The Wynns make the most professional, gorgeous videos I've seen outside of Hollywood. They make me feel like I'm sailing and diving in new and different places right along with them. I know it took some effort for them to smile through the rough spots, but they helped me survive COVD, and I thank them for it.
@@russpost2557, I think the Wynns live like that for our benefit. It's a lot of extra work. And yes, they ARE true sailors, very true sailors. Once you've crossed the Pacific on a modest-sized cat, once you've plotted course around the Pacific based on the wind, once you've been aboard in 50 knot winds, once you've spent a day heaving your guts out over the side, once you've been out on deck in total darkness in rough seas playing with the sails, once you've checked and rechecked your stores for a long passage, once you've crewed on a big racing cat, once you've been up to the top of the main mast to do repairs and swam beneath the hull to check for damage, once you've spent every single day dealing with and fixing everything that breaks on a boat, from stays to alternators, you're the very definition of true sailors.
Uma need to spend less time on the silly unscripted rubbish they do with each other and stick to the sailing /travel content .. when they're focused and on point they are awesome, but I end up FF half the videos.. just MHO
Sailing Magic Carpet is one of my favorite channels. Aladino is a boat builder by trade with an impeccable eye for quality, together with his partner Maya they are restoring a classic old Cape George boat in a shed on a friends property somewhere around Seattle. This will be magic carpet 2, their first magic carpet is based in Europe still. Maya is an extremely talented musician who regularly entertains on the show with Violin and Guitar, she has composed their theme tune for their videos. They are a lovely young couple and both very creative. As a carpenter and joiner myself I am very impressed with Aladino's craft with timber, he takes his time to get it near perfect and the results show. Maya is not afraid to jump in on the tools and has developed some great skill as well.
Various channels for various reasons. Sailing Magic Carpet for the poetic films Maya makes and Aladino's knowledge. Leo and Tally Ho for pure craftsmanship - with 380K subscribers I think it should be on here. Mads and Sail Life for humor, glorious sanding and insane DIY, proving that everyman can. SV Delos for their every changing crew for years now, and actually the transition from party boat to family boat didn't hurt too much. So I miss the crazy brothers changing girlfriends, fresh crew every 6 months years. Vagabond like Delos pioneers, and after a year where it was too much baby for me with Lenny, they hit back hard after Greta, loads of laughs .... .. and then there is NO BULLSHIT JUST SALING Eric Aanderaa for hardcore solo sailing in icy waters. Millenial Falcon are all around great. New comers last two years are Odd Life Crafting and Expedition Evans for me. Both with insane projects. And then for German speakers: Segeljungs - when you do all that with 18, 19 years. Than therevwas SY7seas, now Bootsprofis, former sailing channel father/son duo that now help people finding boats and does surveys and technical vids. What turned me on was another German: Axel Busch 10 years ago, pre-delos even, for 1 year half around the globe from Heidelberg, Germany through rivers into the sea to the Med, Atlantic and Pacific crossing, until he sold his boat in the South Pacific . Before anyone complains: I don't watch TV, but every night before bed an episode or two. :)
@@lbb101 For me, Delos is first- Just enjoy their filmmaking style. Rarely feel like things are moving too slow on their videos. Vagabonde and Wynns for second. Zatara, Atticus, GBU for 3rd. Living Hakana, and expedition drenched in 4th. Now and again I follow Taylor on whichever boat she goes. Tried watching the other channels but mostly found them rather boring or too slow.
@@farzana6676 On the action front so, I am into Erik Aanderaa. No bullshit just (solo) sailing and consistently high latitudes. But not regular episodes. :)
Once you've watched a lot of sailing channels, you eventually notice the things you like about each and why you continue to watch some and leave others. The things I like most is the personality of the individuals. They have to be personable, intelligent, talented, nice and set a good example in sailing and behavior. Without those, the watching gets more difficult. I need to see a good story well told, with sharp resolution, and a variety of beautiful locations. If the channels are doing DIY, then the ability to teach (because we watch that to learn) becomes important as well. I've seen half of all of your top ten. I follow 4 of those. And I support 1 of them. Some that I watch have yet to make it "large" as they are relatively new, but because the qualities I look for and like are probably universal, I expect them to eventually catch on as they have been mostly in the DIY phase of renovation or construction. (Sail Life, Magic Carpet, Sailing Yabá, Sailing Florence, Sailing Cadoha, Odd Life Crafting, Life On The Hulls). It is my opinion that anyone judging any of the offerings solely on their relative success financially or popularly may not be fair to their efforts. It is best to watch for a while and then decide. Not everyone's likes or success criteria will be the same.
sailing The Good Bad and Ugly, These two are the most just normal and genuine persons with an attitude you will go far to get. Sailing Nandji. The most flat on earth pair that you will find. very comfortable in front of the camera.
Doesn’t it bother you the basic mistakes they make. Their boat may not be structurally sound. The finish is questionable. Doing the wiring after the put up the walls just defies logic.
I love Zatara - they are really who got me interested in the whole UA-cam sailing thing. Also love Parlay and appreciate that Colin is NOT a videographer. (He just brought one on board.) But neither push Patreon, hence why I am sure they are not on the list. Keith from Zatara has made it pretty clear that they don't need the money. Colin probably needs it more, but probably doesn't want to have to be a pitch man. Some channels get really boorish with the constant fawning over Patrons. Uma should be hired by National Geo to do films. They are creative and incredibly professional. Plus they go to unusual places. I have really enjoyed their recent trip to Norway , Svalbard and now Iceland!
