They don't use "cheaper pigment", but less of the same pigment and more binder, you can visit the factory it's amazing to see!

    • @iritlandgraf
      @iritlandgraf  4 роки тому +7

Lol 'cheaper pigment' is not an insult, it's a fact that some pigments are just cheaper... The range is based entirely on cheaper pigments to keep it affordable, no cobalts and such. I can imagine the factory is super interesting! As for the formula, I can imagine they would use more binder than Rembrandt, and still the paint performs wonderfully, just as well as most of my artist grade paints.

Hi Irit great video girl,, my staples colors are the same as yours too, I can't live without my turquoises and violets (cobalts) I always buy open stock but this looks like a nice little set for someone starting out and wants to branch out. Its the only student line I recommend because of quality and affordability. You did a good job of showing off the color possibilities. I always enjoy your view on colors and hope you have a great weekend! Cheers from Canada xoxo

They sell the same set with 15 half pans in it! As also they sell empty sets, that you can choose exactly the colours you want in it which is SUPER awesome!! I got the 15 set to see if I like them and I did! So, I got 10 extra colors to build a landscape palette for my needs!!

I advise getting the tubes. More for your money. Fill your own pans. You can also use tube paint to make your own custom mixes. I advise letting it dry a while from the tube before using as they were oddly hard to use fresh from the tube but fine once dried down. I have most of these colours as tubes. I love the Van Gough line and consider them full artist grade personally. The buff titanium is good for warm pastel mixes if you like opacity. I love watercolour with gouache. I use the buff titanium for custom dupe mixes of some other brands paints. You can also invest in the oxide black to make your own custom ‘dusk’ mixes.

I agree about the space in the palette....what a waste!.Could have organized it with 15 easily.could be an 18 with some adjustments....like the lid.

Looks like a nice landscape set, also would like an earth red instead of the Quin Rose or the Sepia. The Davy's Grey is unusually green, but is a perfect color for landscape painting. Thanks for the review!

I picked up some tubes when I was in Bali, much prefer them to Cotman, also easier to use than some WN professional colours when added to pans! I also recently got a regular 12 pan set that I like :D It's so compact and cute lol. I'd really like to try Rembrandt to compare with as well.

Thanks for commenting Patricia! In Europe the prima sets are sometimes tricky to find, and the price varies, but one thing I will say is better, are the metal tins they come in. Much prefer them to plastic!

youtube recommended me this video after i watched your "Dusty Hazy Summer Watercolor palette". i just love the way you swatch, it's so beautiful to watch the colours mix! :D would the turquoise green in this VG palette be the same as the LUKAS cobalt teal/turquoise in your current summer palette? or would this van gogh one be too green/ too blue?

I like to buy split primary colors, and maybe a sap green as a convenience color. I use primarily M. Graham & DS colors because they are easy for me to get them, and they are great. I'm must admit, I like mostly single pigment paints. Although, like I said, I enjoy sap green...a few multi-pigment colors for convenience. Qor watercolors are fun too, but I only have a set of six. I enjoyed your video, it was fun watching you swatch your birthday gift! 😗💨🎂🎈

I really enjoy Van Gogh paints as well. I have the whole collection of this little boxes including the metallics and the loose flowers box (which is pink outside).
But I have to agree that they should added 3 more pans or the space at least.
In Germany, you find the Van Gogh Sets along with their Rembrandt Special Editions (so far I have the granulating and the metallic colors) at Kreativ.de / Gerstaecker.

You're darn right about the palettes being so wasteful with the space in them. I love them for being so small, but that really seems to be rather annoying :/ I got this set in addition to the basic one (though mine has 12 pans not 15, they started that after I got mine) and the metallic/interference colour ones. I know they're being student grade and probably not as lightfast, but for what I'm doing with them that's more than enough ^^'. Them being vegan (as I'm vegetarian) definitely is another reason to love them, if there's an option that is free of animal - cruelty, I'd definitely go with that :)

  • @benjones1458

Ivory black is the black colour that is made using animal bones, hence the term 'ivory'. Great video BTW, the colours are quite stunning. I recently created a palette for myself which has my favourite colours in. Thank for the video, they're always really insightful!! :)

If you removed the primaries the rest definitely are muted. It is a nice choice. I had to choose between this and a szmal set, and the szmal won me over. I got the Adam Papke version, and added half a dozen extras. This one is still interesting though too.

I love my Aquarius watercolors, they are fantastic and such good value. For me the advantage of Van Gogh, besides the price and quality, is that I can easily find them locally, and also in tubes :) Thanks for watching Lindy!

Schmincke: when German words (inc. names) have a final E, the E is always neutralised and muted (NEVER open as stressed you make it.) Thus: SHMINkuh is more how we pronounce this name. Learn German- it's superfun. No, it really is!

Even if they didn't put 3 more places for or colors in ,they could have recessed the logo so that it became another well for washes/ mixing....get real van Gogh..p.s. don't like this paint at all and Rembrandt is one of my least favorite " artist" paint. But yes I have bought used and finally gave to grandson....both of them. Just hope it doesn't turn him off from watercolor.

Haha wow Marjorie, you have strong opinions! Well I totally get it, each artist has different preferences. Personally I think this is one of the best affordable options in Europe, but obviously not everyone would agree. Happy holidays!
