he considered him to be really friendly and personable, too much to be a murderer. It's creepy interesting actually being related to someone who was friends/colleagues with an infamous murderer.
Emily T how strange my dad also worked as a lorry driver with the Yorkshire ripper and said the same thing that he thought they got the wrong man because he seemed a decent friendly man
My mum and dad used to own a pub and the day he got caught he drank a few pints in there. He talked to some of the locals and no-one knew they were talking to and drinking with a serial killer. It's terrifying

Could you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do the Ivana Smit case? She was a Dutch model that ‘fell’ naked from a balcony in Malesia after going home with a couple after a night out. At first it was ruled an accident or a suicide but there was SO MUCH PROOF that it wasnt, and it is just a huge coverup by the Malesian police. (There was drugs involved, she had marks on her neck like she was strangled, the balcony was way too high for her to have accidentally fallen from, she was only found by someone hours later while the couple was still in the room, and so were her clothes and shoes,...) Now it turns out that she was already dead before she ‘fell’ off the balcony. Ivana’s family is still persuing this case to get her justice. You should read in on it, it is so interesting and it needs more attention please ❤️ I would love to hear your theories about this case

In 1978 My nanna who lived in Crosland Moor Huddersfield, was walking home from work around 10pm along the main road. A car pulled up along side her and offered her a lift, she said no. He kept driving slowly along side her and then grabbed her arm and tried to pull her inside the car. She managed to get free and ran home. She didn't think it was the Yorkshire ripper at all as he killed prostitutes. It wasn't until Peter was caught and she saw him on TV that she realised who he was.
That's why it's clear he was lying about doing the work of 'god' killing prostitutes. He was trying to get an insanity defence and go to a mental institute with a lenient sentence. I also don't believe it had anything to do with his wife cheating. I think he started young hating women.
He was caught I belive taking a piss, officer started writing his ticket, and he was acting strange, so the copper decided to search his car, and found his murder kit.
The officer who identified him was on his probation period and he came from South Yorkshire so no he never got promoted. If you watch Manhunt - The Yorkshire Ripper he's on it talking about it.
The ginger man interviewed at the start (McCann) came into our school and is acc now a motivational speaker , he spoke of the hard times having his mum killed, he got into drinking and drugs then managed to turn his life around and has 3 kids and is very successful
Wilma McCann was my great auntie. Richard has his own channel and has written two books. He has also spoken out about how Wilma was NOT a prostitute. The media used this to sell more papers however the truth is she may have done things in drink but she was not known for being a prostitute!
My mam was attacked by a man matching the description of the Yorkshire ripper sometime in the late 1970s. She used to work in a pub in Leeds about 10 minutes from city centre and one night she was walking home from work. Usually she would wear trousers to work but this time she was wearing a skirt as her work trousers were in the wash so possibly he thought she was. A prostitute or something. As she was walking along York road she had to go through the underpass to get to the other side of the main road, when she got to the bottom of the stairs just about to walk through the tunnel, a large rock, about the side of a breeze block landed beside her less than a foot away from her. She looked up to see where it had come from and saw a man with dark Curley hair, a beard and moustache. She immediately started running home and was screaming for help, thankfully she ran into two quite large, burley men which helped her get home. I'm not sure if in the moment she knew that it was the Yorkshire ripper but she told me that after this happened to her, another girl was attacked not far from her home about a week later. And of course over time as more of the attacks occurred she realised that it could well have been the Yorkshire ripper. While I find this case incredibly interesting, it kinda hits home with me because I just think how lucky I am that he wasn't successful with his attack on her.