I think the O'Kellys have absolutely killed it. Nick and Megan's video are very informative and they have been my source of passion to start sailing... We can't wait to meet them on the water. 2nd would be Zatara, Kieth has certainly taken the attitude of helping people get on the water and his maintenance videos are awesome. Those are my top two!
Zatara isn't on the list because they don't make money off their channel. Renee films the stuff because she enjoys it. They make money off their merchandise and becoming a z-member crew (Private on their website...not patreon). They also don't do UA-cam ads. They did an episode about 2 years ago that Keith said he doesn't like making money off other people's hard earned money when he has plenty of money himself. He sold his construction company and made a good retirement amount. Most of the money they are off merch they actually pay their kids to do certain jobs like boat projects and editing videos etc... because they are on the water they don't get the opportunity to have a part time job like kids on land do. I quit watching them when he put a pro Trump video out (which he quickly deleted after one day of losing over 50k subscribers).
@@atipsygypsylife I quit watching Delos for a while too when Brady started on the anti Trump crap and as an independent I don't care to hear either of their opinions on politics although I did vote for Trump. I don't really think Keith is worried about subscribers. To each their own. I sure would love to see $ 1.75 gas again though.
Archer, Sailing Florence, Ruby Rose, and Zatara all make great videos as well as others you mentioned. Expedition Drenched, Calico Skies, Clarity also. Uma makes the most exquisite videos- professional quality.
Hands down the absolute BEST sailing channel is Sailing GBU. They are working on the boat right now but they are the coolest people and most entertaining for sure.
They went to school for film making and they pretty much built a pos into a pretty good looking boat plus they seem made for one another and it shows how much respect and love they have for each other. Yup they are one of the top if not the top in alot of areas
I agree. My wife and I have sailed much of the world. Also, have been a professionals sailing instructor for many years. And these guys are just so amazing. Their talent in videography, sailing and the rebuild and design of a crappy old Pearson 36 into a phenomenal yacht. And when I started watching them they were pretty NEW to all of this. They had just finished up degrees in design and I believe Architecture. Wow. What skill they have developed.
Maybe now that Athena is sailing, Sail Life will make this list.. The guy is a legend, and I can guarantee most of the channels on this list have mentioned him or quoted him.. He deserves to be on par or close to the people on this list.
You asked for recommendations- I like Sailing Dauntless channel - the family has crazy skills, a good family vibe and great videos of them repairing their first boat, all electric with Tesla batteries, and a huge solar array. Ty has a construction background and although it was their first boat project, they did an astounding job. Now the had the chance to buy a sunken 50’ Leopard and recently did the most amazing (and first ever repair of this kind) on the two hulls. For sheer problem solving, project management and grit, this channel has it all! I am a Patron and don’t understand why they don’t have more traction yet but it will come, they are indeed “Dauntless”! Now we are all waiting to see which boat the keep to live and sail on, and which one they sell!
@@PanamaVail Wow! Yes that's another reason why I follow them, Panama is my destination and all the surrounding beautiful islands. Although ultimate destination for me is the Galapagos Islands. Was disappointed Holly (windhippie) didn't sail there but I understand the Galapagos can be very expensive and have lots of regulations you need to carry out beforehand.
Absolutely. Wind Hippie Sailing is my current favorite. She has such a positive outlook even when things are challenging and such an adventurous spirit. I would be both terrified for and proud of her if she were my daughter. I also love to see how she resolves her sailing issues with whatever is on hand.
I love Wind Hippie Sailing, she has great content. On this list, Sailing Uma are the ones I follow most. How Sail Oceans is another single-hander on a wooden gaff without a motor.
As far as I'm concerned, no one beats RAN Sailing for cinematography. Their Alaska and B.C. series was stunning. If you haven't watched it, you need to.
That’s much for this. Good info. I have followed most ot there for years. My favorite is UMA. The have done so much and started from scratch with a pierce of junk. They turned this into an incredible vessel. Their sailing skills are incredible. Just a wonderful couple. Their videos of Norway and Svalbard are top notch. Another to watch is SBJS. The Viking. A really amazing videographer and sailor. Single handing some of the worst waters in the world and doing an amazing job of documenting it. Sam Holms also another single hander on a shoe string has done very well. His only problem is his editing skills and his very dry repetitive delivery of narration really hurst him. But interesting and amazingly accomplished for what he has done. And how can you not love Delos and and Nahoa OH! And keep an eye on Expedition Drenched. Really excellent above and below the water.
Maya and Aladino are very special, his Swiss precision in boat building is awesome and Maya's beautiful story telling, music and gentle spirit, inspirational. A special couple doing wonderful things with boats.
