- What is Papyrus?
Papyrus is a strong, paper-like material used by Ancient Egyptians for writing and various other purposes, made from the Papyrus plant that grew in the River Nile.
How is it Made?
In today's lesson, watch a fascinating demonstration on the making of papyrus paper:
- Strips of the inner part of the Papyrus plant are cut.
- The strips are hammered to remove moisture, soaked in water to reduce sugar content, and become sticky.
- The strips are woven together horizontally and vertically.
- The woven strips are pressed together (the exact method used by Ancient Egyptians is still uncertain).
- Finally, the Papyrus is left to form papyrus paper.

For kids? As a 42 years old man I really enjoy this!
Haha! Love this! Cheers mate!
this is way more efficient than studying from books
Haha! Thanks a lot! Glad to have helped 👍🏻 Stay tuned 👌🏻
Thank you! This will teach my students about papyrus in a really fun way!
Amazing! Glad to hear that 😁
Fascinating. :)
I was watching an anime named ascendance of a bookworm. episode 3 she tries to make a type of Papyrus to have paper to write with , but gives up at the horizontal vertical layering process.
and now i am here. lol
My kids love your approach to teaching! They want more.
Amazing! I’m so glad to hear this! I’ll be sure to keep them coming!
WOWIE I FEEL SO INFORMED!!
Glad to hear it 👍

@@halo59445 ineed!
Your videos are so engaging for my 6th graders - excellent work!! Thank you!
Hey Matt! Really appreciate you saying that. Glad they were engaging for your students! Take care 👍
NOW I understand papyrus so much better. I thought they just ground up papyrus and squashed it like a thin hamburger.
I thought the same thing since it's paper. Damn I wanted to make my partner a hieroglyphic print for her birthday but I don't have nearly 3 weeks to make it
Excellent video. Thanks. I teach science to home-school 2 gradeschool grand children and was thinking of doing a class on the development of writing. You nailed it for me Brad. They will love this. Thanks again.
Hey Steve! Good on you mate. That's some devotion right there! That sounds like a really interesting lesson. As a student I loved to know how things came to be. It makes everything make more sense. Those kids are lucky to have you! I am honored to have been a small part of that lesson. Have a good one. Cheers.
When the rock appeared it made me laugh a lot😂😂😂😂
Haha glad to hear that 😂
This was great for my homeschool lesson thank you!!
Fantastic! Happy Learning.
Okay, I had to watch this for myself first, it is so COOL! The Rock had me 🤣🤣🤣 🇺🇸
Would you consider a video on mosaic art? I am learning it and later will teach my children.
Amazing! So glad you enjoyed it. Yes, I also found it so interesting to see how they made it.
Yeah for sure! I’ll get onto art videos eventually 😅 or better yet perhaps I could convince my friend who happens to be a talented art teacher to help me out. Thanks for the suggestion.
Nice Video!
Appreciate it 👍🏻
That was great Mr. Bradley! You're going to go far on UA-cam! Please remember me :)
Hey! Really appreciate the kind words. Thanks for taking the time. Hope you enjoyed it 👍
Thanks a lot for sharing. I will use it in class.
Nice one! Hope it went well

Hey Andrea! Thanks for the comment. Glad you liked it and yes. Certainly beats a giant rock 😂

Hey, man. Your video was pretty cool.
Really glad you liked it 😌
How did they write on it?
Nice video!
Thanks a lot! Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
Mr Bradley is a teacher in my school in grade 3
I sure am 😁
Um I recently saw the ancient ostrich egg 🥚 that had these images that the professor couldn't determine what they were. The Elephatine Island was the Nile and Reeds area...um the images actually looked like a ancient reed boat the other image had that papyrus weaving print patterns...I now believe it had instructions for the weaving patterns on it.
I got to watch this video at my school 😂
Amazing 🤩
This is our work, producing the oldest paper in history, which is a completely handmade papyrus paper from the papyrus plant. We make drawings and works of art on papyrus paper for the Egyptian civilization, but we suffer now a lot. I have a very large stock of blank papyrus paper of different sizes. I hope to die in this industry because this is our main business
Hi Moh,
I was absolutely fascinated by all of this. Thank you for sharing this information and ancient craft! It was amazing to experience and I am sure something you are proud to have retained in Egypt.
Hi, good video, Two Questions, 1. Why didn't the Papyrus stick to the cloth used in the press. 2. How strong is it, Does it tare easy?
1. If I had to guess I would say because the cloth does contain the same sticky substances contained in the papyrus. Perhaps it sticks a little bit ut is easy to peel off. Remember that the Cloth is also not woven to the papyrus like the strips are either.
2. No it is very strong and doesn't tear easily...but it's not invisible. You could still tear with your hands if you really tried.
Hi I love your videos. I’m audriya
Audriya! One of my favourite students! How are you? Thank you. I am very happy you like the videos 😁
Damn son... am gonna grow some
Give it a try
Amazing guy...really a fun learning ❤...but it had music which is allowed for muslims to listen...but anyhow thanks dear brother😊
No problem 😌
Shortly after the invention of papyrus came the invention of the expression, "Hey, it's not like it's written in stone!" And the realm of lawyers was now forever grateful. Loopholes soon to follow, stay tuned!
Really? That’s very interesting. You learn something new every day. Thanks for sharing that one 😄
@@MrBradleyLearningMadeFun I am just playing, but you never know!
You are really inspiring. I want so bad to make science videos like yours for my science channel, but I have not worked out how to get the time to do the lessons and the videos too. Editing good videos takes forever, as you well know.
@@MrBradleyLearningMadeFun If you get this in time, go to the Wall Street Journal Opinion Page (online) and scroll to near the bottom for the cartoon - Salt and Pepper. It's about the Pyramids and pretty funny. Hope you get to see it. You will get a laugh.
Oh haha! Silly me.
Well thank you. That means a lot. Yeah go for it. You are right it is a real challenge and one that I’ve certainly had to learn as I go along. It’s VERY time consuming but you could start off simple to begin with
I’ll check it out 👌🏻

Papyrus is undertale spaghetti 🍝
SANS! WAS I MADE LIKE THIS?
You're so welcome
It is not papyrus. It is babyrus. Babyrus the Baber and babyrus the blant. Because they don't have the letter p in their language. Lol I grew up with some Egyptians😭
Gotta love the Egyptians! Great people
Are we certain that Ancient Egyptians didnt use a P similar to modern Egyptians? How similar are the languages?
True true
They don't have the letter P in Arabic the language modern Egyptians speak today.
Ancient Egyptian had their own language(represented by copic today) which has the letter and sound P.....
You welcome......lol
@@Damianweiblerancient Egyptian is a completely different language to modern Egyptian(as modern Egyptians adopted Arabic in the middle ages and no longer spoke Egyptian)
Yeah I was tired of losing my notes due to accidental rubs upon my wax tablet
Sorry I didn't do my homework...my dog ate my tablet