@@littlebug1392 that’s also true and it’s hard to imagine unless you’ve been in that exact situation or similar.. but I don’t think it’s improbable that she managed to remember it at all. And good on her!
fun fact: my granddad was arrested as a suspect. they thought my grandfather was the yorkshire ripper for a hot minute. he used to run for Derbyshire and he’d run across the moors, his car was spotted frequently up there so his name was given in many times. he couldn’t provide an alibi for ages either, so he legitimately could have gone down for it
There is a woman called renee mccrae who lived in Inverness she went missing with her son around about 40 years ago there is a new lead on her case and it is Scotland's longest running missing person case and I would really love you to cover the case it has no coverage and is a rather large case. Thank you xx
my grandad actually ran into the ripper when he was a teenager at the back of my house (that was his childhood home). one day he was walking with his friend and the ripper came up to them asking where the nearest phone box was as his lorry had broken down and he needed to get it repaired. to this day my grandad can still see his face and still remembers that moment. the scariest thing is, that i live not even 5 minutes away from the place where my grandad met the yorkshire ripper.
They questioned my dad in relation to this and my mum was on the same bus with one of the women he murdered, she fell asleep and missed her stop. She should have got off at the same stop as a woman that was murdered and would have run into the Yorkshire ripper. This was scary times in our town (Huddersfield!)
Her daughter committed suicide 10 years or so ago...and they did see a bundle of clothes (or so they thought) which was their mother's body from a distance. As the murder took place behind their house on a playing field 150 yards or so away.
@@amandasparks7813 ME TOO! I'm literally knitting my Christmas gifts while listening to this! I'm also planning on doing a massive sewing project this weekend and planning out which ones I want to put on while sewing.
My grandad was a lorry driver around the time that the Yorkshire Ripper was killing and he predicted that the killer must have been a lorry driver or long distance driver of some sort since he was committing so many murders all over the place but somehow not getting caught! I think thats pretty cool anyway loved the video and loved true crime week!!
Holly Jo My grandad worked for Yorkshire police in the Leeds area and went trying to pull people over and looked through the car looking for someone with the same accent as the hoax phone call
The way those women spoke about the prostitutes saying she wasnt like the others its almost as they had disassociated themselves from the murders because they where only prossies makes me feel abit sick
Shannon Carter right? it’s really sad that there was such a stigma around sex workers, that those women almost seemed to care less about their murders than the girls, almost as if their lives were worth less than hers, just for being sex workers
Maybe it was more that they considered it scarier since "anyone" could be attacked if the ripper was no longer only going after prostitutes, if that makes sense. Especially since prostitutes engage in risky behavior by default: initiating contact with random (skeevy) men, getting into cars/motels with strangers, etcI. For a random woman to be attacked, it WOULD be scarier to "regular" women.
Yeah exactly I noticed that when I saw that lady speak about it I thought it was kinda rude tbh like she was looking down on the prostitutes saying well they are sex workers and this girl whose been killed wasn’t and she didn’t deserve death but the prostitutes did kinda
I lived through this time and it actually was like that, this was, and probably still is, the general view of prostitutes in England and just about everywhere else in the world!.....the case was most likely not given high priority from the start because these women were "only" prostitutes....it only changed when Jane McDonald, a 16 year old schoolgirl, became a victim, she was actually referred to as an innocent victim as opposed to the prostitutes (of what they were quilty of i dont know!) welcome to the world we live in!!
I suspect the Ripper was the one who attacked my late mum. She worked nights in the cotton mill and this one night she was on her way home and this man with a bushy beard and brown curly hair like the Ripper pulled her up and asked her for a light for his cigarette. My mum got her lighter to give him a light and he grabbed her, luckily 2 young men was coming round the corner and saw my mum being attacked, so they shouted at him and asked him what he was doing. He ran off leaving my mum in a right state. Luckily the 2 men brought her home and my dad called Police. Both men gave the officer a description and my mum did same. The description of the attacker resembled the Ripper. My mum refused to work nights and changed to day shifts after that. To this day I often wondered if it was him or just a copy cat. ☹
Tyanne Ojukwu the commenter says their late mother, which means that she’s passed away. Not from this attack, but afterwards. OP, I really am sorry for your loss, though ♡
My dad remembers never letting my grandma leave the house without my grandad even tho we live in Plymouth, he was worried that the ripper would Come down and kill my grandma
After talking about Sutcliffe’s death with my mum today I found out that she used to be friends with Barbara Leach before she went to uni! My mum told me she was such a lovely girl and was incredibly kind hearted. It definitely wasn’t her time, it’s so heartbreaking.

I think that that woman had PTSD, so was seeing his face everywhere. Your grandpa probably shared some sort of feature (like maybe similar hairstyle etc.) with the ripper, which then made the woman think that he was him.
@@heckingkermit3258 a lot of the women were, and had more than 1 child, after just the first 4 or 5 there were 13 motherless children, so the number is likely higher than 20

my dad lived in Bradford at the time when all of this was going on, he was originally born in the North East and moved to Bradford for a job, he was a butcher and after work would sometimes walk home with a little bit of blood on him from his job where he was cutting things, he got questioned for this by police in regards to this case, as well as a whole load of other men. I watched this video with my dad as it's a case he thinks about a lot. you put so much work into your videos! we loved it :)
Nowadays the owners of cars with matching tyres would be cross referenced with the pay packets (that would have narrowed down the number of suspects considerably). I'm sorry but if you interview someone over 5 times in a murder inquiry that's suspicious, WTF were these police doing ?!
They didn't have the technology then though. Most people were paid in cash so it couldn't be traced to anyone person and the car seemed like it was pretty popular considering the amount of interviews that took place. Several people working at the same place could have had the same car. There just wasn't the technology in place to link them and therefore the evidence wasn't there to convict him. They could have arrested him but would have had to release him and he would have continued anyway.

