      @@thedukeofmanville sorry to bother you again, I was wondering if you where really able to sit on top of the cover (thumbnail) or would it break I only ask since when I'm out camping I tend to stack allot of stuff on my cover's, and I can't find anything with weight limits. Thank you very much and best of luck. :)

    • @thedukeofmanville
      @thedukeofmanville  8 місяців тому +3

      @@Xasukis I'm not sure what the weight limit is, but I wouldn't stand on it. I weigh 230. However, my son weighs 70 pounds and he was able to walk on it. Just spread the weight out and you should be okay. Just don't put a lot of weight concentrated on a small area.
      I hope this helps.

    Great information. Thank you. I liked that the manual tonneau cover is secure like a vault. That had not occurred to me.

    Thank you so much for doing a water test! I think it’s the first one I’ve seen! While the Lomax has less water penetration (had one on my F-150), you raise a very good point about security.

    I recieved mine in the new packaging and in good condition. The new packaging only had styrofoam on the ends and other Rivianites are getting the new package with the panels bent in the middle. Rivian should have put a center support in as well.

    • @thedukeofmanville
      @thedukeofmanville  7 місяців тому

      That's too bad! Perhaps they need to change shipping companies at this point.

    I really though the cover would go in if you were to push it manually. They should have made that clear way with some railing that would make Go inside as the automatic one except for a few inches or a cord to pull it back out.

    • @davec866
      @davec866 8 місяців тому +1

      The panels on the manual cover are much larger than the powered cover segments. So they cannot fit in the space that the power cover uses.

    For a man with an electric truck you’re awfully concerned about gas.

    • @thedukeofmanville
      @thedukeofmanville  4 місяці тому

      It's for cutting the 5 acres with the zeroturn mower. It uses 15 gallons of gas a week. Waiting for an affordable commercial grade electric zeroturn to go to market. Right now they are $20K+

    Great water test. How about the motorized tonneau? Is the motorized better or worst as to water infiltration.

    • @thedukeofmanville
      @thedukeofmanville  7 місяців тому

      They just updated the motorized tonneau cover, so very few people have the new one. Therefore, I have not seen any water test for the updated tonneau cover.

    How sturdy is the top? The thumbnail shows you lying on it, but that doesn't show up in the video. Any bending or flexing when you're on it? I'm worried about the sturdiness breaking the seals or otherwise bending/flexing that makes it not track well to slide in/out.

    • @thedukeofmanville
      @thedukeofmanville  7 місяців тому

      I weigh 230 pounds, and if the weight is spread over the panels it is fine. However, if I stood on it it will bend. The weak point on this is the plastic edges. I expect them to break sooner or later. There are other options on the market that I will be looking into.

    How much was the tonneau? Looks like it’s out of stock on the rivian gear shop

    • @thedukeofmanville
      @thedukeofmanville  7 місяців тому +1

      It's currently cost $1800.00, but I don't think it available in the Shop. You may find a better option from a third-party website.

    This has to be the biggest disappointment with Rivian - the auto cover. I see the Cybertruck cover working and it makes my teeth clutch.

      I agree, this is a big miss on Rivian's part. Hopefully, they can make it right with the updated auto cover. However, I haven't opened my manual cover since I installed it in this video😅

    As a CPA, I have a major going concern issue with Rivian. Rivian started with a lot of money, but consistently loses over $1 bill every quarter. As others have said, lots of competition arrives in '24, e.g., Kia EV9 SUV at around $70k. And the Tesla's cybertruck will also eventually come out and be under $60k. Rivian's $90,000 vehicles are just too costly

    • @thedukeofmanville
      @thedukeofmanville  8 місяців тому +4

      Costly for whom? And what vehicles are you comparing? A 700hp Ford Raptor R cost $140K, and a 700hp Rivian cost about $85K. Also, I would compare the Rivian R1S to a Range Rover not a Kia. Kia is not a premium brand, and there is space in the market for all types of EVs. The only brand that stands to lose the most market share is Tesla, and that's because they have the largest market share.

    • @dianewallace6064

      Rivian will eventually make a smaller truck and smaller SUV. They are just not there yet because they are busy making the current R1T and R1S. We have an R1T but I am saving up to buy a Tesla model 3 also for commuting 40 miles a day.

      If the long delayed CyberTruck ever comes to market under $60K I'll buy you one 😂

    • @smarticus6384
      @smarticus6384 8 місяців тому +4

      Rivian is actually in a better market position than it appears. The R1T is not trying to be a full-size Pickup like the Cybertruck, Lightning, RAM-Rev or Silverado. It's more of a mid-size pickup with more off-road capabilities, and it is available to buy today. At the moment, it sits in its own space. Eventually, there will be more competition, like Jeep or maybe someday a Raptor-EV, or ZR2 EV, etc. However, today's economic policies are causing prices to accelerate higher and higher, faster than ever, so unfortunately, the prices for an R1T today might seem like a bargain five years from now. As far as Rivian’s financial situation, it might not be as bad as it looks either. Rivian has something none of the others (besides Tesla) has, and that is no debt. The legacies are strapped with billions of debt from internal combustion production. Now, they have to double down on even more debt to produce EVs, which puts them at a unique disadvantage because if or when combustion ends, they still have to pay off the debt. How are they going to do that? I would look for Amazon to take a more considerable investment role with Rivian should the factory in Georgia and the affordable R2 products not come to market soon enough. Debt is a big problem right now with manufacturers, and it's not an easy problem to solve, especially now that labor has increased considerably. The only way out is to force higher prices onto the consumers.

      @davec866 8 місяців тому +2

      The Cybertruck will never be under $60K. And since you can now lease an R1T, that will expand the market for Rivian.
