OMG, this is the best interview of Lin-Manuel talking about his process. Kudos, Mike! Your questions were spot-on. There are so many pearls of wisdom here. I feel nourished, enlightened, and ready to go back to face my own work.
Priceless conversation! Thank you! Pac-Man, 6th grade DARE rap (I could have been your teacher in this scenario, Mike. I remember it well! LOL), and all it is in a nutshell, is a high school play. Now I can start my day.
Great job Mike. Great interview! I don’t know if it was the questions or by virtue of your brand as a process person; but Lin was so comfortable and happy to get into the nuts and bolts of how his inspiration.
Rapping about drugs at school has gotta be some kind of universal experience because I too have a memory of standing up in front of my grade 6 class and embarrassing myself with a parody about opioids.. 😭
It is such a rich thing this podcast➡getting to hear how working it out comes about & then, how it blossoms...the idea Lin-Manuel presented that b/coming who you want to be as an artist, usually starts w/imitating how artists one admires do the art➡that that is common, & that's ok b/c it's part of the process of finding your own voice is eye-opening & freeing to me. And Mike's whole-hearted, you-hit-the-nail-on-the-head, echo-ing response, I think will free a lot of people up to keep going, vs being stopped by critical voices (their own or others) , b/c they know it's part of getting there➡not proof that they don't have what it takes. I'm going to keep that in mind🥳
I had a conversation with a bigot who thought only blonde white girls could play the part of Snow White. When I mentioned that African Americans and Latinx were playing George Washington, Aaron burr, Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, she said she didn’t know of any shows that cast parts that way. Yes, she’s never heard of the musical! Hamilton”.
Indeed. And long before the bruu ha ha with Disney's live The Little Mermaid, Sade had played a mermaid in one of her music videos. So, having a Black singing mermaid was not new. Dates to the 80s.
I can't believe these two didn't talk about improv more. Like I know they're busy, but Birbigs, watch the Freestyle Live Supreme documentary. LMM, watch Don't Think Twice. Come back and discusssssss.
Just a heads up...I've had to re-subscribe to your channel a few times in the last week. Not sure what 's up w/YT➡I'm only 1 person, but if your numbers are wonky, maybe it's happening to other subscribers, too.
Couldn’t sleep - checked my phone - really couldn’t sleep because I had to watch the entire interview. What a treat.
Is it weird that I heard you singing this comment? Lol

This is the most insightful and interview of LMM that ive seen or that probably exists because ive watched so many wow, such good questions.
Never clicked so fast on one of these videos!! Excited to hear more on Lin-Manuel’s writing process!! 🙌

I just watched hamilton for the first time last night. Talk about good timing!!!
Ahhh, the joy of seeing Hamilton (or, in my case, the Hamilfilm) for the first time! That’s something I wish I could experience again! ❤️
6:00 I'm on the stair master and the laugh this gave me almost killed me. 😂😂😂😂
Workshopping Hamilton raps at the White House is the biggest improv energy ever. How are these two, of all people, not talking about that??
They did talk about it
@eddiewilling about their improv comedy backgrounds.

Lin-Manuel… I already know this is a great episode.
the transition from birbigaboo's podcast from audio only to video is my roman empire
Loved this so much. Also MB, no notes for 6th grade Mike. What an amazing act of bravery!!!
YAYAYAY THIS IS SO EXCITING I HOPE I CAN GET TO AMERICA TO SEE IT WHEN AND IF IT COMES OUT. 😭🙏
Two of my faves. ❤
Lin is probably the only "celebrity" who can relate to and appreciate Mike's drug rap
"The easiest to pronounce version of myself". I'm taking that one with me
That was great. Thank you!
I was gonna get right to work this morning but never mind.
Mike looking really healthy
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ love them!!!!
Couldn't possibly love working it out more
Promote that new album!! Warriors is so fucking good.
I feel Lin-Manuel’s pain: I find transfers at Jay Street station to be very confusing, too! #lost
So good. So good.