*Fun Story About My Teacher For No Specific Reason* Disclaimer: My teacher is not sure if this experience included the Yorkshire Ripper So my teacher lived through the time when the Yorkshire Ripper was murdering his first victims. Near the time of his latest kills, she was around 13. She - of course - had heard about him, along with her family and probably the whole city. One night, she was allowed out alone. (since her parents were strict due to the paranoia of 'The Ripper') She had a night out with friends - or just went to buy something I can't remember; and she was walking back home. She lived in a dead end, but with a sort of roundabout on the end, and that dead end was after a turn down the road to the right. (from the British driving side - left) Between the turn was a type of park, which had a shortcut path that crossed from the start of the road to the roundabout thingy. My teacher was half way down the road from the turn when she heard something, instantly turning around. At her sight was a man, stood at the corner of the start of the road, staring right at her. Of course, she was scared and started speeding up to her home. She was almost running when she looked back and every-time she sped up, so did he. It came to running, when the man started sprinting. Cleverly, my teacher did not choose to take the shortcut park pathway and decided to run the long way around the turn. Of course, the man took the pathway to cut her off. This is when my teachers adrenalin kicked off. She fully sprinted down the road, around the turn and towards the dead end, past the pathway exit - where the man had just came from right behind her. She was right in front of her home when the man caught up with her. And to her very surprise, he asked her what the time was. Stuttering, my teacher said she didn't know and ran into the surprisingly open front door of her home, into the dining room in which her parents were having dinner with friends, and without a word from all the trauma ran upstairs to her sister; watching the man staring up at them standing in the front lawn, as he slowly walked off. My teacher is and was pretty sure it wasn't the Yorkshire Ripper himself, but I just thought I'd tell the story. Hope anyone enjoyed it!
I've had a talk in my school by one of the Yorkshire rippers victims son (Richard mccan) who was very young at the time and is now a motivational speaker

Emily T how strange my dad also worked as a lorry driver with the Yorkshire ripper and said the same thing that he thought they got the wrong man because he seemed a decent friendly man
Omg 😮
Mitchyy your dad , their grandad , hmmm?
It's close to me too!! But for a different reason, the other day my dad told me that my grandad was actually a suspect!!

So she basically saved her life by fighting him. If she had taken the offer or had stopped fighting, she'd have died.
oh my , god bless her
Omg that is so scary. God bless your nana.
That's why it's clear he was lying about doing the work of 'god' killing prostitutes. He was trying to get an insanity defence and go to a mental institute with a lenient sentence. I also don't believe it had anything to do with his wife cheating. I think he started young hating women.

While I find this case incredibly interesting, it kinda hits home with me because I just think how lucky I am that he wasn't successful with his attack on her.

fun fact: my granddad was arrested as a suspect. they thought my grandfather was the yorkshire ripper for a hot minute. he used to run for Derbyshire and he’d run across the moors, his car was spotted frequently up there so his name was given in many times. he couldn’t provide an alibi for ages either, so he legitimately could have gone down for it

Thank you xx
I did notice that victims 3 and 5 murdered by the Yorkshire Ripper mirrored Annie Chapman and Mary Kelly who were murdered by Jack the Ripper
Why do they make sketches when they dont end up referring to them and never believe them 😕😕
Good point
Worst part is that they had numerous sketches that were practically identical which should've been enough to focus on him solely
my grandad actually ran into the ripper when he was a teenager at the back of my house (that was his childhood home). one day he was walking with his friend and the ripper came up to them asking where the nearest phone box was as his lorry had broken down and he needed to get it repaired. to this day my grandad can still see his face and still remembers that moment. the scariest thing is, that i live not even 5 minutes away from the place where my grandad met the yorkshire ripper.
It makes crimes like this suddenly feel so much more real. I don't think we can grasp how truly terrifying it must have been
Imagine seeing a terrible, infamous serial killer on the news and being like 'Wait... Billy and I saw that fucker at tesco last week!'
They questioned my dad in relation to this and my mum was on the same bus with one of the women he murdered, she fell asleep and missed her stop. She should have got off at the same stop as a woman that was murdered and would have run into the Yorkshire ripper. This was scary times in our town (Huddersfield!)

*Fun Story About My Teacher For No Specific Reason*
Disclaimer: My teacher is not sure if this experience included the Yorkshire Ripper
So my teacher lived through the time when the Yorkshire Ripper was murdering his first victims.
Idk. I mean why else would he chase her?
