Thanks so much for this vid! This was the one that convinced me to do it and it really covers all the bases (2020 impreza) I've been coming back to this as a reference it's been immensely helpfuk.

Great video. I've changes many a filters in many of vehicles, but just bought my daughter an impreza. I always look for a quick video identifying the drain plug location before crawling under. Your video was really well done!

Hey thanks for the video man. It was really helpful. I have a 2012 Impreza and was concerned about draining the CVT fluid so this was a big help.

Thanks for the Video Kurt. I have a important tip for ya. Never Never use a Fram oil filter! they are NFG! And Don't use the blue original Subaru filter either. Use the Black filter the car originally came with. Dealerships and almost every parts supplier sell the Blue filter. Only EBAY sources the original Black filter and it comes from Japan! The part number is 15208AA160. It doesn't take but a week or 2 to receive it. They sell a 2 pack for around $18 USD and free ship. Research my comment and you will see. Lastly, get that fumoto valve! I have them on my 12 impreza and my volvo. They are great! You will never wear out your pan threads and create any mess.

I don’t drive too much so not too worried about the filter. But thanks for the tips!

I owned Acura/Honda vehicles before getting Impreza. I still have 3 Honda filters. I see that you were using 7317 filter which was also compatible with my previous vehicles. Did anyone use Honda's A02 filter on a modern Subaru?

0:33 - as an owner of a 2017 Impreza (2018+ Crosstrek) I can verify it is a 14mm drain plug.

I forgot the impreza and crosstrek didn’t have the facelift at the same year, thanks!

@@KurtofTrades sure thing man! Yeah the Impreza was the guinea pig for the new SGP (Subaru Global Platform) in 2017 and the Crosstrek got the SGP the following year if recall correctly.

Bought a 2018 impreza and just took it in for an oil change but they were unable to do it because they could not get the drain plug to unscrew so now what?????

    • @KurtofTrades

Someone must have stripped it over tightening it. You can get an oil extractor and take the oil out the top of the engine. They work good

Have you considered replacing the drain plug with a Fumoto valve?

I’ve heard a lot of good things about them from people who have them. I’ll look into it more for sure.

Do they stick down lower than the pan? I’m concerned as my car is pretty low as is don’t want to hit it on an ice chunk in the winter or something.

@@ferff27Usually Lucas additives are only used to mitigate issues. I used it on an old Prius that burned a lot of oil, but on a car that doesn’t burn oil there isn’t much of a reason to use it.