Love RAN sailing for their smart and can do attitude paired with Swedish culture and astounding videography - I’ll never forget their BC trip vids. Gone with Wynn’s are just so lovable, fun couple to watch as they not only make the world a better place but fight for it too. Delos is my favorite as they set the benchmark in what used to be non commercial vids (that changed recently). Delos has incredible videography with an amazing tribe and sailing technology vibe. Brian has a beautiful voice and is an excellent story teller that really connects. Also love watching Sailing Cloudy Bay, Drenched and Sailing into Freedom for a laugh - talking about minimalist sailing and Sailing AB Sea. Vagabond has become a commercial show - beautiful model like people that have the ability to cram a ton of footage into a few minutes of video, feels very busy if you ask me and it feels like they are chasing the algorithm (successfully it seems). Cudos to all of them for making more money than me!
Wynns have a new boat being built by. Hudson. Their main factory is in China. Need I say more? New factory in Philippines where humans rights violations are right next to China. DO NOT Support these people unless you don’t care about the less fortunate. Search 2021 is state department report on human rights violations in the Philippines. From murdering people who speak out against human rights violations.
I can’t believe no one has mentioned Ryan’s & Sophie sailing?! Sophie does a great job telling their high sea stories! She’s so cute with her French accent, too! Good, wholesome channel and they deserve some support, too! Ryan just went through the most emotional experience ever in his life, too, on a solo crossing. Cant wait to hear more about it!
Good to see that cruisers can support themselves this way. Before UA-cam, sailors wrote and published books to help support their voyages, and I read many of them before and during my live-aboard days (the 1990's). There's a rich sailing literature out there, with much useful advice. I do hope that the more modern videos have a permanent life and stay accessible, since in many cases they are truly valuable works of videographic art.
Leo is awesome. And a great project. Almost always positive vibes. Great crew, too. I just went to public comments here and I was already thinking of Leo and, ah, you beat me to it! Good one! I am retired timber framer and marine carpenter. The process is most important to these craftsmen and women. Leo will sail Tally Ho but the process is what Leo embraced.
A couple of up and comers to keep your eye on. These are the Doodles and Wynn's of 2 or 3 years ago. 1) Sailing Good Bad & Ugly. American couple, Went from 20k subscribers to 136k in 2 years. 2) Sailing Nanji - young couple w newborn child. Similar subscribers, over 30 Mil views. 3) Not an up and comer, but one of the top sponsored sailing boats. Sailing Sophisticated Lady ( Captain Rick Moore). Long time sailor w nearly 90 Mil views. Rick's monohull has the latest I navigation electronics installed. His Highfield dingy is EV powered. Also a photography wizard. Has the latest in drone tech, and underwater photography.
Florence is greatly underrated. Two young people who have sailed thousands of miles. The quality of their videos is wonderful. It helps that they have a very good Oyster Heritage only 37' but sails like a dream
You should do a list of LEAST paid sailing channels. I just came across The Duracell Project and it's clear that these two are truly passionate about sailing and definitely could use the exposure and support from the community.
Oh no you had to mention DURACELL. The self proclaimed expert, that essentially ruines epoxy jobs constantly. And, does NOT care one bit of anyone's idea's if its not his way.
Acorn to Arabella ahead of Sampson Boat Co? I don't think so! For superb cinematography and capturing the essence of ocean voyaging, Sailing Yacht Florence is right up here with Sailing Uma.
I had a look on social blade at A to A and SBC. SBC had double the numbers. I think both channels are great. In a completely different way, I think Shiphappens is a great channel too.
I enjoy a small channel that started with a couple who bought a sinking ship...they take it to a rudimentary shipyard on the coast of Brazil to repair the holes and... "Sailing Yabá"
Great job on the list. Let the whiners whine. As you pointed out, this is really the top 10 sailing channels based on Patreon revenue as that’s the main income. Right? I think it’s an interesting list, and really only one cut of the many “top 10” cuts we could make. Personally would love to see top 10 most informative sailing channels. Probably would be vastly different. O’Kelly’s would move up, La Vagabonde would move down. La Vagabonde is becoming Keeping Up With The Kardashians, a reality show with lots of views but little informational value.
Distant Shores started my interest in sailing channels. Great couple who have sailed to many interesting locations. Then I started watching Sailing Zatara and recently also Gone With The Wynns. While I may never go sailing, I do enjoy these channels a great deal. They provide a fantastic insight into a great lifestyle.
Sophisticated lady very interesting content. Sailing zingaro you never know what's going wrong. Ran sailing is my absolute favorite. Sailing Uma is extremely interesting.
Zingaro was my favorite before kim left but now it's just James and random crew that don't seem to stick around and tge one girl who does just cooks and speaks no English and James will not even recognize he's dating her and we all know he is.. if Kim had stayed would have been my #1
Ran was what got me into watching sailing channels dreaming of leaving Sweden too and also the reason I decided I want to share my story too and learn how to film. Now I watch them and also Uma. And I support both as patreon, hoping I will too have patreons once my boat work is done and I can sail further. Så glad to hear that amount of time they out inte my and others entertainment actually pays off well. I 've already learned it us quite hard work even producing a super tiny channel!
Curious about the ranking and revenue fir the following: Tally Ho, Expedition Drenched, Parlay Revival, Sophicated Lady, Life on the Hulls, MJ Sailing, Salt & Tar, Onboard Lifestyle, Sailing Lady Africa, SV Tapatya, Vet Tails Sailing, SV Seeker, Western Flyer Foundation. Your top 10 have been around over 10 yrs. Some have changed boats. Other are starting families. All dealing with the fallout of 2 yrs of Covid.
