I've never tried the Blue Devil branded stuff, but I had success with K-Seal head gasket repair on a beater 2003 Hyundai Elantra a couple years back. It had the typical white cloud out the exhaust, the oil looked like a chocolate milkshake, pulled the spark plugs out of it and number 3 was soaked and the gap was completely closed with goo. It was a car I paid 1500 bucks for and used as a winter beater for 7 years, it wasn't worth my time or money to fix it the correct way, I figured I'd give the $30 fix a try before hauling the car in for scrap. I drove it back and forth to work for few days afterwards, put like 75 miles on it and it stopped smoking and the misfire cleared up. I gave the car to my 16 year old nephew, told him it would probably get him around for awhile as he saved up for something nicer, that was 3 years ago and he's still driving the thing... It's survived all the standard issue neglect and complete lack of maintenance that comes along with being a teenage boys first car, so I imagine it'd be fine for most normal functioning adults.
I was having the same problem with my f150 . Hydro locking, the same exact thing as yours, and I followed your advice and problem solved, 9 months and still going at 394,000 miles, thank you 😊👍👍👍

I know in Nevada, they use 30% antifreeze and 70% water. The opposite of the east coast. Because it never gets to freezing temperatures. It's up to 120 degrees during the day in the summer and cools down to 60 degrees at night. I learned this from another member's channel. So I guessing it's pretty hot where he lives. The jokes were pretty funny too without going overboard. Kudos to you brother!!! 👍

Worked for 2009 Chevy Equinox. You MUST remove the thermostat! And you must pour the whole bottle directly into the thermostat housing NOT the reservoir. It will work! You must be careful. If it doesn't work the first go at a cold start do it again and again. Took me 3 full cold starts to fully seal the leak! I fixed my 2007 chevy 3.5 impala with Blue Devil. I completely rebuilt my engine, but after about a year I noticed my coolant was low with allot of crud in radiator. After cleaning it out a few times I knew it was the head gasket leaking. Anyway, I flushed the radiator and engine a few times and used a big bottle of Blue Devil per the instructions. I could not believe it. I have not had a problem since, it has been several years now. Thanks Scotty !
question for you.....I am having my mechanic run blue devil next week on my car. I am having to keep refilling my coolant but I see none on the ground. It is leaking into one of the cylinders, the plug was white. Misfire codes are present as well. Now I have no steam coming from the tailpipe at all, and I also have clear oil. Could it be something other than a head gasket?
@@LatrellSprewell15 There is a chemical test kit you can fix to your radiator. If you are leaking between the cylinder and the coolant channel exhaust gas will blow into the coolant. The test kit will show combustion gas in your coolant. Mentioned in the video. You could be leaking oil into the cylinder from the intake valve and leaking valve stem seals. But, since you are dropping coolant level, I would start with the Blue Devil. You may want to do the blue devil trick yourself to save some money as it does take a fair amount of time to flush your radiator and engine a few times and then the time to add the blue devil and all. Your mechanic could charge a couple of hours labor?

Hi Herb- enjoyed your video. I had the same issue with a 93 Toyota Corolla. I don't want to break your heart or spoil your expectations. Blue Devil/Bars Stop Leak/ and other sealers usually last (if you are lucky) around a year. What happens is that your head gasket will simply start leaking in another area. I suggest you use the "Pour n' Go" by Blue Devil after a year if it shows loss or not. Unfortunately, sealers do "not get along" with antifreeze and your problem will resurface at any given time. Sealers are a "Band-Aid" to head gasket repairs but I can see your point in your vehicle where the motor must be removed. As far as my Toyota was concerned, I had a severe head gasket leak and I used the "Bars Block Seal" which required the same procedure as yours did with the sealing. I was able to drive the vehicle for another three years by adding sealers annually before I retired the vehicle at 280 thousand miles.
No I did not. The "pour n go" first, which did not completely rid me of my issue, then the "Bars Block Seal" which required multiple steps and allowing it to dry overnight. The Bars got me through another year, but again, the gasket leaked in a different area and ruined my engine. @@marylamb6063
I have been using SuperTech synthetic oil for years. It’s great oil. I used the pour and go Blue Devil in my truck because my head gasket leak wasn’t as bad as yours. I had to do a couple idling runs like you did to get it to seal.
