Dear Mrs. Hale, You are one of the greatest abstract painters, if not the greatest at present time. Such a beauty - all of your opere d’arte. A lot of greetings and best, best wishes to You from Belgrade, Serbia (southest Europe)😍🍀🤗
I love you're paintings. I'm a new artist...well I've always been creative but I'm new to putting paint on canvas. I would love to know what you use for inspiration and if you have an "end" vision before you start or if it just comes.
Thanks, Beth, for your comment and for watching. I start with a concept and palette in mind that often changes as I'm working. I take a lot of photos and those help with a place to start.
''Yea that would be a hard job and I get you there . well Karen all I got to say is your a president at what you do, I've been at this for 34 years and Abstract is my main game & I love it ! and I know it well, and you my kind friend are one of the best I have ever seen. it takes ones breath away to see you paint, keep putting them out momma! we cant get enough! Sin-cerely and truly in your corner Artist Mark A. Foltz*
Thanks for the comment, April. I can't think, talk, and work all at the same time so that's why you don't hear me talking. My work is done instinctively so I don't analyze what or why I'm doing something. My videos are meant to be a glimpse into my process and not a tutorial but I have many people tell me they find them helpful.
I I’ve to see your work , looks so easy but in reality not. I am very impress, I follow you all the time and try to do the same thing on my painting , but still not close .!!could you tell me if you mix your colors with any medium Like glaze. ? Thanks Karen
Creating beautiful pieces seems effortless for you! Love this! Just curious, did you paint this in one nonstop session or did you take breaks for some areas to dry?
Hi Karen, thanks for sharing. May I ask how you choose your colours beforehand? These are lovely and do you set them all out on the palette at the beginning or just choose and add colours as you go? Also with the water, I read everywhere not to use water but a flow aid to avoid losing pigment and colour. Do you find that to be a problem at all? I know when I add water to my paintings the colours become really transparent. Your work is fab!
Thanks for the comment, Vicki. That's a question I really can't answer. I set up most of the colors I generally use and go from there. They don't always get used. My work is mostly instinctive and spontaneous so I let it take me where ever it wants to go. I don't have a problem with water. I don't use water when mixing on the palette but do on the canvas. Since there are 10+ layers of paint, I let each dry then go on to the next. In some cases, I want transparency.
Karen, I adore all your. Work and techniques, but I have a great deal of problems with the acrylics drying before I can blend. I live in the tropics and it’s in the 80’s everyday. I have used retarder but I like to paint on large scale canvases and this doesn’t do the job, I spray water as you do, but somehow I think I am missing something to make my life easier. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance
I seem to be having difficulty in replying so will try again. So sorry to hear of your difficulties. That must be very frustrating. Is an air conditioner out of the question? Working in layers might help. I know Sennelier is slower drying. I'm not much help, I'm afraid. I wish you good luck.
Karen Hale Paintings thanks Karen. I try not to use a/c. And also assumed it would dry the paint all the quicker...maybe not. Thanks anyways for the information. Love your work
Your work is amazing, but can you do more of a tutorial-style video? Everything is in fast-forward & while we can 'see' what you're doing, we still don't really 'know' because there's no dialogue to accompany what you're doing on canvas. It would really help a lot in understanding the process, etc... Thanks!
Thank you for watching and for your comment. I'm sorry you are disappointed and find them lacking. My videos are meant to be a glimpse into my process and not intended to be a tutorial although I have many people tell me they find them useful. I can't seem to work, think, talk and be entertaining all at the same time. My work is instinctual so I have no idea how to teach that. I use the double time in order to get as much content in within a reasonable amount of time. The average view is 2 minutes long so I am way over that. You can slow them down by clicking on the cog/wheel at the lower right of the video where you can adjust the speed and sound. I hope you will continue to watch and find something that is valuable to you.
@@karenhalepaintings I'm not disappointed at all... More curious & interested than anything. I mentioned it because I see a lot of artists who make their videos that way & it really helps those of us like myself, whose working to hone our skills. Just didn't know if it was something you did or not.

Thanks for watching and you're right, it's not as easy as it looks. I rarely use a medium, it's mostly water.

Thanks for the comment and for watching. I don't work nonstop because I let the layers dry but will work on other paintings while that's happening.
Fabulous work Karen. You are so inspiring. Can you tell me what the green tool that you use for blending is please?
Thanks for the comment, Bernie. I don't remember where I got that tool but recently have found things similar at: www.squeezepress.com

I live in an area that gets pretty hot in the summer, mid to high 90"s and use AC all the time. I don't find there is a problem. Thanks for watching.

Amazing can you be my teacher? What kind of acrylics do you use?
Thanks for watching. The videos are as close as I come to teaching. There is a list of some of the paint that I like in the "show more" section.

If I use water my canvas warps. How do you stop that from happening?
You may need to upgrade your canvas and those that have a heavier stretcher bars.
@@karenhalepaintings any suggestions? Fredericks?
