I was at a club this past Thursday night and the sound was so amazing!!! Dance floor packed all night. The bass could be felt all throughout the entire club. I saw what appeared to be a small sub. I thought it was a 15 inch. I asked the DJ what sub was that. He told me it was the QSC KW 181. I was literally blown away at the sound. Tonight I went to another club where he was DJing. He brought the same setup and speakers. Again, the same thing. Packed dance floor all night and that 181 filled the entire club with tremendous bass. So I made up my mind. I'm about to pull the trigger on a 181 now. I'm a mobile DJ and the size vs the output of the 181 has me sold, BIG TIME.
QSC loses the weight advantage with the KS118. I ended up getting the Yamaha DXS18XLF (standard front loaded design like KS118) as I did the test and the Yamaha was a lot more musical and hit lower. The QSC went a little bit louder but I preferred the cleaner sound of the DXS. It also matches up better with my DZR tops.
Well i have used my kw181's since they were released. They have never clipped, i run them in deep mode and i never turn them past 12 oclock. I run them out of my booth on my denon mc7000 which i never go past 12 on the booth out master. They love that bass hitting them in the chest. Any way i am in Houston as well i stopped by guitar center on 59 southwest Freeway near highway 6 and heard the ks118 and man i think i will be getting a pair of them to go with my kw's. I think together i will be breaking some glass. i also have a pair of cp12's and they are good too. But i use k12's with my kw181's. Not k12.2 but the original K12, they are beast too. keep em dancing.
Hey i have a question. I stepped into qsc. And bought. The cp12. They are great when eq. Do u use any subs with them n if you do what do u par them with
@@donaldccannon1 I use my KW181 Subs. The new KS118 which replaces my KW181 are great too, I went to guitar center and listened to them. But you can still buy the KW181's.

I use the KW181's for live sound and I agree, I haven't found a pair of subs that can outperform the KW181's that are the same weight, price and are as reliable. The only subs that outperform the KW181's that also weigh less are much more expensive and passive!
I enjoyed the video and also use the kw181. This video is extremely late for the Kw181 that’s been out for yrs. now that they just released the ks118 this should be a comparison of the 2

Trust me when you've done a show at the end of the night even my 40lb speakers and everything else I bring to the show is heavy LOL

something everyone needs to take into consideration is the way i play music vs the way other people play music. I do not know about you guys but i play loud!!!! as loud as the gear will go before clipping. EV ETX-sounds great but limit early. By limit early i literally mean the word limit flashes on the dsp screen. No i have been told that the simple flash of limit on this speaker "tis but a warning" and it is okay to keep playing but this scares me personally. qsc 212c- i literally did a prom this year where i ran 2 181s and 2 212cs side by side by side and the 212 cs were limiting before the fans even spooled up on the 181s. so for you guys that said you demoed the 212c and the 181 and the 212c was louder, you clearly did not listen to those speakers at volume. You are simply wrong. The the 212c is for smaller crowds and musicians in small bars that need a little more bottom end for background music when they go on break or when the crowd at the restaurant gets a lil rowdy after 1 too many Pinot Noirs. IT IS NOT a competitor for the 181 when it comes to power at high volumes. rcf 705 asII- while i do believe this speaker is a good speaker i do not believe it is a direct competitor of the 181. in my experience with the J8 RCF's lower end gear clips easily and that 705 asII is lowered end for RCF. I have read reviews where the Sub 8003 (the bigger louder, slightly up market 18" version of the 705 asII) limits to early so i know the 705 asII clips before the 181 does. that being said, i think the 705 asII could be a great sub so a small wedding system if it is being run with a powerful 8", 10", or powered column array top like the Turbo sound ip300! jbl- i have 0 experience with jbl so i cannot speak to them. Look, some people think it is okay to DJ an 800+ person school event with 2 EV EKX 15 SUBS and 2 ev ekx 12 tops. For some people that is JUST FINE and nobody complained. That person clearly does not play music like i do as loud as i do. I play music with heavy vibrating bass at the point just before clip for 2-3 hours straight, and for that, i need a robust speaker that is not gonna run out of steam. Next video is on up lighting... Chinese made off brands vs Chinese made name brands!
Going off weight alone then yes, QSC wins. But the KS118 is practically as heavy, if not heavier than other 18" subs so I think in that regard its a lot harder to choose.
