Great video - huge difference in noise levels. I have the same Cummins straight pipe setup, the sound level and drone does get old after hours of towing.
Did the 5050xl on 5” from the start. No drone whatsoever on a 21’ Cummins. Can still hear the exhaust brake firecracker sound. Still has the rumble and barks when u get in it. At idle it sounds modest…slight hiss and light rumble. I put it in the muffler delete section towards the middle. No problems.
The further back a muffler is the better and more sound it will absorb. If it’s a resonator then the closer to the engine it should be. That’s why you don’t see cars or trucks with mufflers close to the engine always in the rear.
Nice truck and nice video. I’ve got a Powerstroke but I was doing general research on these Aeroturbine mufflers and I came across your video. I guess it’s because I’m still young and I don’t tow daily, but seeing how well these mufflers work I reckon I’m just a “the louder the better” kinda guy still lol. Straight pipe it is! 🥴
I honestly love the straight pipe sound of my truck and I do miss it. I’m “only” 33 lol. Still young in my book. Towing heavy was the only annoying time for the exhaust. I wish I could have both options really.
@@charger19681988 Oh absolutely, you’re still young haha! I’ve just read plenty of forums where the old timers think of us young truck owners as foolish for liking the loud exhaust notes lol. Ahh I gotcha! I bet that does get tiresome. I know my wife would be giving me hell since we take my truck on our multi state road trips. It’s too bad there’s not a way to quickly take off and put on the muffler with some type of latches for when you need it.

Put 2 mufflers in and the noise is much better and if that isn't enough install kill mat. I have a 36" magnaflow at the rear and a 24" one where the cat used to be. I am sure most of these flow though design mufflers act similarly.
Everything was great in their respective spots. Next time you do one, make before and after back to back, clip by clip. Few things are more annoying than having to search back and forth to hear the comparisons. Otherwise nice video

@@charger19681988 he was just letting you know lol. I can speak from experience. If you ditch the VGT turbo you are gonna want to ditch that Aero also cause good god almighty the sound is ferocious outside the truck but so is the drone inside 😔 was totally bummed when I installed mine.
It’s very minimal exhaust whistle when at idle and exhaust brake on when in warm up mode for cold temps. And the exhaust brake noise is much less. Funny thing is you can actually hear the turbo a little more when going down the road.

I got a 07.5 cummins it came with a magna flow turboback on it. I wanted a lil more sound but not straight pipe sound so I might go with this one.

What’s the difference between a muffler and a resonator? Does a resonator make it quiet like a muffler?
Muffler reduces overall sound from exhaust across all ranges. Resonator reduces drone at certain frequencies
