Chris is definitely correct. The holes work as a baffle system. Just like a silencer on a gun gasses go into the holes get redirected cooling them down then release them slower. cooler slower gases will equal less noise
My truck had a bad drone in the cab a cruising speed so I installed a resonator from FTE diesel and no drone anymore. Been on my truck for over a year and love it!
Great video Eddie. I put a similar muffler on my 17 power stroke. The company I bought it from said to have the air flow over the fins. In other words the holes facing towards the back. The fins do some sort of vacuum effect and catch the sound
I have a 30” FTE resonator on my 18 with a 5” exhaust and it killed my drone completely. Putting it as close to the down pipe as possible definitely helps!
I have the same thing on my truck and I was back and forth on which way it was to go on so I called the manufacturer. They told me that if open cupped part is to face the rear of the truck. If you face them towards the front of the truck it will not last long.
I'll second that. I've been running the 4040 on my 6.0 powerstroke for a couple of years. It gives great tone when you want it, but extremely mild at highway speeds.
I have a 4" Diamond Eye system on my F150, similar muffler. I have the openings facing to the back. It is quieter than a straight pipe, but still loud at full throttle. Opening to the front would be more helpful if you're wanting a quieter exhaust.
open louvers face towards rear of truck if you face them forward in a flow machince with smoke you will see the air flow is all over the place run in correct way and you will see the flow is correct and it works better
My old tune straight pipe ZERO drone. My new tune drone is horrible. Installed a flopro muffler in my 4” and now it only drones at low rpm under load. I tow my camper in 5th with my 68RFE at 2,000 rpm zero drone with the flopro muffler at that rpm on long runs
It isnt to slow down the air, the cuts are there so that some of the exhaust gasses go to the outside of the inner tube which has sound dampening material surrounding the inner tube
Sorry if im off topic but do u feel the need to use aftermarket steering stabilizers? Ive got my truck lifted on 37s and i feel i do but i haven’t pulled the trigger.
I bought a programmer from Matt it would not download tried to force it shut my truck down blew out my gateway module can’t get Matt to answer my calls and did nothing to assist just said he was busy and that’s on a 2020 longhorn 3500 truck is 2 months old
I'm kinda in the same position wanna get rid of that drone gonna be regearing for 37s soon so 75mph will be right around 2k from what everyones telling me I'm gonna gut my interior and do a full sound barrier in it and upgrade that alpine unit that came with my rig I currently have the fte 30" resonator but heard it cost you a bit of power
I know this is off course. But man it’s hazy there like it is up here in Nor Cal. It’s the season for fires and 100 degrees I think I’m ready for rain season 🌦🌤
Good video, that muffler is a large glasspack from 70’s gas powered vehicles. The closer you can get the muffler to the down pipe, the less drone you will have. Send me your email, and I will explain all of the testing I have done.
If you get that dpf back kit put back to factory you won't hear anything but tire 😂😂 that is just the nature of a straight 6 they always drone even in the big trucks they do that. It's what 10 bolts max to switch it the other way might as well try it.
I went with the resonator on my 4” exhaust setup. Does a great job on the drone, but not much for the overall amount of exhaust noise. I honestly don’t mind the exhaust sound on the Cummins anyway. ua-cam.com/video/C28b6IYEOjE/v-deo.html
"Stinks"????? No my friend, that is the most beautiful smell on earth. That is what freedom smells like.
more like a clean air is freedom
@@dannybuilding1044 government mandated control over what i do with something i bought and paid for is freedom to you? 🤔
@@5cent27 Im guessing you don't like clean air.
Danny Building clean air is great, but mandating diesels is not the solution since all of the big factories still pollute our air
I believe that smell he referred to is the new muffler baking off the oils and coatings

Great video Eddie, the Aero Turbine 5050xl has been hands down the best muffler I’ve used for drone on my Duramax. I used to run the MBRP muffler.
I'll second that. I've been running the 4040 on my 6.0 powerstroke for a couple of years. It gives great tone when you want it, but extremely mild at highway speeds.

Installed both ways, Chris is correct if you want it to be quite and how it was designed to flow
Is the truck deleted or just straight pipe and tune
Call them the Gills (fish gills). Air flow into the gills facing the engine, or flow over the back side when open gills face the hitch.
Chris is the man! Eddie you bought a Cummins you’re always gonna have some drone🤣
Seriously haha
Sorry Eddie, Chris is correct. It looks exactly like a glass pack muffler in the hot rod world.
Play your music louder, drone/tire noise is not a oroblem any more. 🤘🏼
open louvers face towards rear of truck if you face them forward in a flow machince with smoke you will see the air flow is all over the place run in correct way and you will see the flow is correct and it works better
Hey Eddie what’s better a 6 speed or 10speed??
tell Chris to see if it fits my truck while it sits at his shop waiting for my revmax transmission
u got it brotha
Bought a 90 turndown tip for my 03 ram and as ridiculous as it sounds it actually help get rid of the drone 5" flopro exhaust with a muffler
They always say open holes toward the motor and if you can put it in front cat makes it quieter
I had to put a muffler and a FTE resonator on my 5" turbo back lml to get rid of the drone.
anyone running Aero exhaust muffler PN#5050 XL. Eddie might want to look into that muffler I’ve heard good things about it.
I ran it...does NOT remove drone

It makes sense to have the cuts towards the front to slow down air flow and make it quiet.
Beautiful truck!

Run HT tires you will have no noise and you will get better mileage, ya its not sticking out tires but if that's what you want 😅

Go with a Corsa diesel muffler. Got rid of the drone on my duramax
What exhaust are you running? Sounds great both with and without the muffler.
jamo 5 inch exhaust

They don't sell that one muffler that you put in a customer Ram back like a year ago? That one seemed way quieter than what you put on yours.
Drone.. how bad was the straight pipe drone when pulling your camper?
Very bad
Thanks!

did you have to re tune the tuner?
What tip is that? Where did you buy it?
Did you have to delete the def to do a muffler delete
Twister flo pro or a donaldson muffler is the ONLY thing that will get rid of the drone..ask me how I know....
What the 5 inch exhaust a tight fit with the airbags? If so what did you do in order to fit it?
No sir
