Hello Leland Holton, what year truck? I have a 2021 and 2nd time in the shop for DEF system. I am a small business owner and cannot be down. I put on about 50,000 miles a year and would love to know who did the modified stock tune? Looking for better MPG and less problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for representing the reliability and fuel economy guys. We don't all want deleted trucks to roll coal. I would love to do this but I'm in the US.
That's a much bigger difference than I ever would have guessed. Some of it may be deleting the exhaust gas recirculation valve,(EGR) and some might be restriction in the DPF. While those parts are off, you might see if it's possible to flow test, clean, or perhaps, just replace it. With the straight pipe exhaust, I could really hear the "whistle" if the turbocharger. The black smoke happens for the same reason, you feel the "snappy" throttle response. With the factory tune, it measures boost pressure, not allowing the injection pump to inject too much fuel, for the amount of air available to burn it. With the aftermarket tune, the pump squirts in the amount of fuel indicated by throttle position, regardless of boost. It smokes, until the turbo has time to "catch up". Don't use an aftermarket tune with the exhaust in place, because it will quickly foul the DPF. Using similar to a factory tune with the delete will eliminate the puff of black smoke, but, the throttle will feel more like stock. (sluggish, by comparison)You will, however, keep the good fuel economy, and the power. For the next experiment, try deleting the EGR, but leave the DPF and SCR in place. While the truck will feel "stock", it might gain the fuel efficiency, and, I think, will actually make the DPF last longer, and regenerate less frequently.

Remember to measure at the pumps, ECU tunes can program the fuel usage gauge too, if they want to. I am a bit skeptical about the fuel millage, it is within 20% difference of my 4 cylinder stationcar for a truck that is twice the weight, twice the wind resistance and twice the wheel rolling resistance. The throttle response difference can easily be the ECU giving you 20% throttle instead of 15% throttle your foot tells the car to do. It could also be giving you 100% throttle shortly if you press the throttle quickly between 0 to 50%, that would explain the idle smoke. Try and test if the last 10-20% on the throttle pedal even does anything, it could be removed by the ECU.

5th and 6th are both OD grears. 4th is the highest direct drive. If you're in a long hard pull you should use 4th when you tune these trucks with the 68rfe.
Doesn't your programmer / monitor allow you to adjust the tire size ? The Edge program I had in a previous truck allowed me to change when I did the lift and went up to 38" tires.
Just picked up a 2020 with 94000km, definitely watching what you do with these trucks. Ok so why are we still using DEF when the engine is obviously more efficient without it? Keep it up! Mark @ Mannisto Cay

8:58 yeah I was surprised to see it rolling coal like that because at this point the tune and everything was still 100% stock right? Well there is our reason why the Particulate Filters cause so much problems: It should never have to deal with that much smoke in the first place.
Great video! I dont get the view the EPA has on def... Lets put something on trucks that makes them get worse mileage so they have to use more fuel. And then have to put stuff in another tank that will get spilled and has plastic drums they will just throw away and put more plastic in the land fills. Doesn't make any sense to me what so ever.
Government gets tax money off of the diesel you buy as well. Not to mention the cost associated with all the emissions being tacked onto the truck for taxes. It's all about the money while looking like they care for the environment
Yes you have some crazy regulations in the US. diesel vehicles get a lot better mpg outside the US although they have a lot of of Anti pollution gear on them
Need help/info, it's been years since I had a diesel last one was on a 99 Ford F250 so I have been educating myself via various videos. I now understand all the new emmision bs that involves deleting. That being said I am in the process of purchasing a 2019 Ram 3500 that has been deleted. It should arrive at my local dealership in the next few days coming from Dallas Tx. Question is knowing that it has been reprogrammed for the delete that was done are there issues when bringing into a dealership for service. If the dealership connects it to their system will it wipe out the delete program, will this cripple the truck? I have a superchip programmer on my 5.7 hemi and I know that I have to return to stock before going in for service. Just need help in understanding Thanks in advance.
Nice channel man, subbed. I actually have a friend who had bought a truck with deletions and added them back on and then processed To make his truck super quiet with more insulation. To each their own, I like the loudness more. He had a charter buiness so he picks up his clients and doesn’t want them to get that trucking feel when bringing them to the docks, but he has a tune on it and said the back pressure is even better with the exhaust plugged up, does this sound right to you guys??
I've always wondered if you were able to do an actual emissions comparison between stock and a deleted truck with a tune set for fuel economy, not to roll coal at every stoplight, and accounting for the increase in fuel milage would the emissions be substantially different? We know the EGR/SCR/DPF setup increases wear and tear on the motor and decreases fuel milage so I wonder if when you account for the increased fuel usage is all of the mandated emissions junk really making that much of a difference on the total emissions per tank of fuel or are the EPA numbers based purely on the instantaneous emissions. Does that make sense?
Getting better fuel mileage increases emissions because you're burning the fuel more efficiently, creating more fumes. Modern cars are a balancing act between good mpg and low emissions. Basically, they lower emissions by passing unburnt fuel through the exhaust. I tuned my gas truck and got better gas mileage. The trade off is that I create more emissions. Not a problem for me because I live in a free state. Another issue is that my o2 sensors and catalytic converter will probably need replaced sooner than usual.
Another interesting point is how long it takes for the delete to pay for itself. If you know the MPG increase after delete, then you can find how many miles it would take to recoup the delete cost.
well its not just about the increased fuel mileage. getting rid of all that emmions stuff will save you money from it being in the shop and having to buy def.