@@djegovic22 Yes, it can sound good, just put the k12.2 settings to play some punchy mid bass to help the woofer out. You really want at leas two subs for heavy bass music, but one will have to do.
you know i listened to this speaker once, i was not impressed though. the bass did not seem to go as deep as the qsc does. did not rumble enough. i would love to be able to do a side by side to see if the RBN could really keep up.
And if you really want performance versus weight and size, check out the Yamaha DXS15 - XLF. It’s only about 86 pounds, and it’s much smaller than the QSC KW 181. And for its size, it’s amazing.
Hey man! I’m looking for a sub that gives off smooth deep bass. I’m not a fan of the hard bass that a lot of speakers put out. Any advice on a good brand?
Excellent video Bro!! Just took hold of a K181 bottom to go with my QSC tops. The tops are great so I got the 181 for a nice round bass effect. Wow. And I appreciate your video from 2 years ago still being relevant now. This is a NYC co-sign 👁️🗨️👍🏿

Love the video and very good point! You are not CRAZY! They have better subs out there that you can use but them damn thangs be weighin like 100lbs or more!! Been looking at the KW181's for a hot minute for my mobile DJ set-up but I couldn't deal with the price! I'm like "DAMN, Is Anyone Sellin A Good Used One For At Least $900 or Less?" There's a actually a video where they battle the KW's vs. RCF's and I was very impressed with the RCF's! They are just as powerful but the KW's are just a lil deeper with the bass. i felt the same way about the 705 asII until i got to use the RCF J8s. The limit super quick and this made me wonder about the 705 asII. It made me wonder if DJ Libertad (hopefully i am spelling that correctly) actually had theRCFs set to neutral. It also made me wonder what the clip light was doing as it was supposedly keeping up with the qsc. Even if the speaker was set at neutral i am worried that clip light was not just blinking but it was on fire. Just my thoughts no way to know for sure.

Hey there I liked the video so thanks for that. But one thought on carrying that sub with one hand. I’ve pulled out handles directly out of a box by doing this and I’ve seen it happen to a couple others. Maybe it’s the weight of the speakers or. Maybe moisture got to them. Any way be careful. Need the bass to hit hard. One subwoofer or two for small budget. I have the Rane one what wires would I need??
What crossover do you use with the dxr12s? I just bought a yamaha dxs15xlf to use with my dxr12mkii. The dxs15xlf is smaller than the kw181 and weighs about the same. I hope it will do good for me! Might get a second one later if needed.
im in the market... looking to upgrade from the equipment i have now... harbinger passive subs... ($250 each when new) was looking at the bose f1 stuff... but when i went to GC i saw the kW was a bit bigger... but that wattage was mind bending...
There is one sub out there what is a 15 inch, but it acts like a 18 inch, but it’s made by JBL and it’s just smaller than that and more powerful than that and you say that speaker only weighs 80 well, the JBL sub. I’ll be listing here, very shortly, only weighs 50 and it’s just more powerful than this 18 here I have two of them and they don’t even need to be fully up put them up halfway done. You can hear it from the end of the hall plus the speakers what you have in this video might be older than the speakers what I’m talking about right now but who cares at least I have a speaker less and it’s more portable it’s not cheap but it’s hundred percent worth it
What other sub plays louder for their size? Jbl srx818sp Down to 29hz vs 35 on the qsc Audio architect capable ( search it up ) Lighter (only a bit) LOUDER SAME PRICE Powered by crown
you may actually be right about the JBL on those points except same price even before the 118 dropped the qsc was still at least 200.00 cheaper. i will agree though that on paper it seems to be a better speaker though!
@@formobiledjshouston848 Also remember that wattage doesn't always mean something is louder. For instance, the mid range PRX818XLF is 1500w but only 134db, while the higher end SRX818SP is 1000w and 135db, while also delivering cleaner sound, just as one example. Also a lot of high end touring brands like Meyer, d&b and L-acoustic. All state real specs, as opposed to the inflated specs QSC, EV and others state.
djlobb after some investigation and trying different subs i have a conclusion. The ks118 is just a bigger version of the kw181 and a flipped version (standing instead of laying to its side). Jbl srx subs are very good for their price but when you get to stuff like tapped horns, everything seems irrelevent. I just built a Xoc 1 Th18 (similar to the commercial th118 just a bit different) and loaded it with a b&c 18sw115. I powered it with a cheap Chinese amp that claims 1000 watts bridged but only sucks 600 watts so probably 550 watts max, and compared it to my srx828sp. The b&c can take triple the 550 max power but its already louder then the srx at full blast. Keep in mind the srx has a NASTY sound when clipping (i hate). What i can conclude is that if you have time. Just do it yourself. You may not get the branding, but you get ur money
dantonliam ... I have two etx 18’s love them sound great but the clip warning flashes fairly fast when being pushed I try to keep an eye on them as I’m djing to make sure it don’t stay a solid clip warning but I was told that is normal and to keep playing but the subs have never cut out on me so far so good on my second year with them!
