And I miss everything so badly. Germany is a great place, but its not like it. I get so sad that we have such a bad government doing a terrible job right now.
O governo tá ruim? Estamos nos recuperando de 15 anos de pura ladroagem. Congresso, Senado e STF querendo a roubalheira de volta. Não é fácil, mas é o único caminho.
I've heard time and time again from people who visit Rio that it's so underrated. This video truly captures a bit of that magic! Amazing content you guys can't wait for the rest of the series ♥️
If you look at google maps you will see that the parts that tourists usually shoot or photograph are not even 5% of the city. The city is very large, with 12 million inhabitants in the metropolitan region. The mountains of the Rio hide most of the city on the other side, where most tourists do not go. Usually tourists only film two neighborhoods in the city: Copacabana and Ipanema, but the city has 163 neighborhoods.
Na verdade todos os lugares são diferentes, tu podes ir ao Rio, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Ceára, Manaus, Brasilia... e todos serão diferentes, terão uma vibe especial.

Taking due care not to keep cell phones and valuables on display on the street and not enter favelas dominated by traffic by mistake, it is relatively safe. Just always stay alert. Tourist places have more policing and are safer. The most dangerous areas of the city are not touristic. So it is recommended to always use Uber and 99 Taxi, because if you put the destination address of a dangerous place, most drivers will refuse the race and warn you of the danger.

Rio was the capital of Brazil for 200 years (till 60's) and it is the "face" of the country around the world. For this reason and a lot more I think Rio should be considered a federal city, a second capital, like San Pittsburg or Istanbul. What happens in this city is a national interest, it's the country's image abroad. Russia didn't abandon San Pittsburg, this would be absurd but that's what happened to Rio. A city prepared to be the capital for so long and the face of the country can't be treated just like another city. There are other reasons to say it, but this should be a small commentary.

I’m Brazilian, living out of my country and this video made me feel so emotional! I love discovering places and new cultures, but it’s so nice to see our culture being discovered too. Ps: I’m from south of Brazil but Rio is one of my favourite places on earth! ❤️
ok. to clarify. people started building over the hills because before that poor people used to live in crammed european style houses (cortiços) in the downtown area of the city, but the governants and elite society at the time wanted to emulate the european lifestyle , especially Parisian lifestyle. So the mayor at the time decided to get all those downtown old poor houses down to expand the streets, and poor people had nowhere to go but to illegally build over the hills.Aand actually, even before this, you also had the freed slaves, that once the slavery was officially over in BR, slaves were free but had absolutely nothing to build a life on. They also most often wouldn't find work in agriculture because the government and elite at the time made a big effort to bring many european workers to work in Brazil, instead. Even the slaves that fought in the army at the war against uruguai, because the government promised them freedom and land if they did tha, were left without anything. So people started building illegaly over the hills, and this ketpt happening over and over again, and keeps happening today. So favelas are places built illegaly, often invading protected forest areas, and because they are illegal they have no proper water/sewage/electricty instalations... Nowadays people that live in those areas also have to deal with drug dealers or illegal militia (local ex-military/police people that decied to "protect"their homes from drug dealer/traffic themselves, and ended up being as corrupt and worngdoing as the first. they are basically mafia). People often have to pay extra money for either the drug traffickers of militia in order to be able to stay in their homes... many times they are put outside and need to run if they want to live. Plus you have the weekly comfront between the 3 groups: drug traffickers, militia and official police, that start gun fights in the area to control the regions ( never ever trust a police man in Brazil as they are as corrupt as the militia and drug traffickers, and many times have a double live as one of these other groups)
@lupina virgo Ok so, first when she says "to emulate", I believe she means that in the mid to late 1800's/early 1900's Brazil as a State tried to "white" our people, culture and life style. And in that matter, I agree with her, since as a colonized country we are, unffortunately, always trying to get as close as posible to our colonizers (as sad as it is, that's just as it is, it would be a lie to say otherwise). Second, the europeans didn't "developed" Brazil or any other American contries, it's really stupid to say so. The American coninent had beautifully well-developed native societies and cities before the europeans came (ex.: The Mayas, Aztecs, Incas, Guarani, among many, many others). Three, what Gabi Vallu says is not a hypothesis, as you suggest, since Rio did suffer a cleasing eugenic process: "The Passos Reform also [...] represents the first example of Statal Intervetion on the Urban, reorganizing economic and ideological ideas that were no longer conssistent with the presencr of poor (black) people in the most valued part of the city (this was late 1800's, right after the abolishment of slavery). "said Maurício de A. Abreu, a Brazilian geographer. This is History, there's no way to erase it. And last but not least, the same thing didn't happened to other brazilian cities simply because they went throught different processes as Rio. Rio de Janeiro was, at that time, the Capital of Brazil, so of course the "cleasing" process was more harsh. (Just to clarefy, I am brazilian.)
I moved to singapore last week and this video just increased the homesickness of my city, rio de janeiro, the video is very good congratulations for the content and now I feel like crying so much hahahaha

Beautiful adventure, lucky you got that in before things got crazy. Obviously by some of the conversations, the virus was a concern. I heard the time to really experience Rio is during Carnival time but of course, it may be some time before Carnival is celebrated the way it has been in the past. FYI, the show of affection Jimmy showed in the Safari Jeep was priceless.

I’m Brazilian, living out of my country and this video made me feel so emotional! I love discovering places and new cultures, but it’s so nice to see our culture being discovered too. Ps: I’m from south of Brazil but Rio is one of my favourite places on earth! ❤️
Anderson Brixner Que telegrafada, hein?
A great city Rio
Jimmy........ Bucket List dude!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was one to check off for sure!
ok. to clarify. people started building over the hills because before that poor people used to live in crammed european style houses (cortiços) in the downtown area of the city, but the governants and elite society at the time wanted to emulate the european lifestyle , especially Parisian lifestyle.
Ninguém quer saber disso, deixa os turistas se divertirem!!
Família Bolsonaro Miliciana do RJ
Alguns veteranos da guerra do Paraguai também formaram algumas favelas.

OMG you guys are crazy. I was expecting more video after you landed so we could hear your thoughts on the hang gliding.
Aww sorry!!
Fantastic
Beautiful adventure, lucky you got that in before things got crazy. Obviously by some of the conversations, the virus was a concern. I heard the time to really experience Rio is during Carnival time but of course, it may be some time before Carnival is celebrated the way it has been in the past. FYI, the show of affection Jimmy showed in the Safari Jeep was priceless.
They said that was the main thing that started the spread in Brazil!
