The fact that building a thriving economy is hard, is not a knock or slight on Tropico but rather, an insight into how hard it really is to build a functioning economy. Many countries are unable to build stable economies so it is really not that easy. I think the game is trying to demonstrate this fact to the player and it does a good job of that.
Tropico 6 economy is actually cake. Just remember the rule of 4/2/1. 4 Resource sources, 2 factory preparation, 1 final factory. A good example is to make four logging camps and then two lumber mills. Then finally one ship yard. So if you are working with a factory that handles raw resources then you need 2/1. Two gold mines and one jewelry factory. Most all of your export should NOT be raw resources. Factory resources like Rum, Cigars, plastic. Not sugar, tobacco, or oil. Be sure you have several docks well paid and have your teamsters on loose load work mode. If you do not do this you will be exporting all of your precious resources intended for factory processing. If you ever see the low resource or resource needs to be picked up icon above a building you have a big problem that will only get worse. This is caused by too few teamsters or teamsters that can not move around efficiently. Lastly, strengthen and balance all foreign relations. Ignore the advice in this video as it is completely possible to keep them all maxed out at 100 and then you can take advantage of the +20% export prices. Try to buy out all of the licenses and make the largest bulk trade deals. Then you have to maintain them or you will have a twenty percent decrease in revenue. You will want to sell off the positions of power to the broker within your cabinet/ministry. Also set several of your banks to slush fund work mode. You should now have about six hundred dollars per month s$. You can use this money to buy convincing talk from the broker menu and keep all parties "including the silly hippies" happy. I stay between 90 to 100 percent approval on easy approval setting without any struggle. I keep three or four convincing talks ready at all times and just shut down their ridiculous ideas and they thank me for it. The only one I ever suffer with is the environmentalist but you can do the dirty then appease them by placing many waste treatment facilities after your industrial expansion. ;)

I think Tropico is a fantastic economics and politics sim that really captures well the difficulty of appeasing all the conflicting requirements of building an empire. I would go as far to say it should be included in secondary school sylabus - it is that good an education tool when trying to explain or teach somebody how a country or economy works.
After all the confusing mixed opinions I've heard about this game, this video is what finally convinced me to Wishlist it. Your points were very genuine and explained very well. Knowing myself, I think I'd enjoy the good parts you mentioned more than I'd be troubled by the negatives.
Not sure how adversarial you and Matthew *actually* are, but regardless, it makes for quite a fun vibe and some good jokes. Long live this RPS video team! :)
They need to tone down the frequency of faction demands and how many can be made at once. Also, something is buggy in public opinion especially if you have undecided voters. Where it the option to send the army and beat some sense into them when your city is stable and they should have no reason to complain?
Great fun commentary you have here. Love the sarcasm❤️🌶❤️ Personally, I’d love to watch you play in sandbox just to see how you’d solve many of the little bothersome stuff that comes up through the different times. Keep up the good work.
I never thought of "rescue: educated" as kidnapping... I thought they rescued them while brushing the idiots off the side like barnacles when they try to climb aboard
I wonder how many viewers got the Private Eye joke? As a Brit (and fellow West Country-dweller who most certainly understands Stonehenge frustrations: build the tunnel!), I appreciated it! Game looks good. I've played the death out of Cities: Skylines, Frostpunk and Banished now and it's either trying out the Tropico or Anno series next.
Why did you move near Salsbury if you didn't want to be near Stonehenge then thats the whole point of being there to keep visiting those rocks for the rest of your life!
Probably the worst thing about Tropico 6 is the massive lag issues. Playing on a 1080 Ti with a population of ~4k, I don't appreciate the stutter or freezes for seconds at a time. I've not seen this on any other game (although I don't play many).
Well the high population is dependent on your CPU, not your GPU. If you have a 1080 Ti and an old ass i5 you can play Counter Strike, but good luck with any calculation heavy game like a city builder or grand strategy.
Being a small island nation with strategic resources more or less always results in having very agressive neighbours communicating in a passive agressive way.
I still play trópico 4 I found the best build is oil tycoon, you have a slow start but by the fifth year you rake in millions. Once you have enough funds and oil refinares you have customs drop import prices add it up with lowered commodities prices or oil price drops. Hold products wait until low is over put customs to increase prices and use promote tropical products edict and you’ll have between 5 million to 20 million easily from your holds. This could take just a year between drop and rise.
Its a shame this game is so annoying with all the popups every 20 seconds, tried hard to like it, 4 was great, lets hope if they make a 7 it will be better =)
