A Van Gogh palette inpired by Van Gogh... why is it special? [Review]

- That orange Van Gogh palette felt so special as it was inspired by Van Gogh's art and this made me so curious. So in this review I ask myself, what is special about it and whether it's a good palette indeed.

I agree with you they are missing a trick not having the 3 extra spaces... if they didn't fill them I know people would buy 3 pan to fill. Thus generating more income for the company and letting people add there favourites 😍 beautiful bird.
Oh indeed, since only the Royal Talens pans fit in the space there too. And they have that 12+3 version in white, why not do all with the same layout and leave 3 free for the others? In the other comments people already mentioned, which colours they would add and it's for sure a missed opportunity there.

That's a very interesting colour selection for a palette. Something different from the norm and makes some great mixes. Love the budgie ❤️
I totally agree and although I first was skeptical, I love the mixes. It's very close to a palette that I would put together for myself, so it worked out very well for me. :)
Hi! UA-cam *finally* sent me a notification for your channel again. OMG, I just checked now what you have posted, and I am ging to have to catch up with so many of your videos!
As for this palette, I have been kind of eyeing it. I am downright offended about them not having included an Ultramarine though. Other than that, the color selection is amazing, I have never seen another ready made palette that is so totally suited to my own use of colors. If I'm honest with myself I know that I need more watercolors like a hole in the head at this point, so I try to refrain from buying it. I did entertain the idea of buying it and upgrading it though, take out the Van Gogh colors and use the nice orange case and replace all the colors with their counterparts from the Rembrandt line. Create my own luxury version so to say. Let's see if my drive to hoard art supplies will get the better of my again in the near future.

What you said about Ultramarine, I had this thought too before I started painting with this palette. Van Gogh did use Ultramarine in his watercolour sketches, but actually this palette works out so well somehow, that I didn't miss it even for a bit. I like the idea replacing the Van Gogh ones with Rembrandt though and make it a deluxe palette.
If I'm being honest... I'm still reviewing supplies I purchased last year. So definitely not buying lots of them myself right now. Only paper as it gets used up or wood panels I paint on or very special stuff like the new gouache colours from Schmincke, because I just had to have the Cobalt Turquoise. :D Other than that I feel like everything is so expensive now and most of us have a huge hoard of supplies, that it's not necessary to buy it all. Also I think it's exactly why reviews are important, because I oftentimes think then "oh maybe I let that one go" and am less tempted to buy everything to test myself.

Your mixing chart does make this palette look better to me, the colour selection just really didn't grab me. Still not something that'd work for me, as I need a true magenta and cyan for my art.
Tha brush thing... I have an old pallette and I know someone who has a new one. My brush is sturdy and still in good shape , their brush is bendy in the plastic with white stress lines. Definitely a quality drop thing.
Van Gogh paints in general to me seem like great beginners paints, and low pressure still nice paints for others. I use mine frequently despite my collection of roman Szmal, some schmincke horadam, rosa gallery, and others.
Yeah, the colour selection is not a standard one, but I feel like it's versatile enough to be able to create. But of course it must fit the art style and needs of the artist. A true Magenta and Cyan, honestly, if Van Gogh had them, he would have probably loved those colours.
That's great to hear, that the old brushes are better. So far I only had problematic ones with the Van Gogh sets I had (I have 2 other sets). The bristles are stiff and don't hold any water and the plastic lever thing at the end bends and broke off. It's just not an enjoyable brush for me.
I agree though, that I like Van Gogh as beginner paints. I use them too while I have the other professional brands too n my collection. Some paints are just simple and I like that. Honestly, in this one I enjoyed the colour selection a lot and even tried painting modern scenes in Van Gogh's style. The colours also are close to my palette of choice tbh. Very similar to my limited gouache palette too.

I got the 12+3 as my first set. I got 16 more colors since then!! I use white a lot, to create a lighter colors, is that wrong use of watercolors?
I do not believe in wrong use of watercolors as long as you have fun creating and get the results you want. ❤️
