Hiking American Lakes Trail | STUNNING Scenery in State Forest State Park

Hiking American Lakes Trail was our first time checking out State Forest State Park in northern Colorado. And it was gorgeous! We followed American Lakes Trail past Michigan Lake up to Thunder Pass. On the way, we saw a few moose down in the valley. And from the pass we spotted a group of bighorn sheep on the mountainside across the way. From Thunder Pass, we could see into Rocky Mountain National Park. The mountain views were incredible from up here.
We descended from the pass and hiked back to the lakes. And they were stunning. It was quite a climb up from Michigan Lake to Snow Lake. Snow Lake was settled into a dramatic cirque and the color of the water was just gorgeous! It was the perfect spot to eat our peanut butter and jellys and take in the scenery before returning the way we came.