LOL The K series tops are so overrated. The KS118 is a fantastic sub. QSC just need to introduce a new wooden top box to match. The plastic boxes aren't it. I do outdoor rock gigs. The K/K.2 series just don't cut it. I recently upgraded to a Yamaha DZR rig, and it blows the K series away. Easily.
ForMobileDJs Houston hello what are your thoughts on the RCF 8003 18 inch sub? I went to a retailer and stated hands down much better ! Hopefully u can do a gig log!
for the size weight and price, i would go with several other subs over the 8003. i have never heard them in person and i am not sold on there power on paper.
@@formobiledjshouston848 On paper is not an accurate representation. The VRX was measured in full space, not half space like the QSC, as it is designed to be hung as well as ground stacked. Side by side the VRX kills the QSC KW181. However it is more expensive as you say.
Dual 18” sub and it’s way larger . Not really a fair comparison , part of a comparison is how practical is it for the average person . Size alone makes it impractical
I had 1cerwin vega cva121 and 2 qsc 181 do not sound better then the 1 cerwin vega. It took 3 qsc to match the 1 cerwin vega. Im very unhappy with the qsc181

I just bought a yamaha dxs15xlf to use with my dxr12mkii. The dxs15xlf is smaller than the kw181 and weighs about the same. I hope it will do good for me! Might get a second one later if needed.
Nice review keep them coming bro!
im in the market... looking to upgrade from the equipment i have now... harbinger passive subs... ($250 each when new) was looking at the bose f1 stuff... but when i went to GC i saw the kW was a bit bigger... but that wattage was mind bending...
The Bose F1 subs are 1000w RMS same as the KW181. I have a pair of the Bose F1. They kick really hard and they are 26Kg!!!
What's the best subwoofer 18" active and a pair for £1200 max if gotta will save upto £3400
Great video. Thanks!
Thank you for this
There is one sub out there what is a 15 inch, but it acts like a 18 inch, but it’s made by JBL and it’s just smaller than that and more powerful than that and you say that speaker only weighs 80 well, the JBL sub. I’ll be listing here, very shortly, only weighs 50 and it’s just more powerful than this 18 here I have two of them and they don’t even need to be fully up put them up halfway done. You can hear it from the end of the hall plus the speakers what you have in this video might be older than the speakers what I’m talking about right now but who cares at least I have a speaker less and it’s more portable it’s not cheap but it’s hundred percent worth it
KW 181 is only the best . The KS118 is what i want i have been reading and researching it always. looking for the best price... QSC is only the best
just get two more qsc kw181 subs , just keep on rocking good vibes .
Ok so whats cheap and sounds better??
What other sub plays louder for their size?
Jbl srx818sp
Down to 29hz vs 35 on the qsc
Audio architect capable ( search it up )
Lighter (only a bit)
LOUDER
SAME PRICE
Powered by crown
you may actually be right about the JBL on those points except same price even before the 118 dropped the qsc was still at least 200.00 cheaper. i will agree though that on paper it seems to be a better speaker though!
@@formobiledjshouston848 👍
To me the JBL srx818sp sounds better than, ks118 and kw181 , the more subwoofers you have is always better.
i agree,i had the etx 18 and it clipped to easy, took it back and got 2 181's,way better
The313DETROITMAN I have 4 ETX and they have never clipped...
dantonliam ... I have two etx 18’s love them sound great but the clip warning flashes fairly fast when being pushed I try to keep an eye on them as I’m djing to make sure it don’t stay a solid clip warning but I was told that is normal and to keep playing but the subs have never cut out on me so far so good on my second year with them!
agree 1000% percent.
is real! qsc kw and k series are the best !
Easily.
Great info what is the price and RMS
My bad @DJ Brite Eyes! i slipped up on this one for sure!