That is funny. When you made that right turn I knew exactly you were as I live in the next town over to the left of that turn haha. Glad to know you are local as my daughter is looking into getting a diesel and so am I.
Let me make one correction when he said, "Most places deletes are illegal" but in actuality, most places it is legal. Only states like CA have laws against deletes etc. TX, AZ, AK, WY, MT, WY, TN, WV, VA, FL, ID, NV, GA and many more have zero restrictions. Some states have restrictions if you are in major cities.
What are your thoughts with leaving the exhaust brake on 24/7. I keep my 5th gen Jake brake on all of the time. If nothing else, to reduce wear and tear on my brakes
The emission numbers definitely need to be looked at between delete and stock. If it’s burning that much less fuel it’s got to be as clean or cleaner out the exhaust. Here in the states I think the EPA need a to set a standard and let the aftermarket folks have free rein on these engines. As long as they meet that standard they are good, but I’d be willing to bet if they let the aftermarket work on getting cleaner air and better all around performance they’d beat the current standard and get rid of all this crap. All these standards seem to do is rearrange the pollution by the time you figure for the plastic jugs etc plus the extra fuel that has to be refined to feed this lower fuel mileage created by all this. I do think that coal rolling needs to be outlawed and dealt with severely if someone is caught doing it.
Can you enlighten me on the tune you used, as well as getting around the factory gateway firewall? I manage a government fleet and my scan tools wont even allow me to program my aftermarket tpms sensors..aargh! Great video