Sampson Boat Co, with Leo rebuilding classic sailboat Tally Ho has more than twice the number of subscribers than Acorn to Arabella; why is he not on the list?
I like some channels not on your list. Sampson Boat Co, Parlays Revival, Sail Life, Bums on a Boat, and a few others. SV Seeker, Zatata and Zingaro. Sailing into Freedom.
Yeah Vagabond crew is now unwatchable to me since it's just too polished and 'nice'. All edge is gone. But I guess it's carefully thoughtout strategy to please the most amount of people possible. Just not for me anymore.
These channels work tirelessly for our entertainment. It’s none of my business how much they make. How much do you make a year in your full time job? Create content that is yours “Bruce” and I may subscribe.
Let's not forget that all of these predictions are based on projected 2022 income and we are only 24 days in. No top ten list is complete without sailing GBU . They are the polar opposite of Lavagabon yet far more entertaining and actually more of a learning crew.
All of these channels can thank Delos for two things; 1, Proving that sailing VLOGS can work on youtube. 2, Normalizing the pay per episode rather than the pay per month Patreon business plan. I have done a lot of investigating on that last point, and I have not found a genre other than sailing VLOGs that charges patrons per episode. Delos was the first to do it, and all the others followed. Now it's the norm for sailing VLOGS, and it jumps their revenue way higher than comparable channels of different genres.
La Vag and Sailing Doodles both sold their souls. Probably understand why given the income though. Delos certainly deserves their success. One that certainly should be in anyone's any top 10 is Sailing GBU ( Good Bad and Ugly )
We enjoy Nahoa, Winns, Zatara, Cruising Kiwis. Some I only follow WE sailing, Sailing GBU, Sailing Holly Blue, Sailing beyond boarders. Some of these are great but may not make any list per say.
Two more I've enjoyed that I haven't seen mentioned in the comments are: 1- Learning By Doing (Vernon is a truly good guy who does nice things for the native populations he encounters in Indonesia, and also happens to be a professional photographer, making for some stunning videos!) and 2- Mothership Adrift (loveable British family of 5 making their way around the world)
I started watching sailing with the Imoca Round the world race in 2020. learned alot about the sport watching that and how brave one needs to be sailing around the world single handed. I stumbled across Sailing Uma and went trough the transformation of their rebuilding of the 50 year old 36 ft Peterson. They went up the arctic circle with their solar powered electric boat this past winter and are now in Iceland. A wonderful young couple who have taught me a lot about sailing life and very innovative with their boat rebuild. Videos are wonderful and always teaching us about the interesting worlds they are visiting. I think they are the only all electric/ Sail boat to travel that far into the arctic.
Hey thank you. This is my first visit to your channel and what a surprise! I have been watching many of your top ten sites and I only vaguely knew that some folks actually make money. Too cool! Love sailing.
We've watched all of these channels. Some we subscribed to and then have dropped. The most notable was Le Vagabond. We found this couple to be insufferable. Riley especially is a PIA boor. Their son Lenny is an out of control brat. Truly his father's son. Sailing Doodles is a T&A show. Not our thing, they are also gone. Lot's of great channels out there, that have not quite "made it ". My 2 pesos.
I would hang my hat on Sail Life, to really understand the boat (during a somewhat extensive refit), Sailing Cadoha for their British-ness, Adventures of an Old Seadog (just being crusty and old - like me) and finally The Sailing Brothers - authentic, no nonsense cheese with every meal boys!! None of these will ever fill your next top ten but great to watch alongside some of those high preformers
And if for nothing, but sheer bravery, Wind hippy. Holly knows how to sail and is living a great life, what I wish I had done, decades ago. Great list, gives me something to shoot for!⛵🐬🐳
The list may have changed since 2022, but some others that I follow are Adventures of an Old Seadog, Sailing Yacht Florence, and Erik Aanderaa. Erik's solo sailing, cinematography along with his narrations are second to none.
Thaks for great information. I currently watch some on your list, and will now watch others. I like How to Sail Oceans: 1 guy, 1 camera, no engine. So he knows how to sail. Also gets a lttle cerebral at times. And he's a Mainer (like Holly), so he can't be all bad.
I've been watching all of these for years. Agree with your assessments, but there are more that will be garnering audiences and making money. Among them are Saill Life, mostly about a Danish guy rebuilding/reinventing an English 38 footer. Also, Tallyho, the rebuild of a famous 112 year old pilot boat that won the Fastnet race. Hasn't reentered the water yet, because it's an extensive refit being done by a master English craftsman in the Pacific Northwest. And, you just gotta love Sailing Good, Bad and Ugly. Once they fix things up, they'll be out there again. Not sure about this, but I think that those channels that offer binge watching may do better than those that do not. My next task is to do that with "Acorn." From the few episodes I've seen, it looks like an ambitious and worthwhile project. Keep us updated. Thanks.
Some of these channels have published their revenue data in the past (Delos being one of them) and these estimates are really, really high and I believe substantially overstated. Not taking away anything from these creators as they all work their butts off and put out quality material, but these estimates are based on some dubious assumptions. One is that all their Patrons are contributing weekly. That is simply not the case. I saw some examples where the typical split is 50/50 or less between weekly contributors and one-time or occasional. That would reduce these projected revenue numbers by probably 50% or more.
