The Character and Personality of Richard III

Given by Philippa Langley MBE and entitled 'The Character and Personality of Richard III - from contemporary descriptions created during his lifetime as Duke and King', this presentation was filmed as part of the international launch of Yvonne Morley-Chisholm's A Voice For Richard Project at York Theatre Royal on 17th November 2024.
An important part of the Voice For Richard Project has been the analysis of Richard III's character and personality. Your personality, formed by your character, affects the way you speak. Philippa Langley here considers what we know about Richard from contemporary writings, which include private letters and a diary. These are seen to correspond directly with similar public descriptions during his lifetime, thus offering a probability, bordering on certainty, of how his character was widely recognised.
The Voice For Richard Project is a landmark initiative which has evoked a many-sided understanding of times past. It has brought together leading specialists including Professors David Crystal and Caroline Wilkinson, and Philippa considers it an honour to have been part of the team over its ten year inception.
