Hey Kurt! I happened to stumble over your channel and it has been a huge relief for me.
I previously owned a 2000 Subaru Forester and fell in love with Subaru's distinct engineering. until it blew a head gasket.
I recently purchased a used 2014 Impreza Wagon just like yours, and have run into a couple of problems with it. (Long Crank, Stutters when accelerating, etc.)
Your channel has helped me feel a whole lot less stressed about it! Definitely going to subscribe!

Thanks for the video! I own a 2013 Impreza Limited and ran into a few of the things you mentioned. I replaced all four bearings at 120K Km, have had my key stick in the ignition a few times until I recently disconnected the key insert sensor (seems to have worked) and the fan speed resistor issue. That final issue actually is quoted at $3,800 from the Dealership (I got them to troubleshoot the issue)! They wanted to replace the entire electrical wiring system connected to the HVAC and replace the HVAC temp. control panel. I got a used HVAC temp control panel and a new blower motor fan switch from iwireusa. My mechanic charged me $100 labour and all in cost me $255 (to me, this should be under recall having seen the number of issues and not just Subaru, I've seen Mazda and Nissan have the same issue. Must be the parts Supplier)! My mechanic loves working on my car, easy access and designed well. Relatively inexpensive and readily available parts. No car is perfect and I'm happy and very content with my Subbie!

I've had oil consumption but it's not bad at all. The hatch release rubber is bad on mine too.

I have a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek. 86k miles and currently at the service center undergoing a complete engine teardown to determine a hard idle low power issue. Prior to this, I've had to carry oil with me at all times to top off oil prior to scheduled oil changes. Unfortunately, Subaru did not find any oil consumption issues with my car. I'm currently working with Subaru advocacy to determine the core issue. I'm praying they cover all repair cost out of warranty.
I truly wanted to like my Subaru, but it unfortunately has been one of the most expensive cars to maintain that I've ever owned. Couple this with the ongoing oil consumption issues and now the complete engine teardown, needless to say, I'm a bit skeptical about Subarus engineering.

hit the nail on the head with the wheel bearing and the long cranking.

I find the brake assembly, rotors calipers rust exposure it’s a problem,
it shows especially with five spoke wheels.....other alloys rather than steel should be used.

Another common issue is the fan selector on the HVAC controls goes bad, the knob locks up and cannot adjust fan speed. My 2012 Impreza has 77,000 miles. I have heard numerous complaints on this…😡

Hey ehm what's the service interval recommendation for the differential oil change ? I plan to buy a manual 2012 2.0i subie

    • @KurtofTrades
      @KurtofTrades  Рік тому +1

Diff Oil change isn’t recommended by Subaru unless there is an issue. They have it under the “inspect” section every 30k miles.

Not sure I think you can use the cross trek suspension though. Sometimes it gives alignment issues though

4:18 I wonder if they fixed this by the next gen. My 17 is going strong, and while I’m the second owner I don’t think they replaced it in the first 19K miles. I could be wrong.

    • @KurtofTrades

Mine only started getting gummy last summer so it’s takes like 5-6 years before it breaks down. Either way it’s a cheap part and super easy fix

@@KurtofTrades either way I suppose time will tell as I usually does! I've got a couple of years yet by the sounds of it. Although frequency of use I would imagine would contribute to a degree.

@@KurtofTrades I am fortunate to have missed that stage with my kids in this car. It was my old Tundra and my wife's RAV4 before then. And her Camry SE before that. They grow up quick. My youngest just celebrated her 3rd.

Please never anti seize lug nuts, it will make them spin on easier, them your regular torque is not what you torque it to and your lug nuts might snap off or get undone when you're driving. It's a safety hazard, please lug nuts ALWAYS dry.

I put the tiniest dab on them. And once I put it on I don’t add anymore. It’s been 8 years since I’ve done it and haven’t had any isssues.
I get what you mean though, especially if you aren’t in the salt belt.

I’m not sure I’ve ever even tried Bluetooth (aux cable or usb option nullified the need), but I’ve had connectivity issues with both iPhone and Android products. Although, I liked what Appel did over Android with this program.

I had three issues in the last four years: a back bearing went on a 77K, and HVAC resistor issues also happened last year. Now I am facing issues with the valve body, and I am waiting for the part.