I got 20,000 miles out of my first treatment on a tundra. Going for number 2, with the method of leaving it in for a day or 2 before draining as well. I let it idle this time for an hour, then took it out for a few runs where i gunned it a bit on some stretches and no more steam. All in all an hour and 50 minutes, about 20 minutes was driving. Well see how it goes the next fews days..
I have the same van. I'm hoping this works like yours did. However video says fix for$60 ish. But you need 2 bottles, radiator cleaner, distilled water, gallons of radiator fluid. Still better than a rebuild. Funny how mine was also cylinder 7.
200 miles later and still no engine light. Running great. I had already changed my bad plug before doing the treatment so half way through the 50 minutes, it sealed up and there was no longer any water coming out of the pipe. I drove @ 150 miles without the thermostat or radiator fluid, just water and treatment. Put the radiator fluid and new thermostat in and seems to running great.
Glad to see someone tried this on a 8+2 more 10 cylinder engine because read on bottle only for a 4-to-6-cylinder engine at the most. I was having over heating issues going up steep hills pulling a 15K load. What was happening steam was flowing out the fill bottle over fill hose not to mention lots of water. Now I put a brand-new radiator in my 6.6 Duramax new water pump new thermostats. First thing I did was to replace the thermostats takes 2 by the way when I opened it up found one of the thermostats upside down. Got new water pump in now there is a design flaw on the water pump two studs go on the water pump housing one nut on the back side was very miserable to get off being it sat by the pipe going back to the engine along the header and the engine mount was in the way so I drilled out the threads on the water pump where the studs were to go and used bolts instead from the back of the pipe to the front of the engine. New aluminum 4 core radiator bought on E bay with electric fans. Now before all this had a pressure check done to the cooling system did not reveal I had a head gasket leak then someone told me might be the cause. After I got everything in ran the engine at high rev without the fans being connected yet to power then it went from below 200 to 250 I shut the engine off steam was just barley coming out of the overflow pipe then stopped. Another mechanic asked if I ever did a sniffer test you can buy these tests at harbor freight for $30.00 and the blue dye for $10.00. My results were blue fluid to a greenish light blue color. Did not turn full yellow like you find on UA-cam but still results are small head gasket leak. I do not want this stuff in my new radiator so designed a pipe to route around the radiator. Will have to watch the temperature, being won't have radiator but when using the flush kit running the heater engine never over heated and I ran it for 15 minutes Though I have not removed thermostats yet. So tomorrow the 4th of November 2024 will be placing the red devil head gasket seal into the Chevrolet Topkick.
I had a Ford minivan once in the 80's. Hated working on it. Switched to Toyotas. Only basic maintenance required. My son has a Dodge Ram with a blown head gasket. I'm gonna try one of these sealers.
Hey, Herb. I have a question. You mentioned to keep the sealant in the car for awhile to insure everything works out....My question to you is, did you still have the Thermostat taken off? Or when you took it for a drive, did you put the thermostat back on while the blue devil was in the engine?
Your Goofy humor is right up my alley. I'm the same way you're just on a higher level than me. You actually had me going on the not mixing different brand distilled water. I was like wait, what?! That's the same thing. 😂
That's really interesting about the inert silica molecules being activated by the combustion gasses, i always wondered how this stuff sealed without clogging, makes sense now.
Love the safety advice lol. Although i followed all this advice and then accidentally forgot to put the car in park while working on it and flattened a buddy.