@@SlowBoatSailing Still believe that to be overstated. Suggest you find Delos' video from a couple years ago when they walked thru the numbers and calibrate that against their Patron count at the time to refine your assumptions.
My family and I watch "The Lazy Gecko's" and "Sailing Pickle Family" because multiple "recommended family sailing channel to watch" channels recommended them. I assumed they both were top 10 on revenue/views/subscribers, and our kids like them because the kids are their ages, and it gets them interested in sailing seeing the kids doing it. we're going to look for the other 2, and see if we find them interesting
@@LinusWilson don’t they have their own 10 dollar per month membership via their webpage? You’d expect them to have an equivalent number of Members as other 400k Sub Channels have Patreons?
I find these figures a bit high from the perspective that if incomes were that high I think more of them might be buying new boats. All the best to these channels thou they have worked really hard at their videos.
I was surprised Sailing Ruby Rose wasn't on the list. It is very informative, not quite so much tra el log vids as some channels (though still quite a bit) They also do great reviews - did a super series on catamarans while they were looking for their new boat, which they are building right now (seawind 1260) in Vietnam. Their video production value has gone way up as well - check them out.
Surprised Sailing Zatara did not make it to the list. They are family oriented and have 4 teens. I follow them faithfully. I also watch Sailing Uma and Gone with the Wynns. Thanks for the analysis.
I watch all of them! My faves are Project Atticus (I like the detail on boat projects and I REALLY loved their boat shopping series that led me to my Tayana 48 goal/dream) and Sailing Uma has gone to theeee most remote and beautiful places...their treck through Norway was exciting to watch and now they are on to Iceland! Of course the norms: LaVagabond and Delos got me started on the sailing channels. Nahoa I watch off and on depending on where they are. Free Range I watched for about a year. I used to watch Gone with the Wynns, but haven't caught up with them since they rescued their catamaran from Tonga. I have never watched Sailing Doodles. My favorite channels I watch that were NOT in the top 10 are: Expedition Drenched (for their adventures when they port and their scuba diving), Sailing the Far Side (2 sisters...super inspiring young chicks...if they can do it, so can I!) And finally Wind Hippie Sailing (Holly built her own boat and single hands this 27 footer around the world). That's my 2 cents ☺️
@Stephanie Burns hey they have THEIR viewpoint. And it happens to be my viewpoint, too. It's the same reason I quit watching zatara....you should watch them...he's a Trumper. I don't agree with him therefore I don't watch him. That simple. The UA-camr is allowed to express their viewpoint, and as a viewer, you can decide which show to watch. And what would ever make you think Riley and Elanyna wouldn't help sail Greta? They have been advocates of climate change since the beginning of their channel. They are very clearly progressive liberal views and values. You can tell just by the books Riley reads, the way they eat, to the way they live and what choices they make on their boat. If it took Greta for you to figure it out, you weren't paying attention. Plus, I hate to break it to you; climate change IS real. That doesn't mean you have to believe it, but whether you BELIEVE it or NOT, it doesn't change the FACTS. The facts remain real no matter who believes it. Just like the sky is blue, it's a fact; you could be color blind and not see it, but it doesn't mean it's not blue. Sorry to burst your bubble. You should actually do yourself a favor and read some science journals from various and numerous scientists and geologists. You think that they ALL just publish lies, and who is it that who get your information from so I can go research it to see this "counter truth?" If you give me a source, I'll definitely research it! And furthermore, if you were just passed about Greta you missed the best part of this series...he had Nikki Henderson on board!!!! If you don't know here or her creds....credit.... missed the whole point.
Cat Greatcircle is hands down my favorite channel, the production value is far better than all the others. The O'Kelly's, Delos, Sailing Uma, Ran, IMPI, Distant Shores, Magic Carpet, Zatara, Sailing Frenchman, Adventures of an old sea dog, Alluring Arctic Sailing, Erik Aanderaa, Sam Holmes, Sailing Fair Isle, Parlay Revival, and others. I was completely turned off by Sailing Atticus and Zingaro who have both done shameless plugs for money or falsely advertised their content by claiming extreme poverty or tried upselling with false claims of nudity to garner attention. Atticus made a video about unrepairable bulkheads and bad acting as a desperate plea for funds, obviously shallow misrepresentation of the truth. I do think that some of these channels are making decent money, but not as much as is spoken about in the above video.
Thanks for the great research. Did you do any digging into what the 11th-20th boats might be? I watch Odd Life Crafting, Sailing Magic Carpet, and occasionally, Sailing Miss Lone Star. I think each of these have Patreon members, but I don't know how well they do.
I started watching gone with the wynns when they first bought their boat. I haven’t watched any of the other channels, but after I’ve watched this video I think I’ll have a look at some of the others. I like the wynns because of their stories, places they visit and people they meet. Their video work and editing is very good. They make watching a lot of fun as well. Thanks for giving me a few more to check out.😎
Hey Linus, Jessica and Ryan Adventures seems to have a lot of well-done content....50k subscribers....I wonder where they stack up...keep the good stuff coming
Her videos are few are far between sadly. She spent time on SV Delos recently but I haven't seen her posting too much about it. She was busy doing an electronics refit and engine replacement so maybe after that we'll see something soon
I already watch La Vagabonde, Uma, Doodles, Wynns and Project Atticus of the ones on your list for more than a year now and then two more I follow is Sailing GBU and Sailing Zatara. I just enjoy watching how they do it and the locations they go to. They all put out fantastic content.