5th and 6th are both OD grears. 4th is the highest direct drive. If you're in a long hard pull you should use 4th when you tune these trucks with the 68rfe.
I’m curious if you hand calculated your fuel economy to see if the truck gauge was accurate after the delete?
My freaking dream truck man
Thanks for the video. You covered nearly everything that I even care about. Good job!!!
I just ordered my delete and I'm also getting a tune and I also purchased a ram air intake system with some pipes, looking forward.
I'll be looking for a ghost delete for my 2020 Ram 3500. I know the fuel economy would pay for itself pretty quickly
Have you had any luck finding one?
@@usmcgregalunas yeah an outfit in Indiana does it. At least if the rumors are true
@@TruckerMike089 yes, it is true. Shop in Goshen, IN
@@ВсёОбАмерикеИНеТолько good to know thank you
I have been your subscriber as i always liked diesels. I was a bit afraid going that route, but finally making up my mind to go diesel. We do about 2 winter trips to the NWT/Yukon and I am hoping i get the truck equipped to fight those extreme temps
That’s awesome!
Sound of the truck on video while driving just sounds like a gas truck with flowmasters
It literally sounds nothing like a gas job
I have the same truck but crew cab, I travel a lot for work and it’s also my work truck, on the highways and interstates in the states here I average about 22mpg at 70-75 MPH, and I haven’t even gotten the delete set up yet. Im excited now.
So I take it, that truck is no longer under warranty ?
@Oddly Right yup, gotta make sure your hunting rifle is is zeroed in!
Imagine if the diesels came like this from the factory!!
That's awesome man! My 12v doesn't even get that mileage!
I have a 2003 LB7, 30%, LBZ Sportsman regulator, stock/S475, 6-speed conversion. Longer gears starting with 1st is very helpful.
Still the best sounding stock diesel imo
Thanks for the video. Can you add a link to all the parts you installed please?
@Caleb Wright lolol
Parts list PLEASE!!
Wonder how the difference is between manual and auto transmission?
Another interesting point is how long it takes for the delete to pay for itself. If you know the MPG increase after delete, then you can find how many miles it would take to recoup the delete cost.
well its not just about the increased fuel mileage. getting rid of all that emmions stuff will save you money from it being in the shop and having to buy def.
@@nathanperez7559 my truck was in the shop 6 times for particulate filter problems so they finally replaced the whole system. 2 weeks later I deleted it. Best money ever spent. Better response, mpg, and no more $ on DEF.
Exactly why I keep my federal emissions standard 03 Lb7 no cat or EGR from factory banks big hoss bundle six gun, super scoop intake, 4" all the way out. 35" BFG CCLB 20 mpg to Vegas smog legal in CA.
That thing sounds SWEET.
Very informative videos! I just bought a 2017 cummins. I have been told to delete it. So these videos help alot. Thanks
Do it! If you have a 68rfe tranny try not to run tires bigger than 33’s and you’ll be good to go. 👍
Good video. I have a 2011 2500 and it came deleted. So unfortunately I have no idea the tune, studs anything except for what I see and don't see. I love how it sounds like a race car! I agree about the smoke with anything newer than a 97 anyway. Sadly my exhaust brake quit and I'm hoping it's a censor or the actuator. I miss it! I'll be upgrading to a fifth gen after someone else puts 200k on it first. Then I can afford it! It'll be my third one.
With the straight pipe, is the cabin pretty quiet still? I feel these trucks are pretty well insulated
That is my dream truck, color, wheels, mega cab and everything. I'd be so afraid to lose warranty though, then again I'll probably never be able to afford one new haha so a used one might be out of warranty anyway
You just need a mechanic that has his own shop and they'll help you out. ;)
I’m with you on the black smoke totally not necessary and wasted fuel 😎 great job!
I'm really curious if you are allowed to mention where you get your EFI Live tunes from, it seems almost impossible to find someone reputable anymore to do them
Yea I have a truck needs deleted and can't find anything
Looking for same info
Great video! I noticed your "check gauges" light is illuminated. Is that permanent because of the delete? Also, do you guys do deletes at your shop? I have a '22 Dodge that I want deleted as soon as possible.
Check out ATS. They make a BOLT ON kit for the allison transmission for Cummins. No cutting grinding fabrication nothing. Just bolt the bitch on. Cummins Allison unstoppable.
That would be awesome!
Love the way it sounds on deceleration
Awesome video it's great for comparison before and after 👍
God bless you and stay safe in these troubled times 🙋♂️🇬🇧
How long did you have to baby the truck until the transmission learned the new shifts
Have you got chance to delete any of the new half ton diesels? I have a 2020 Silverado with the 3.0 duramax. Just curious what it would sound like deleted.
Just bought one aswell I’m curious
My 6.4 hemi gets almost the same fuel economy as my new cummins. 1mpg higher thats it. That hemi is one awesome motor
That is funny. When you made that right turn I knew exactly you were as I live in the next town over to the left of that turn haha. Glad to know you are local as my daughter is looking into getting a diesel and so am I.
Haha that’s awesome
Best delete video I could find. EPA needs to pull their heads outa their ass with making these trucks run so inefficiently
Now alll he needs is a true manual drive
Said the non manual drive person
Just picked up a 2024 Rebel 2500 yesterday. Cant wait to do a delete on it but better wait for awhile for warranty reasons lol
What are your thoughts with leaving the exhaust brake on 24/7.
I keep my 5th gen Jake brake on all of the time. If nothing else, to reduce wear and tear on my brakes
I always have mine on
Same
The emission numbers definitely need to be looked at between delete and stock.
Great video question is it Worth putting a cold air intake and a 5 inch exhaust or should I just stick with a 4 in exhaust and no cold air
That’s a good question. I’m interested as well.
I got a s&b cai , i can tell it breaths better , and the turbo wistle is so much louder , kinda like 2nd gens
My truck was deleted and now it blows lots of white smoke at start up. After about 5 seconds it clears up and everything runs fine. Is this normal?
Can you enlighten me on the tune you used, as well as getting around the factory gateway firewall? I manage a government fleet and my scan tools wont even allow me to program my aftermarket tpms sensors..aargh! Great video
You need a obd bypass.
Good video! Thanks for going over that bracket, I have the same one.

*Great video and information. These really makes me want a diesel truck. Its getting the same mpg as my daily driver sedan.*
Do you have any contacts in Alberta, Edmonton area.
To do deletes?
In-line auto and performance. Good prices and knowledgeable
Would love to see a before and after on a new duramax. This video makes me want a Ram now. Would you get the aisen or the 68rfe. I like the feel of the 68rfe just unsure of the durability. Can it handle 75 hp tune long term? What about towing?
Thanks. Great vid
Just wait on a ram if you are buying one. 2022 you can get the Allison you so love.
Get the AISIN it’s on par or better than Allison now. My 19 with the AISIN pulls like a dream and is smooth under load!
@@bradyfereday6483 The Aisin is nowhere near as good as an Allison. The Aisin in the first 2 gears is pathetic. If you ever drive unloaded then it's a terrible transmission. Doesn't shift quick through all the gears like the Allison.
@@kernmw10 I have a 19 with it. It is smooth and shifts really well under loads above 20k. I would get an AISIN any day of the week over the Allison. Plus AISIN and Alison share tech.
i was gonna say something about the soot coming out but you motioned it ..... no smoke don't give the epa ammunition to screw up our diesels