I was so glad you told us NOT to eat the milkshake. I was thinking... Ummm... I sure would like to eat the Milkshake but then Herb said DON"T. So I was like Okay... I won't eat the milkshake.😁
I came back here just to make this comment and say Blue Devil works. I'm in southern Ontario, Canada and perhaps estimates will vary depending on geographic location. My check engine light came on and I had a code for a cylinder misfire in cylinder #4. After replacing coil, spark plug and fuel injector the check engine light was still coming on. I took my van to the Ford dealer. I have a 2010 Ford E250 4.6L with 199,000km on the odometer. They confirm it's got a blown head gasket and quoted $6,534.00 to fully repair. I followed the directions for Blue Devil exactly. I bought the Blue Devil radiator flush and followed that also. My van needed 2 bottles of Blue Devil and 2 bottles of their radiator flush based on its capacity and just followed everything. On the second day after completing the process my check engine light went off by itself (did not code clear with the code reader) and its been off ever since. I have since drove the van about 1000kms. It works. So if you have a blown head gasket you should use this and I can only attest to it working if you follow it 100%. But it seems like many people have success with just pouring it and forgetting it.
Thanks... I am going to do this on my 2003 Excursion 6.8 also. Has slight overheat coolant running through overflow. Lately getting slight misfire on startup, no codes though. To be sure i will check for exhaust gases in the bottle..
I have a 04 5.3 that is pumping oil out the rear main. 5 quarts a month. I tried Blue Devil rear main sealer. In three days the leak stopped. Maybe 5 drops overnight. I have to add some more every couple months. But after 2 years my results haven't changed.
I tried it once but after 2 years the problem came back, so it is just temporary so we can save enough money to do a real repair. But since my lazy ass didn't save to repair I will try it once again and I will update my results.

Great step by step video. Best part was the three month follow-up on how well it was holding up.
Yeah, it's super high in calories.
@@HerbOMatic could oil coming out my exaust pipe be a blown head gasket ?
@@icyflacco9953 YES THIS IS A VERY MUCH A POSITIVE SIGN
Are you sure we can drink the flush water? That second flush water looked so cold, clean and refreshing
I feel like this guy woulda saved me from trying to smell the peanut butter in the rat trap. . not just perfessor level smart, but, a real friend.
Pulling the passenger side kick panel and seat makes it easy to work on the engine from the inside and remove the doghouse
Thanks... I am going to do this on my 2003 Excursion 6.8 also. Has slight overheat coolant running through overflow. Lately getting slight misfire on startup, no codes though. To be sure i will check for exhaust gases in the bottle..
Thanks for the warnings I was about to drink all my engine's fluids.
It's tempting but some of the fluids will give you hilarious amounts of awful gas.
Did it work the second time??
Yes it worked the second time@@jkenney940
I’m watching this video to do it myself. Only problem I’ll have is that it’s 5 degrees outside here 😢. Great job man THANKS
I'm getting commercial breaks every 90 seconds. Gonna bow out on this video, but thank you again for your videos. I always enjoy them.
I'm going to watch this on incognito mode and see what you mean. I use the standard monetization.
I only got 4 ads during the entire video. Weird
Thanks. I was watching via Fire stick. Perhaps that's part of the issue.
I have UA-cam premium. I hate commercials
My ODB2 port is in my glowbox on the passenger side. So NO not always on the driver side. Good video non the less.
Is your steering wheel on the wrong side of the car?
@@HerbOMatic Nope. Just as a general thing with cars as a whole. There is always gonna be exeptions to the rule. But I agree with what you said if I put a mostly infront of it :)
Sometimes people get lucky with liquid band aids..however when it fails, it will be in the middle of nowhere..one person I know done this two years ago..20,000 miles no problem...his leak was tiny
I subscribe after he went out and bought new tools to make himself feel better love it me too sounds like a great idea
I love your humor, thanks for doing these videos.
Thanks Tom, they are fun to make, although I hated that my engine is blown!
We use to use Liquid glass ( always worked ) worked so well you have trouble removing the head !
When this engine goes down, I'll dump more goop in it, and order a long block!
@@HerbOMatic Or just actually replace the head gasket - it's not THAT bad of a job [checks calendar] - wait, I've been working on this for how many weeks now??? 6 weeks tomorrow?? And mine are easy to get to / get out (though they are cast iron heads, so they weigh a lot and I used an engine hoist to get them out/back in again). I'd be very skeptical of the sealers working on a diesel though... compression ratio is a LOT higher!
@@HerbOMatic those v10’s aren’t cheap !
Thanks for cooking video. I'v got hungry while watching this so I started eating and drinking.