ForMobileDJs Houston lol
The kw181 and ks118 who is better
Ks118 but jbl srx818sp will be way better
118 sounds better and is louder, but it is also heavier, bigger and more expensive!
Truest statement ever made...... djs that don’t mix are trash!!!!!!!! Screaming from the mountain top
Thoughts on the JBL prx 18 sub?
Exclusive HF I have JBL PRX tops but unfortunately the sub doesn’t perform and is much bigger... So I went with a QSC kw181 for my low end!
718 xlf or 818 xlf?
never heard them in person so i could not honestly compare them. sorry
ForMobileDJs Houston hello what are your thoughts on the RCF 8003 18 inch sub? I went to a retailer and stated hands down much better !
Hopefully u can do a gig log!
Facts 🔊
how much is this please
Thoughts on rcf 18 powered 8003 sub?
for the size weight and price, i would go with several other subs over the 8003. i have never heard them in person and i am not sold on there power on paper.
Rcf kills mostly every thing I have the art 715 700 watts rms nuts
JBL VRX918SP that might kill the sub
on paper, i am afraid not! also it is like 2000.00 new, so it is def out of the running!
@@formobiledjshouston848 On paper is not an accurate representation. The VRX was measured in full space, not half space like the QSC, as it is designed to be hung as well as ground stacked. Side by side the VRX kills the QSC KW181. However it is more expensive as you say.
JBL SRX828SP is a better sub shakes the earth
Dj Lurch Brickcitysoundsentertainment...... I agree ....so damn true
Dual 18” sub and it’s way larger . Not really a fair comparison , part of a comparison is how practical is it for the average person . Size alone makes it impractical
but what about the new ks118??
better speaker by far, but heavier and bigger as well!
@@formobiledjshouston848 that is very true
I had 1cerwin vega cva121 and 2 qsc 181 do not sound better then the 1 cerwin vega. It took 3 qsc to match the 1 cerwin vega. Im very unhappy with the qsc181
The Cerwin Vega is also EXTREMELY heavy.
#TeamQsc
I DONT CARE WHAT ANYBODY SAY, I REFUSED TO PAY THAT KIND OF MONEY FOR A SUBWOOFER.
B6 from d&b
Presonus ult 18 look it up 🔊🤙🏾
120V x 2.3A = .... 276W!...?
Id like it but its at 420....
Yorkville Parasource 15p is CLEANER, SMALLER and LOUDER than KW181.
Kd Morley .. I’m gone have to check on this I would love to hear them yorks
you may be right. i have never heard of the 15" yorkville sub. only the Ls801 and the new es18. i will have to research.
Meh....20 pounds and the ETX sounds way better...I’ll stick with the ETX
dantonliam ... Yes indeed I love my etx💯
@@hollywoodthedj1673 etx sounds better yes. and they should they are bigger, heavier and have been processed within an inch of there life so they are supposed to sound better. However they are heavier and bigger and more expensive.
ForMobileDJs Houston ... I agree they definitely have a lil weight to them I recently just started renting the small U-Haul trailer when I have a gig now because I was literally lifting the etx subs subs up to get them in the back of my Yukon every gig killing my back I had to stop I just couldn’t do it anymore it takes a lot out of my body I had to get smart but I so wish they were a little lighter lol
IT'S NOT EVEN IN THE SAME LEAGUE AS A SINGLE BASSBOSS 18"!
He is talking about the size. Not power.
passive sub is the best, those subs that you re raving about are for kids.
kuna D naaaaa you can keep ya crossovers and amp racks, to much for a mobile dj
Thiz guy is lame. Powered speakers are the way
i being in this sound thing form 1982 nuff said.
@@kunad2294 Mobile sound with ease of set up and breakdown. Looks good to!
@@djbeazy that is true .
Qsc kw is a complete piece of shit.
Waist of money. These speakers should have retailed for $999.99 and even then it would have been a bit pricey.
I'm curious why did you state the QSC kw are a piece of poo? I like to hear your side of your opinion. What do you suggest over the QSC kw?
@@emmanuelmeyermeyer1083 The subwoofers sound good at low volumes at medium to high volumes you can’t hear them anymore. I did many events with the speakers where it sounded like there wasn’t even subwoofers in the room. I had 1 cewing vega CVA121 that absolutely destroyed 2 qsc kw. I know own 2 qsc KS118 and they sound amazing
