Well....wow. I just finished a 3 day 2 night hike of the Rockwall. I went north to south. Honestly I just have no idea how you could have the strength and endurance to both get up to Floe, then to Numa Pass, down to Numa and then up to Tumbling. I am just blown away you grinded up Tumbling from Floe in a day. When I was coming down Tumbling on my 2nd day my knees where just dying. My hat is really off to you both for somehow grinding this route south to north in 2 days. Incredible. Glad you had great weather. My first night I hiked to Helmet. The 2nd day I went up Rockwall Pass, down to tumbling creek, up Tumbling and then down to Numa Creek. Last day I went up Numa Pass and down to Floe and exited. Wonderful place for sure. A incredible experience but I still can't believe you did it south to north in 2 days. Congratulations!
The first time I ran this, I just ran trailhead to trailhead, and then ran the trail and had my car at the end! It was amazing. I have done both directions, and this direction is definitely the best! 10/10 one of the best trails around.
I live 1 hour from the Rockies (here in Alberta) and every time I go (which is often) I'm even more amazed at what I have in my backyard. As I'm writing this it's March and I'm clawing at the walls waiting to get out there. I don't love the fact there are grizzlies but I take precautions and it's a good reminder we are not always top of the food chain:)
I've never considered ultralight hiking, let alone fastpacking, as I don't mind going to hikes with 30kg+ on my back with camping and fishing gear. As I've got into running and trail running, these do seem like nice way to do extended weekend trips! Maybe someday I have the opportunity to do some of these nice trails in Canada also :)
Beautiful film! I did Rockwall almost 5 years ago now, in three days, with my dad. It's definitely my top trip in the Rockies! When we were there at the start of July, there was an avalanche covering half of Tumbling Creek Campground, and we were climbing over avalanches both going into and out of that valley!
A beautiful video and thank you. As an Aussie who until a few years ago commuted between Sydney and Calgary for 10 years for work, I really miss your beautiful country and you lovely people - "Aussies with an accent"! While I did some hikes while I was there, I would have loved to have done some overnights like this. Thanks to you, I can still experience them! Cheers and take care - Dave
@@JeffPelletier Truth is that my colleagues in Calgers all referred to me as a "Canadian with an accent" - the highest of compliments and one I am undoubtedly unworthy of!
Another sweet movie. Well done. I did Rockwall about 5 years ago now and have fond memories of it. We did it in one go, but I believe you are right, fastpacking it instead of running it in one shot is definitely the way to go. Gives you so much more time to enjoy this insane scenery. I'm pretty sure Melanie and I will do that again in the near future. :)
@@JeffPelletier Yeah, it was a long day, we camped on the paint pot parking lot and ran the whole thing, then drove back home to Vancouver for 9 hours straight. I was pretty smashed at the end of that particular day.
Such a beautiful run. Thank you for sharing it. “Running Vacation” brought a smile to my face. So much love in this video. That shot of helmet falls as you walked up was so nice. And that suspension bridge!! Awesome! Love the cap off with the mountain hike
Guy I was hiking with on Carnarvon Lake lake last year told me about this trail and I was surprised I'd never heard of it until then. Really solid video Jeff, super scenic and great film making!
What an excellent route! So much packed into a relatively short distance. Would love to give this a go some day! Thank you for documenting and sharing your experience!
Thanks Raphael! It really is a stunner - one of those routes where you can’t help but stop every few minutes to take in the view (and to take a few photos). I’m so glad we didn’t rush through it in a single day.
@@JeffPelletier Very much agree on that last point, as you pointed out in the video a "running vacation" sounds pretty nice! Athletic pursuits are great too but the approach you took here I could definitely see myself aging with haha.
literally TWO SECONDS into the video and I already feel so well entertained and inspired. Yesterday I bought my Salomon Running vest thanks to all your great info and inspiration. Decided to go with the new 15l cross vest due to winter 😅
Definitely one of the most beautiful backpacks I have done in Canada! In the USA I have seen runners on the very beautiful 26-mile hike called East Rosebud out of Redlodge MT or Cooke City MT.
Great move to have Audree run in front - #bearfood… only joking 😉- watching this for the second time and trying to imagine just how splendid it must be in real life.

This was amazing! Editing, music, the views! Well well done! I got into running back in March when my learn to ski mountaineer trip was cut short. Gorgeous area, really reminds me of the landscape in the Swiss Alps (without the villages & cows!) and one valley in particular sooo reminded me of the Dolomites; this part of BC has been on my radar for a while now, going to have visit post-pandemic.