Careful, that milkshake is high in calories!
"DON'T DRINK THE BEER." Kudos to the wifey for her support!!!
Glad it worked for ya, head gasket job on those could total the vehicle
Luckily I have the 98 Ford E250 cargo van with the 4.2 l V6 Essex engine so any engine work that needs done I can do it from the inside of the van with the doghouse out I've done intake gaskets and intake passage cleaning and I deleted the PCV so now the crank case is vented to air and EVAP lines are all deleted too my van is emissions exempt in VA since it's 25 years old but yea I been trying to get it to run as smoothly and perfect as possible
Band aid in can fix that is a temp fix.Lot of times it will wash out the piston rings too. Will have a miss with a headgasket problem
I've done oil changes on a few of those vans and the engines are packed in there! Lot of fun too when they'd just came off the highway, not only messy but 'warmm'
I was just thinking I have not seen a bunker video for a while, then this video shows up. Not the video I really wanted, but better than nothing :-)
Used to be a uhaul truck that explains everything. Those trucks get abused bad.I have three v10 fords and all of them have over 390 thousand miles and zero problems other then plugs and coil packs
I really like your style, my channel is growing but you really take time in your video editing and I dig it 😉
Thanks man, I see you are fixing up an Avenger, I had a Dodge Stealth when I was a teen and miss it often!
@@HerbOMatic you must get another one!
My 07 Toyota sienna with 117,000 miles blew a head gasket so much for all the hype you hear about Toyota s yup most of it is hype, anyhow going to try some of this as there are many of these types of products available now. I had done this back in 2005 to another vehicle and I didn't bother to clear out the system I just poured all of the product in the system, the heat of the engine will burn the water out of the oil, just take it for a bit of a drive, it was still running ok two years later. And the Super Tech oil is made by Quaker state/Pennzoil. Just a little less because it's Walmart brand.
I now know what parts of the car I shouldn't eat or drink.
That leaves all the rest, Bon Appetit!
Don't eat your car and sue me when you get sick.
Very informative and easy to follow tutorial. Giving Chrisfix a run for his money. Love the humor. Was waiting for a Kelis joke as soon as you mentioned milkshake and you didn’t disappoint.
The side to side hand movements were a bit of a tribute to Chris. I don't think I'll be hurting his channel anytime soon but I do like to have a laugh! Thanks Steve!
Chris fix is awesome !! Please don’t knock him like that. This solution doesn’t always work.
@@derekhaywood1844 relax Derek. No one is knocking anyone.

I need that Fiesta Agua Amigo hahajahha you are hilarious bro. 😅😂
comedy is amazing, especially the loose hose
Appreciate the thorough video.
Helpful and funny.
Well done!
I did the same thing when my car severely overheated from a blown water pump. Immediately went out and bought a Milwaukee cordless ratchet! 😅
Still not sure if my car has a head gasket issue though.
Super tech oil is actually very good oil they tested it with a bunch of other oils on the farm channel I can't remember the whole name of the channel but super tech did very good against the other oils
I use it in my vehicles for many years keeps my engine clean runs great.
gezus blue devil's up over $50 a bottle, it used to be half that price, that's crazy...
I've always had good luck with KW block seal, it was a preflush type also and never had it not work but i haven't heard good things about the block sealers that claim to work with antifreeze.....
KW is good stuff and alot cheaper then Blue Devil. All those sealers are the same stuff, sodium silicate, read the ingredients. $13 vs $60.. for the same thing, different color.
Those big O engines were prone to having intake manifold problems so that could be stuck on antifreeze also
Its blues clues and dora the engine explorer can you say fouled plug or needs a new engine
Id change the spark plugs too. The plugs likely took damage before you noticed the issue
Long story short.
I bought a 2014 E250, has the 5.4 Triton. Got it on bid for very cheap.
Gonna try this same exact thing this week. Hoping itll work. If it does. Ill be saving $4k in repairs.
If it dont work. I sell the van for more than I won it for on bid. I got a deal that I couldnt pass up.
Has a brand new transmission with a warranty.
Van still work to this day?