Okay..., no mention of, "the O'Kelly's" & "Onboard Lifestyles"...? Being new per sailing posts, (specifically catamarans), I've looked briefly @ those you mentioned. About a year now; following my 2 choices shown & enjoying. "I found; The Wildings"; 2 young kids refurbished an old cat / ketch on the hard in France, splashed & now in Spain. "I am learning as they all go... ." The O'Kelly's & Onboard Lifestyles incentivized me to pursue a cat SV & just do & learn what I can for my latter years of life. (I'm 72!) As for La Vag...? I may be wrong? Didn't La Vag get their start via finding & claiming an abandoned sailboat & legally filed paperwork(s) via the Coast Guard & through the Florida state processes to register / own?
It would be interesting to trace the upload consistency, editing quality (ability to tell a story), etcetera for successful versus unsuccessful channels. Obviously having a good on-screen personality helps, but I suspect a large factor in viewer retention is consistent uploads and expressing a story each episode. I also wonder how much the promise of T&A plays. I have a feeling that less overt T&A generally returns higher consistent Patreon revenue, although lower view count... Doodles and Delos definitely lean heavily into that, although I think Delos has changed over the last year or so.
The math needs to be explained in more detail as the numbers seem artificially high. Not believing that these channels are making anywhere near the amounts stated.
They are considerably higher than I suspected. I watched another content creator, in an entirely different space, do a video recently on his YT revenue. This creator actually pulled up his YT balance sheet/invoice (whatever it's called) and showed he made a tad under $400,000 (maybe even a bit higher, I forget) for the previous 12 months. I was gobsmacked. For context, this is a person who puts out daily videos, maybe 30-45 minutes in length of simple, largely unedited recorded game play, with some 50,000 - 75,000 views per video. This was just from viewers. Now that's almost 1000 minutes of content a month, with 1,500,000 millions views (give or take) compared to some of these sailing channels which probably clock in around 100 some minutes of content a month with maybe about the same number of views, if less. So I can't imaging their revenue is that much higher, when their minutes of content is so much lower, and the viewership numbers are about the same.
Sailing Uma are phenomenal. They are believable, and their videos bring the adventure to their fans.
The Wynns make the most professional, gorgeous videos I've seen outside of Hollywood. They make me feel like I'm sailing and diving in new and different places right along with them. I know it took some effort for them to smile through the rough spots, but they helped me survive COVD, and I thank them for it.
Ever notice how perfect there wardrobes are ?
You really think true sailors live like that on a boat ?
Sailing Uma definitely my top pick. Real sailing content.
Uma need to spend less time on the silly unscripted rubbish they do with each other and stick to the sailing /travel content .. when they're focused and on point they are awesome, but I end up FF half the videos.. just MHO
Oh please. Uma is so plastic.
Agreed, serious sailors.
Maya is not afraid to jump in on the tools and has developed some great skill as well.
yes they are good watching . Wish them well
Various channels for various reasons.
@@lbb101
For me, Delos is first- Just enjoy their filmmaking style.
@@lbb101 I will check it out. By action, I mean the pace of the video or the pace of the storytelling is good.
It does not make me lose focus.
The Wildlings needs some love IMHO. These 2 young sailors try so hard with so little. Hopefully, we can all help them out.
sailing The Good Bad and Ugly, These two are the most just normal and genuine persons with an attitude you will go far to get. Sailing Nandji. The most flat on earth pair that you will find. very comfortable in front of the camera.
Those are some of the best...
Doesn’t it bother you the basic mistakes they make. Their boat may not be structurally sound. The finish is questionable. Doing the wiring after the put up the walls just defies logic.
GbU is great
@@davidbonet578 that's part of the charm. We don't want them to be unsafe, but they are really entertaining.
Met Nick and Megan at the Annapolis boat show and they were super nice! Also met Colin from Parlay. Love sailing Parlay also super down to earth!
Round that off with Sailing Nahoa for my top three.
I mean no disrespect to the others but Sailing Uma is by far the best.
They went to school for film making and they pretty much built a pos into a pretty good looking boat plus they seem made for one another and it shows how much respect and love they have for each other. Yup they are one of the top if not the top in alot of areas
Absolutely agree about Uma. They are adventurous and amazing filmmakers . A very likable couple.
Love them!
They used to be really good, but I think they are a bit full of themselves now
The Best Videography is with out dought Sailing Uma, superb work and they sail everywhere!
I'm a little surprised that Parlay Revival hasn't made the top ten. They have been gaining a lot of interest in the past year.
Agreed!
He hasn't got anything like the skills of the others.
@@Tomm9y Skills as in videography?
@@Tomm9y What!!
It's all about the number of Patrons and views. Subs are great, but the have to watch the episodes
Maybe now that Athena is sailing, Sail Life will make this list.. The guy is a legend, and I can guarantee most of the channels on this list have mentioned him or quoted him.. He deserves to be on par or close to the people on this list.
