This was fantastic. No sponsor, no nonsense, lots of very valuable information. I now know that if I have a head gasket leak, I can try this without doing even more damage. The way I see it, it's a cheap bet that might work out. Love every single one of your videos.

My son had a 98 Ranger 2.5 with a slight head gasket leak. He needed the truck on the road, so we tried Blue Devil.
I wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised when it actually did seal the leak. He had the truck for another couple years
    and the leak never returned.

Steve, I had good results with the Bar's product that is compatible with coolant and is left in the system. Worked for a couple years on my Subaru until the water pump suddenly failed and the engine overheated, then I went ahead and did the head job.
Really enjoy your channel and appreciate your approach to troubleshooting and fixing problems.

My uncle did that same trick with waterglass aka sodium silicate. He drained the radiator and flushed the system, then put a quart of waterglass in the radiator and topped it off with 50/50 mix. After about a week of driving the truck stopped blowing white smoke out the tailpipe, and until he wrecked the truck hitting a deer 4 years later, the leak never returned.

Thanks for testing this, very interesting!
Only way water is getting into the cylinder is on the intake stroke when cylinder is at a lower pressure than the water jacket. As soon soon as combustion occurs its going to hit back with a pressure pulse hundreds of times greater than the cooling system pressure. I can't imagine how this could ever work, but it's nice to see it put to the test.

I've never had much luck with mechanic in a can. If that Ranger has the 2.9, head gaskets are a common fail. Pulling the head would make for some interesting content. Your channels first in line when you post.

I like your passive method of filling it up using the water pump. The cooling system isn't made for high pressure. Forcing garden hose pressure at 60PSI invariably in my experience causes long lasting leaks, bursts weak heater cores, etc. Good idea!

Watching you was a rerun of my experience on my 1989 GM 5.7. Blowing smoke out the tailpiple just as bad to include coolant. I failed to flush the system nor ensure all the coolant was out. GMs hold a lot of AF. Used both DB and K Seal and neither worked. Then pulled the heads and redid the gaskets and it still did not seal. With mainly water in the coolant put another can of K Seal and it worked. In your case you should have done a few hot and cold overnight soaks and driven it. I bet it would have sealed that way. Keep in mind that not all such problems are the head gaskets. In my case it may be either a crack in the block or the intake manifold has an internal crack.

I think some have it start working after four or five heat cool cycles. Since the sodium silicate needs heat to work, wouldn't it be better with the thermostat in? The high heat by the head gasket solidifies the stuff and stops the leak.

I think removing the thermostat and setting the heater up on high heat might have given you better results , I believe that's what is printed on the can, because the thermostat opens and closes at different Temps it's possible for the blue devil process not to work as well as it could have with it out for free flow , also the heater core will have some old coolant and debris if you don't turn it on on high heat that dirty water stays in it and will weaken the nlue devil. Just my 2 cents worth.

I tried blue devil pour and go at first and didn’t take thermostat out. I folled directions and let it sit for 50 mins but little did I know my heater core was clogged up and that’s why I wasn’t getting any heat in the cabin. So since I wasn’t getting proper coolant circulation in my system I drained it and then the next day my gasket tester kit came in the mail so I done a head gasket chemical test on it and the liquid turned green from blue. The kit works like this… You pour the blue chemical in the flask and put it in your radiator opening. then you squeeze the bulb and if the blue liquid turns yellow then you have a blown head gasket. Since my liquid turned green that told me that I have a small leak in the head gasket even after
The 1st batch of pour and go blue devil. So I replaced my heater core and got my heat working and coolant flowing good then I bought the non pour and go bottle and took my thermostat out and followed the instructions carefully. Let it cool down and drained the blue devil and refilled with coolant and the used my gasket tester kit again to see if it turned green again and was very impressed with blue devil! My tester liquid was as blue as it was when it came out of the bottle!!
So very impressed and as far as I can tell there is no damage to my car system and boy does it feel good to have my heat back at the start of this winter!!

Last time I had that type of dense white smoke it was caused by brake fluid getting out of the power-assist brake sytem into the intake manifold but that was a long time ago, maybe things work different now, but I'd want to look at the oil to see if water was in it and do a comp test, and check the brake fluid level before diagnosing/trying to fix a head gasket problem. But maybe he did all that but didn't say.
