I still think that was more forgivable than this just because bad snaps have happened before. I mean it was terrible but that's a mistake you couldn't really recover from. To have 29 seconds sitting there and the coach not think about calling a timeout is still a couple of tiers above that in ridiculous
The thing about the Raiders (and the Giants as well) is that we expected them to be this bad. The Bears had a surprising 4-2 start, and then it could've been at a decent level, if not better.
Here's a fun stat. The Bears lost 4 games: Commanders, Packers, Vikings and Lions trailing by a grand total of 1 point when the regulation clock read 0:00. They were up by 3 vs Commanders when the clock read 0:00 only to have them score a TD. They were down by 1 to the Packers when the FG got blocked, they tied the Vikings and lost to Lions by three. If Eberflus had kicked the EP instead of going for 2 like he should have in the Lions game they would have a had a net score differential of 0 in those 4 games when only one went to OT. That's almost impossible to do.
That means that if every single one of those games had gone the Bears way, they would be 8-4, and in the thick of the NFC playoff race. That's disheartening to think about.
As a Bears fan, it should be the top blop for every episode the rest of the season. There will be no new blops this season that out-blops what we did Thursday.
As a Bears fan, I can confidently say that Matt Eberflus was the worst head coach in Bears history. Worse than Trestman, Worse than Fox, Worse than Nagy. Couldn't have been happier that the Bears finally made a midseason firing on a head coach for the first time in their existence.
What do you think of letting Thomas take the HC job next season, depending on how he does the rest of this season? Granted that's if we can't get Ben Johnson.
@@MFBlooshI think it's a foolish idea. There's Vrable, Ben Johnson, Cliff Kingsbury, even Belichick going to be available. And if the rumblings or of SF are accurate Shanahan might even be out there. I'm not even a Belichick fan but he would be a lot better than a guy who was the passing game coordinator just a few days ago. He doesn't have the experience yet to be a HC. Interim? Sure. But full time? No, we need someone with multiple years of success in their back pocket either as a coordinator or HC Edit: I think I would even prefer giving Daboll a chance. He developed Josh Allen and he even got discount Eli Manning to the playoffs and won a game
@@MFBloosh Depending on how Thomas Brown does as interim, I say go for it. But I think it's better off to have Brown being OC still and getting an offensive minded coach like Mike Vrabel or Todd Monken at head coach

The bears browns and raiders are the only franchise that can rival the jets in terms of incompetence. Just glad they’re not the only mess in the league.
Bears: This was the worst way you can lose a game ever Raiders and Chiefs + Refs: Hold our beers! But really, as Lions fan, I'm still confused 24+ hours later on how the hell you do not call a TO there. Hell, look at the Lions players after that happened. Even they were shocked the game ended like that
As a broncos fan I would like to extend my gratitude to the raiders and bears organizations for making the broncos blocked field goal only the 5th worst loss of the season as of today.
Folks talking about the Raider vs Chiefs game but the ending was just as bad, but that wasn't on the HC. I can understand that he had zero, I mean zero, faith in Tucker, which is understandable, but the snapper decided to take a dump on an easy win.
The league is giving less fucks about the sport, and more about capitalizing on bringing new fans that they can financially rob through the manufactured chaos and controversial drama, that now takes place every Sunday like an episode of Monday Night Raw..

The head coach needs to protect his young QB…
It was up to the coach to protect his rookie QB. I am not a Bears fan but you are absolutely right. He failed at that. That said, it kind of shows Caleb's current leadership ability as well a bit when he couldn't think to do it either. To be clear, this dumpster fire wasnot on Williams mostly but it also still wasn't a great sign about his current ability for his position at this level either IMO. Everyone watching regardless of their knowledge of football knew they needed to call a T.O. Everyone but the two people actually able to do so apparently.
Also, don't forget the tantrum Caleb threw 10 seconds before that when Eber called a timeout. It wouldn't surprise me if he just got tired of the guy and wanted to let him fail.

The Car Metaphor I actually had a friend who had the perfect answer to that question. We're from Pittsburgh and there is a saying here "N'at" it's a great little saying. Well, my friend came home drunk as a teenager late one night and his mother was yelling "Where were you?" he said I was out with my buddies N'at and then passed out on his bed. In the morning his mother barged into his room waking him up and screaming "The car has a massive dent in the side" his response "That was the N'at part of the night?.
I'm baffled by the number of people saying the fuck up was in not taking the timeout. Taking the timeout is obviously preferable to just losing the game, but it's atrocious compared to just getting up to the line faster and running a play where you can throw into the middle of the field and THEN take the timeout before the field goal. The play calling and/or execution of just getting the ball snapped is the problem here.
The Bears had three timeouts available when Washington scored from the Hail Mary. When I watched it live I couldn’t believe the coach didn’t call time out because it was obvious that the players weren’t set and didn’t have their minds on the job. Then during the Detroit game when 20 or so seconds were on the clock the camera showed the coaches face and it was blatantly obvious that the gears behind the big round googly eyes were seized up.
Bears fan here, I actually would rather they somehow hire Mike Vrabel and retain Thomas Brown as OC this offseason rather than bringing in Ben Johnson, who certainly has the potential to be a great HC but will still be a first timer, and an entire new offensive staff.
It wasn't a bad decision to try to line up and run a play before calling the timeout. The problem is, they weren't quick enough with it. The players looked like they maybe weren't even sure where to line up or what play to run. That's on the coaching staff for not having everyone prepared. Then the second coaching mistake was lack of recognition that things were taking too long.... by the time the clock got down to about 12 seconds, Eberflus needed to go ahead and burn the timeout. They might have had enough time to try to complete a sideline throw and get out of bounds with a few seconds left to attempt a field goal.