He's spiffy good
You asked for recommendations- I like Sailing Dauntless channel - the family has crazy skills, a good family vibe and great videos of them repairing their first boat, all electric with Tesla batteries, and a huge solar array.
Being a single handed woman sailor I love the channels White Spot Pirates and Wind Hippie Sailing. They give me inspiration to live out my dreams !
I like those 2 the best also I started with them because they were in Panama where I grew up in Shelterbay
Yep both are really good. Better than some of the cringe worthy stuff I see with some of the couples.
And how can you not love Delos and and Nahoa
OH!
I watched SLV from the beginning.
Feels like a lifestyle magazine now.
I prefer Florence, Sam Holmes, Wind Hippie, Salty sea dog and Wildling.
$323k! 🤣🤣🤣
We would like that very much but it's hopelessly overestimated
Wynns have a new boat being built by. Hudson. Their main factory is in China. Need I say more? New factory in Philippines where humans rights violations are right next to China. DO NOT Support these people unless you don’t care about the less fortunate.
Search 2021 is state department report on human rights violations in the Philippines. From murdering people who speak out against human rights violations.
I can’t believe no one has mentioned Ryan’s & Sophie sailing?! Sophie does a great job telling their high sea stories! She’s so cute with her French accent, too! Good, wholesome channel and they deserve some support, too! Ryan just went through the most emotional experience ever in his life,
too, on a solo crossing. Cant wait to hear more about it!
Good to see that cruisers can support themselves this way. Before UA-cam, sailors wrote and published books to help support their voyages, and I read many of them before and during my live-aboard days (the 1990's). There's a rich sailing literature out there, with much useful advice. I do hope that the more modern videos have a permanent life and stay accessible, since in many cases they are truly valuable works of videographic art.
only a tiny, tiny fraction of YT sailors can sustain their travels doing this
One I really enjoy "Sampson Boat Co." Leo is rebuilding a 112 year old yacht called Tally Ho
That's an amazing task he took on. I can't wait to see that boat finished.
I like NAHOA, they interact more with the native population than other sailors. RAN, because of their camera work and scenery.
You would like Expedition Drenched they are good like Nahoa at interacting with the locals
@@atipsygypsylife I watched them a while ago, I drop in once in a while to see their progress.
Vegabond was a lot more interesting 5 years ago . There first 2 years was so entertaining. Guess you can't keep it up forever .
Zingaro was my favorite before kim left but now it's just James and random crew that don't seem to stick around and tge one girl who does just cooks and speaks no English and James will not even recognize he's dating her and we all know he is.. if Kim had stayed would have been my #1
I am surprised you aren't including Sampson Boat Co, which is rebuilding Tally Ho.
It's nice to see Vet Tails Sailing / Dr Sheddy with 393 subscribers. $3,000 per month treating lots of small animals as they travel.
Tally Ho should be way above Acorns to Arabella. But both are boat building channels, whereas Salt and Tar have finished and are now starting to sail
Sailing life
Sampson Boat Co, with Leo rebuilding classic sailboat Tally Ho has more than twice the number of subscribers than Acorn to Arabella; why is he not on the list?
I like some channels not on your list. Sampson Boat Co, Parlays Revival, Sail Life, Bums on a Boat, and a few others. SV Seeker, Zatata and Zingaro. Sailing into Freedom.
I think if you want to see old school boat builders SV YABA is incredible.
Only watch Uma now really and Leo Sampson. Dropped off La Vagabond as it’s not much about sailing now.
Yeah Vagabond crew is now unwatchable to me since it's just too polished and 'nice'. All edge is gone. But I guess it's carefully thoughtout strategy to please the most amount of people possible. Just not for me anymore.
I like Sailing Good Bad & Ugly - they are crazy, seems like they have almost no money and surprised they have not died (very funny to watch also)
I have thought the same way as you, but for me their schtick had gotten old and annoying.
All of these channels can thank Delos for two things;
1, Proving that sailing VLOGS can work on youtube.
I agree with GBU! They are funny as hell and completely down to earth with their $5K boat that they are refurbishing DYI.
Sailorama and Sailing Yaba are overlooked by the majority of people who have absolutely no taste in video quality and HUMANITARIAN effort....
@@rumblechick73 The dad on Zatara is funny as well sometimes.
@@farzana6676 True, as long as he leaves politics out of it. But the youngest son gets on my nerves sometimes.

My personal favorite is Free Range Sailing
Sailing Florence is an excellent channel; and Bums on a Boat are often amusing to watch.
We enjoy Nahoa, Winns, Zatara, Cruising Kiwis. Some I only follow WE sailing, Sailing GBU, Sailing Holly Blue, Sailing beyond boarders. Some of these are great but may not make any list per say.
Two more I've enjoyed that I haven't seen mentioned in the comments are:
1- Learning By Doing (Vernon is a truly good guy who does nice things for the native populations he encounters in Indonesia, and also happens to be a professional photographer, making for some stunning videos!) and
2- Mothership Adrift (loveable British family of 5 making their way around the world)
Where are Sailing GBU? My fav lately
My top 3, in no particular order are Gone With the Wynns, Sailing La Vagabond, and Sailing Zatara.
More power to them. They provide me with the vicarious pleasure of doing what they do.
I wonder how long before Sailing Magic Carpet cracks this list.