Do you think it's a good idea to bypass the heater core before using this stuff?
I get steam but no coolant loss its probably moisture from the combustion process
I gotta 01 Mitsubishi mirage wit a gasket problem. Milkshake gunk n all.. My only means of transportation, I'm glad 2 see dat dis stuff really wrks. Wonder hw lng does dis stuff really keeps a kar n wrkn condition.
beautiful work, great man! thank you, unfortunayely we have -1Celcius in the UK and my Mazda3 has got blown head gasket, and I have no garage:)
Can't wait until u do the bunker again
I had to fix the truck so I could drive back down there and work on it.
@@HerbOMatic hope u get ur truck fixed & can't wait to see how it Bunker turned out.

the moral of the story is NEVER lend friends your vehicle specially if they do not know about mechanical.
Yes!!!! Shopping to feel better. My motto too!
Excellent instructional video ! Excellent step by step lessons Herb.
Instructions unclear. I drank the bottle of gasket sealer and car still won't start.
😂😂😂 update???
Boofed it and running ice cold! 😂
SuperTech isn't bad stuff, it's made by the same people who make Kirkland Signature, Amazon Basics, and Meijer brand oils (possibly more too.) I believe the manufacturer is Warren Distribution, you should be able to find that on the back of the bottle's label somewhere.
Nice to see Daisy Duke again!
Wow your soo complete explained everything! Great content!! 🙏
K-Seal always works!
I haven't laughed this hard in awhile. Shopping for a garden hose nozzle to replace the wife now. 🤣👍
I didn't try but am feeling so better now that I saw your video and I will do as u say probably with a different product because here in my country we don't get as we like ,so as soon as I try your fix I will hit u up with some information peace bro, and I hope my milk shake don't bring no boys to my yard 😂😂😂love that part cheers.
I'm thankful for the PSA's, I would've drank that milkshake and vape'd that exhaust juice
v10 had a pi...i learned something today. but yet v8 has plastic....good ole ford triton.
"you cant even fill it running...well yeah you can fill it running"😂
hey herb, how many bottles of the blue devil did you use in this video,.. i ask because i have a 7.4 ltr engine with a 4 core radiator,.. same issues you had,.. but not as bad,...
It was good that your thermostat was ok when you left the blue mixture in the system.
Thank you for the good video. I have the same problem right now.
I don't miss working on vans. That Milkshake does not bring all the boys to the yard.
Kelis was singing about a different milkshake?
Looks like a short term fix. It's been over a year now and I am wondering if the band-aid is still holding. It's just a matter of time Herb.
She's holding, 20k miles since. I need to do an update video
@@HerbOMatic You could also pin an update comment at the top of the video. I would really like to be able to compare the different sealers and pick the one that works the best.
Hell ya super tech oil and filter is honestly just as good as the wix or something and mobile 1
The true meaning of my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard. The junkyard. Thank God for blue devil.
It's great so far....! Even if it blows eventually buys you time on an engine that has been cooked.
Good luck with it mate - I hate car issues, they make me cry!
It will probably be fine, if it fails I'll pour more goop in there and order an engine!
Head gasket stuff works but most times plugs your heat exchanger and trans cooler....ect. so you end up having to go back and flush that. Still cheaper than a head gasket
Another great video herb😎👍
Keep us posted, most of the time these mechanic in a bottle fixes are temporary. Nice video!
Then seal it again? 😉
when you said "mechanic" this is what some mechanics do to their "friend's" cars who want to sell the car with a blown head gasket.
well done! enjoyed the humor. Curious to understand why/how this is preferred to the POUR N GO product. Thoughts?
I've seen the results of what Blue devil does to an engine You're better off using bars leak copper seal
24:03 If the leak is really really bad, you could try running it to seal with the offending cylinder spark plug out.
But it’s exhaust gas heat activated so won’t seal the leak on that cylinder
Geez, look at Negative Nancy over here - don't drink this, don't vape that, don't eat the milkshake - come on man, you gotta live a little!
Oh I do, you just can't condone it on camera or you get in trouble!
Love the video. Just be careful of your dog. They like the sweet smell.
