QSC did such a great job with the KW181, this is why they sold for 10 years and people paid a premium. Fun fact - They used a Celestion FTR subwoofer with vented Ferrite magnet, spring push terminals, multi layer spider protected by a plastic riser, 4" voice coil for exceptional excursion and a weather treated cone which ensures for a long extended life.

Oh for sure no disrespect to, JBL but if I had to compare it to a JBL it would definitely be the VRX single 18” speaker 🔊 as far as size, weight and hit factor
It’s been a hell of a task find a guitar center that had the two subs the KS 118 and the KW 181. I believe this is a marketing strategy in order to promote and sell the ks 118’s. How in the world are you to decide when there is nothing to compare it when you go to these stores. This is just my opinion, another individual may feel different. And I messed around with both subs for at least 45 minutes to make sure I was hearing right. What I heard was that the ks 118 does have harder kick. In other words, if you’re playing a song and kick drums drop, the ks 118 is wicked, it’s definitely has more punch, but what I’m looking for that that super low bass frequency that you hear or feel in your chest, when a bass chord is plucked on an instrument and no matter how I positioned the subs, or played with the volume gains on the back of the subs, there was just something about the kw 181 that keep me feeling satisfied. The bass is low, the bass carries a little longer that the new ks 118. It felt like it was more round, while ks 118 felt more linear, almost like a stab or a jab. I personally like the extended low frequency bass of the kw 181 you feel the bass in your chest and not just the kick drum like you hear on the ks118. The ks 118 is beautiful and has non visible speaker grill and all but the Kw 181 can still stand the test of time. So for the dj’s out there I believe if you play a lot of dance music and perhaps house and techno go with the ks118 but if you play r and b, hip hop, reggae. You might do better with the kw 181. Just my opinion. I think if youre undecided go take a listen for yourself. Thanks
D. Corey I have to agree with you on that statement 100%. The new ks 118 does have more headroom range but that’s all. The KW 181 is grimy with his bass and has that growling bass that I love. Any top regardless of size will have a punchy low end... however if you want really deep bass, you need a physical subwoofer. You can handle a wedding of 150 people no problem in the dance floor with a pair of 152s
In my humble opinion the real difference is in the box, According tov QSc the 118 has more reinforcements which will result in a tighter bass where as the kw181 is a little bit boomier...i sold one of my 181’s and was thinking of selling the other to purchase the 118 but common sense is telling me why trade a 2020 vehicle for a 2021 and the only difference is new tires.