Free Range Sailing - standout authentic.
My 2 pesos.
Try Sailing Wildings or The Duracell Project.
Ditto, I can't stomach Riley and co anymore. I like Alluring Arctic Sailing at the moment.
Cadoha and Salty are great.
And if for nothing, but sheer bravery,
Wind hippy.
Thanks.
How To Sail Oceans is my personal favorite, but Sailing Uma is my close second - they both tell such great stories about what it takes to go cruising.
How about Expedition Evans and Odd Life Crafting.
Tula's Endless Summer, Ran Sailing. Excellent channels.
I was really hoping to see GBU and the O'Kelley's on this list.
Sailing Parlay and the OKelly’s are another two channels I would have thought would be in the top 10
GBU and Jib Sea is where it is at IMO.
The okelly’s?
La vaga overhead I’m sure is super high, 2 nannys and an editor?
Love the Wynn’s and Project Atticus
+1
Some of these channels have published their revenue data in the past (Delos being one of them) and these estimates are really, really high and I believe substantially overstated. Not taking away anything from these creators as they all work their butts off and put out quality material, but these estimates are based on some dubious assumptions. One is that all their Patrons are contributing weekly. That is simply not the case. I saw some examples where the typical split is 50/50 or less between weekly contributors and one-time or occasional. That would reduce these projected revenue numbers by probably 50% or more.
We assumed patrons are only contributing half the time. That was stated in the video.
@@SlowBoatSailing Still believe that to be overstated. Suggest you find Delos' video from a couple years ago when they walked thru the numbers and calibrate that against their Patron count at the time to refine your assumptions.
Sailing Mereweather is my favourite. Informative, genuine, and very natural.
Somehow I don't think any of these channels make these huge incomes, perhaps HALF that amount, if that.
I wonder where “Distance Shores” “Drake Paragon” and “The Lazy Gecko “ rank on the list.
Sailing Jibsea is good value, young channel that puts a lot of effort into their clips.
Curious about Nandji and GBU
Need to look at Sailing Zatara. They would probably be a top 5
They don’t do Patreon. That is why they did not make the highest paid list.
Very surprised Sampson Boat Co. is not on the list. Seems to have a big following around the world.
My only issue with Atticus is the the over use/crutch word "Buddy."
Well, Vagabond lost me when they sailed the teenage faux climate non scientist globalist shill across the pond. Only one political viewpoint allowed?
@@stephanieburns4560 my reply to you is here...... either above or below this.
@@stephanieburns4560 for the record you are right, Greta is not a scientist. She is an activist. Do you know the difference?
I ranked the top 25 by views by revenues. The video would be too long with 11-25.
Thanks for giving me a few more to check out.😎
Nicki never wears the same clothes twice. Does that seem real to you . ?
@@russpost2557 Nicki who ?
You mean Nikki , yeah , besides what woman does where the same clothes twice ?
Luv em all! Sailing Doodles got me started on sailing vids! Bobby is awesome! Maya & Aladino r becoming my favorites
I like sailing family on Archer. Where do they rank?
Below zero. That captain is a horrible, angry human being, always griping about something.
What about Parley Revival?
Hey Linus, Jessica and Ryan Adventures seems to have a lot of well-done content....50k subscribers....I wonder where they stack up...keep the good stuff coming
I'll predict Taylor's Travels makes the list next year. She shot to 100K subs pretty fast. Just needs to make vids more often.
Her videos are few are far between sadly.
She spent time on SV Delos recently but I haven't seen her posting too much about it. She was busy doing an electronics refit and engine replacement so maybe after that we'll see something soon
She shot up even more now that she was crewing on Delos for awhile...broadened her viewers! Go Taylor!!
Delos is still my #1 i lost all respect for the vagabonds and unsubbed
Okay..., no mention of, "the O'Kelly's" & "Onboard Lifestyles"...? Being new per sailing posts, (specifically catamarans), I've looked briefly @ those you mentioned. About a year now; following my 2 choices shown & enjoying. "I found; The Wildings"; 2 young kids refurbished an old cat / ketch on the hard in France, splashed & now in Spain. "I am learning as they all go... ." The O'Kelly's & Onboard Lifestyles incentivized me to pursue a cat SV & just do & learn what I can for my latter years of life. (I'm 72!)
As for La Vag...? I may be wrong? Didn't La Vag get their start via finding & claiming an abandoned sailboat & legally filed paperwork(s) via the Coast Guard & through the Florida state processes to register / own?
Keep your eye out for “Taylor’s Travels “. She was with Bobby on doodles , and has crewed with Delos as well. She will be number one by next year!
Would like to have seen Tally-ho and Sam Holmes. Seems we still have along way to go, Russel Brand has 4.5M subs?
Sorry it’s just sailing channels. Methodology explained in video. Pewdiepie was not looked at either.
@@SlowBoatSailing Riley and Elyana feel like family to me. One day they will be bigger than Russel Brand.
Sailing doodles and La vaga aren’t sailing channels in my view
Sailing zatara…?
I'm surprised Sampson Boat Co. Isn't on the list.
All the assumptions are stated and or written down in the video.
Patreon is what is the steady income. The number of views fluctuate
The Covid shutdown give a big boost to sailing channels that allow us to vicariously escape from bondage and sail the world.
