I've been breeding rats on a"hobby level" ( approx 400-500 per month), and will be turning it into a legit business soon. I like the points you made. I worked at a pet store for 7 years (non corporate), and you are absolutely correct about them ripping you off. The pet store gets raped on price from the wholesaler, and then they rape you even further on the price. There was NOTHING that we sold for less than a 250% mark up. Some things were approx. 800% markup. The store was a very successful store. Thanks for the food link my friend. As you know, that will be your biggest cost. I'll be honest, when I saw you're a kid, I thought "here we go again";however, your doing it right. Keep it up. *thumbs up*
Hey man, i been watching a lot of your videos. Great, you know your stuff, great job. I do have a tip for you. STOP using that much food!!!. Your wasting it and you dont know. They will chew it just to have something to chew. When its gets small it falls through and a lot of time gets soiled and thrown out when you clean. This is what i do. I make my own hoppers. Use 2 cat food cans. Crimp the sharp edges down. Then roll 1/2 inch hardware mesh in tub shape. Cap ends with cans and your set
Wow! I came across your video for tips on breeding mice, then checked out your channel and some of your later videos. Its almost as if you're a completely different person!
Yes I agree, everything is food for something else. But rats I find cuter. Plus, they don't smell if you clean them out as often as needed to keep the smell down. But I understand that rats are food along with everything else.
I hate it when people breed rats to feed to their snakes. I know, a snake is also an animal, but I personally wouldn't be able to bring myself to feed such a cute animal to a snake. My opinion though.
Than add wire to it and hang long ways in tubs. The wire will go up over the edge of the tub. It will not effect the motion when pulling out your tub. Just use a smaller gauge wire. The thick wire gets hung up sometimes. Good luck. I also make hoppers out of wood. Cut some cheap 1" pine up to 3.5"x2. Wrap 1/2 mesh around and staple as you go. Bend top over and do not staple. The hanging wire will close your lid. If you want to see pics email me at rusher75 at yahoooooo. Ill help you out.
Can you watch my video and tell me what I'm doing wrong there not dead but I want to know how long does it take for them to breed and how big or old they need to be to have babies. Or how long do they have to be together to get babies
if your getting filled up with rodent why dont you kill them and freeze them for your hatchling royals becuase if you start your baby royals off on live it may be a problem to sell them on to poeple becuase they might not want to feed live (If you understand what i mean).
I know this is a old video but the link to pet store does. It work . Do you still use this company for rat food ? I am looking for a place to buy rat food
dang it collin i want to be breeding like that, but i dont know what im doin wrong, u should make a vid about breeding and where u put what rats when breeding
Are you implying his rats are not taken care of? I have seen rats in way worse conditions. ClassyHerps is one of the best examples imo on how reptile keepers should breed and keep there rodents. He has also stated in many videos how much he actually likes his rats.
farrah pratt haha so i did. My apologies. I get annoyed at all the people that come on to videos like this just to put the uploader down even though he isn't doing anything wrong. Sorry again lol
Everything is food for something else. I find snakes way more cute than rodents. They smell far less and are much easier to take care of. Just my experience with having taken care of both.
I have heard from many people that built rodent racks for there mice that 1/2 inch mesh is too big and mice will get out, especially young mice, they are tend to jump high and grab the mesh, then just squeeze themselves through
yer bro pet shop guys rip u off SO much... for my snake i was using red desert sand. at the petstore a 5kilo bag (im in australia so yer if u wanna convert from u being in canada to australia u canh hehe) but yer 5 kilo bag for 20 australian dollars. i went to bunnings and got a bog of 50kilo's for 6 dollars haha
Newspaper doesn't help with the smell as much as pine does. Pine will also last longer than newspaper at soaking up the urine. Also rodent lab food costs the same for me to get as dog food. But some people still use dog food with no problems. As long as it is high in protein
Great video! What was that site you mentioned for the mouse food? Also i think I'm missing something, why is their food pellets NOT IN the bin with the mice & is instead just openly laying on top? Doesn't that attract pests? (Roaches/fly's)
Thanks for the tips
dude awesome!!! l have to check around the local farm stores around!
THANK U
Looking Good that site was sweet when shipping was so cheap but then hey caught on lol
Great video as usual! :p

for those that havent done any digging around you can also get native earth rodent diet at petfooddirect
You should install a sink in there so you can have easy water to get to fill up water bottles and the new watering system you are getting.
if you are upgrading your watering system you should give me your old water bottles lol :)

I love the way he treats his rats. I have a mouse named Sugar. She Is a breeder mouse. I treat her the same way that he treats his rats!
I think you read my comment wrong.

21 to 25 days for a rat. Not sure for mice.
How often do you have to clean the rodent enclosures???
for the mice racks you can use the big concrete tubs with the 1/2 inch mesh with no issues for the mice?
I have heard from many people that built rodent racks for there mice that 1/2 inch mesh is too big and mice will get out, especially young mice, they are tend to jump high and grab the mesh, then just squeeze themselves through
