  • We often try to just suddenly choose or decide to love ourselves.
    This often happens in moments when we're struggling or feeling down. Maybe we've failed at something and feel self-hatred and are trying to be self-compassionate. What we really mean is that we want our experience to be different. This is innocent and understandable. But it's not self love!
    And it doesn't really work very well. Because we're rejecting a part of ourselves (e.g. our sensation of self-hatred) in the name of self-love. It's a contradiction.
    Instead, we must learn to acknowledge and feel all the parts of ourselves, including the hatred and the shame.
    As we integrate these rejected parts, a spontaneous, natural self-love starts to arise that isn't a choice, a doing or a trying.

    Accepting yourself is indeed the key! Like you said, we should not "act" on everything but accepting it will allow us to understand and potentially change for the better!
