    Went today there after Pyramids tour followed by tourist guide who shew us the place as a vital spot to visit to purchase authentic Papyrus paper. Prices are so high even though they mentionned they make you a deal of 50%. After this tour i came to watch by coincidence that the art is made by handmaker and sold to the shops of 50 or 30 egyptian pounds and of course they charged us 50 dollar for each art paper. We bought 2 small ones of 100 dollar plus a meduim seize of 84 dollar. I knew the price was so dear. The guide acted as we got good reduction but indeed we did not. Expect as a tourist that prices are multiplied several times than usual price. That is their way to earn money not only i such shops but through severals places and services. I found no regulations put to protect tourists from such scammed ways to purchase souvenirs or to get the benefit of their accomodation without increasing the prices. Where is honesty, trust and good behavior, it will attract more tourist to come and vice versa.

    I went there yesterday. It’s a good experience. The selection of pictures were not unlike a plethora of velvet Elvis’. And you won’t escape without purchasing something (that would be rude). So I picked up a small piece.

      Hey Kevin, I’m glad you went yesterday, and glad you had a good experience! It’s definitely not rude to not buy anything, even though to folks not from Egypt it feels that way. In Egyptian culture looking and not buying anything is very common. I hope you enjoy the papyrus you bought!

    Spent $35 USD for 2 small pieces here. It’s beautiful and love the art here but can’t help but feel ripped off 😭

      I always tell folks who are interested in shopping to bargain HARD-were you able to haggle a bit?

      @@EgyptAdventuresTravel yes, $35 was after I haggled! I tried to even more but he refused.

      @@brittyn I tell people you can always walk away if the price isn’t what you want to pay, but for a that shop, $35 for two pieces isn’t too bad!

      @@EgyptAdventuresTravel I went to Egypt thinking I wouldn’t buy souvenirs (I really don’t ever when I travel) other than a magnet and a cartouche and ended up buying way more 😂 there were too many cool things! I know $35 won’t break the bank but when I know it’s potentially cheaper elsewhere, I wish I got the “better deal” - you know?

    • @EgyptAdventuresTravel

      @@brittyn yes, that’s always the struggle with Egypt! It’s like “the grass is always greener” but with prices!
      At the end of the day, as long as you paid a price that you were willing to pay (and weren’t forced or coerced or guilted into it), then I personally think of any “extra” as going to help a local Egyptian person who could definitely use the money! And $35 isn’t too bad for two pieces; I often hear them start at double that price per piece! 😂

    How much should you pay for something like this?

    • @EgyptAdventuresTravel
      @EgyptAdventuresTravel  2 роки тому +2

      The presentation was free, and as for papyrus, I personally wouldn’t pay more than a couple hundred Egyptian pounds, but you’ll probably have to bargain hard to get a good price.

      You can buy papyrus off the street for 10-20 Egyptian Pounds, but it’s hard to know if it’s authentic.
